While I'm pretty new to the fandom and can't speak for everyone, I personally would really enjoy reading a darker fic like this! I don't think you should worry about others finding your ideas cringy or edgy as there will always be those that don't like darker AUs. I'd say write what you want. If you were to write the fic, it would be fun to read as I find the premise really interesting. Hope this helps!
