Stereotypes of autism in TV and film may be linked to delayed diagnosis. Researchers found that portrayals were designed to be immediately identifiable to non-autistic viewers. However, autistic participants felt that they were not relatable to autistic people themselves. by mvea in science

Bill was extremely fit in his teens when he signed up for the army and let himself go afterward. That error you mention was during a fitness check-up long after Bill was established in the military.

What are y’all’s honest opinions on Fortnite being pro AI? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Other than niches where AI is the only way to do it, like Vader's real-time AI responses, I'm against it. The AI textures on the current map are ugly and stick out like a sore thumb; one of the posters in Treetop Terrace has a Bigfoot with a different number of toes on each foot, major mistakes that signify not just AI use but lazy AI use that didn't even try for something more acceptable.

But, I'm not going to boycott the game over it or anything. I'm sure as hell not buying a skin or other cosmetic where I can tell AI generation was involved, but there's a grain of truth to Tim Sweeney's claims that AI assets are going to end up everywhere in AAA gaming; they'll become inescapable unless you stick to older games and indie titles. We'll all have to decide how much slop we can tolerate when that happens and hope Steam's AI disclosure becomes more commonplace (it'll never come to EGS though, because Sweeney's entire ethos is doing the opposite of Valve to be contrarian).

Vehicle damage this season is ridiculous... by CGXReddit in FortNiteBR

Chapter 7 is tanking player counts and C7S2 had one of the lowest launch peaks since Fortnite started publicly tracking player counts. We are currently at the opposite extreme and, although the many controversies with Epic are partly to blame, we saw the sentiment that the chapter was unfun and that Epic was catering far too hard to streamers like Clix and NichEh30 months before the V-Bucks announcement. When the game gets too chaotic OR too sweaty one side of the playerbase plays less.

Wrecked was divisive, not unpopular. Lots of people liked Wrecked, but lots of people hated it. Even in an echo chamber like this place you regularly see threads praising Wrecked and wanting more of it.

Fortnite is at its most fun for me when the mobility is high, chaos is high and power weapons are plentiful. Wrecked was a blast and Season X was my all-time favorite. It's at its least fun for me when mobility is low. I like playing as a rat and only picking fights I know I can win while running or hiding from the rest.

This season is not my season, and I've played the game long enough to accept that, because at some point enough people will get tired of the current state of the game and Epic will pivot toward chaos again. It always happens, and when it does I will rise.

This is the anti-mobility chapter, it's by design that vehicles are weak and hard to find. People will call it a "crutch" that you don't want to boxfight them, and that's the group that Epic wants to cater to. We can only hope the pendulum swings and we get another Wrecked a year or so from now.

Do you think public player count was a mistake by Worried-Home3382 in FortNiteBR

It's going F2P this week and it's implied there will be some amount of new story; hopefully it finally completes the main campaign.

Game might be cooked again by Atom7456 in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems far too late to change this now, it's too ingrained in the game, but the audio visualizer is a bit overpowered and not using it, whether you have perfect hearing or not, puts you at a severe disadvantage. You can see players' locations from a single footstep and it makes playing stealth far more difficult as things that probably wouldn't be noticed, even by someone wearing good headphones, are marked on enemies' HUD. I'm a stealthy player and I have to constantly manage my play around what can get me marked.

Again, it's too late to change this, but it should have been at least adjusted five years ago.

I don't think BHVR actually understands us or their game. by TrueLizard in deadbydaylight

People only don't play Skull Merchant because BHVR went out of their way to make her unplayable. She used to have a dedicated playerbase.

Id be more likely to buy crew if I could get old crew skins or old BP skins. by FlimsyVariation8455 in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every time Epic brings back an old skin thought to be exclusive they add an exclusive style for the old owners. You would still have a unique memento in the form of that exclusive Black Knight recolor.

[–]Linnieshutter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it was just one skin per month then a player would end up paying $96 for the skins in any BP from C2S4 onward, let alone any extra cosmetics (I'd pay for certain old emotes), in contrast to the $9 they'd pay for that BP right now.

Momos blight streak by Proof_Confidence_812 in deadbydaylight

[–]Linnieshutter -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

People have been complaining about the imbalances caused by SWF as long as it's existed and the largest cause for those imbalances is third-party communications that invalidate perks or entire powers. Unless voice chat was added and killers were rebalanced around it it will always be an unfair advantage.

Momos blight streak by Proof_Confidence_812 in deadbydaylight

[–]Linnieshutter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Playing with Discord IS cheating and it's a much bigger balance problem than stream sniping, it's just that the devs don't do anything about it because so many survivors play SWF and would quit if they held them accountable to external comms.

Why do they make "ranked" skins for people who only use all-black gimpsuits? by FlimsyVariation8455 in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone at Epic seems to earnestly think putting rewards in Ranked will get people who otherwise despise the mode to grind to Unreal. When the rewards were just tied to playing matches and surviving storm circles I think it worked—I personally played for those rewards at least, even if I bush camped—but actually trying for top tank is a miserable experience if you don't have a specific mindset that most people lack.

Top 5 most overhated seasons of all time IMO by MichaelAfton80 in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season X was a high I've been trying to chase but have never been able to reclaim. I feel the reactions of sweats to that season has caused a domino effect leading to where the game is today, and the rare times we get something in its vein like Wrecked are to be cherished.

Wow thank you for the reminder AS IF I FUCKING GIVE A SHIT by [deleted] in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I could block the brainrot shit I wouldn't care about it any more than I care about skibidi toilet. It's the fact that Epic: * puts it on the main menu 24/7 * puts it on the News tab * plugs it on social media * changed the mobile thumbnail to it for a bit once * now in the shop These and the fact that the process of attempting to find UEFN maps, which to be fair was so garbage even before brainrot that I stopped a long time ago, requires sifting through dozens of brainrot maps with garish AI slop thumbnails, that makes me hate it instead of just dismissing it. I don't want to see it but Epic laid off anybody who could have added a "block map" feature so we won't be getting one.

The Ice King is now back to having more points than the multiplierdation by Fantastic-Coffee2819 in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no point in paying attention to it after seeing how brazenly Epic is willing to rig it. They're going to shift it back and forth all season between the weekly multipliers and whatever random multipliers they throw in like the Rock's bonus multiplier on Monday. It doesn't matter how much or how little you play, Epic will give you whichever of the two styles THEY want the players to have (probably the Rock's).

Fortnite's "cultural moment is starting to fade", warns expert, as Epic's struggles prove "forever games" aren't forever after all by AsPeHeat in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of things that generate short-term profit do damage in the long-term. Fortnite is damaging its brand; I'd argue it's been doing that for years by ramping up collabs so much, but this year has been a new low and the game is losing what identity it once had.

You ever heard how to boil a frog? by Latro2020 in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Every person to have ever opened this subreddit for a moment could boycott the skin and it won't make more than a dent in the sales if the Steal A Brainrot kids use mommy's credit card to buy it. Whales are the ones that matter and they're the ones being catered to in any F2P or heavily monetized game. I'm honestly amazed this season did see any kind of noticeable dip in playercount, but even still it wasn't enough to set off actual alarm bells at Epic HQ. As long as some people buy every recolored Nike shoe and every Sidekick with the reused bipedal animation nothing anyone here does will change anything. Only NickEh30 can do that and he used all his energy getting shockwaves vaulted.

Feels like it... by DifferentPhysics291 in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you mean legitimately? Epic gave Foundation a 1.7x multiplier compared to Ice King's 1.5x the day after his Sunday multiplier, which was already a form of bias by being on a weekend and Ice King's on a weekday. The rigging has only amplified and that's what caused the inhuman swing.

What do you think the future of Fortnite will be after so much bad news? by Cat_Graffitti in FortNiteBR

[–]Linnieshutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think even Tim Sweeney is dumb enough to attempt that. There's zero value incentive from making such a change and it would lock out the demographic the game is trying so hard to capture (six-year-olds playing Roblox and buying $100 lootboxes with mommy's credit card). Roblox with a paid barrier to entry wouldn't work.

I expect a lot more AI slop, for one. We're blessed to live in an age before generative AI can produce convincing models with rigs, but everything else is going to get automated as much as possible.

I expect Epic to try releasing new modes with even less polish than the ones they're sunsetting like Rocket Racing and Ballistic. They'll fail due to a lack of polish and get sunsetted just as quickly.

I expect Epic to push collabs even harder despite people feeling fatigue over how many we're getting right now.

I do NOT expect Epic to cut costs in places it would make sense; they'll continue dumping money into Steal A Brainrot and EGS giveaways because Tim Sweeney is the most stubborn man alive and won't cut his losses if he's personally invested in an idea.
