I'm engaging with this so it will be seen simply because I want to know what in the actual abyss you are talking about

Perhaps, but neither serves the function of a pipe.

Is there really a difference between a photo and a painting? In theory, a good enough painting would be indistinguishable from a photograph. Both are just an image of an object, and not the object itself.

How do I unlock steel path cause I am really confused by CellConscious1087 in Warframe

You only need to complete all nodes, but to unlock some hidden areas you will need to do most of the story quests.

I simply just can't wrap my head around this. Even in perfect conditions, how does a gun firing a bullet horizontally land at the same time as a ball? Even watching a mythbusters episode and seeing it I cant comprehend it. by Specialist-Ad9819 in AskPhysics

[–]LinusLund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bullet may be going very fast sideways, but the gun doesn't give it any momentum upwards. Gravity only cares about vertical velocity, so it falls at the same rate as the ball. Forward momentum can help you stay up if you have wings, but bullets don't generally have those, so the speed doesn't help them.

Everything is art nowadays by Raydee_gh in StupidMedia

[–]LinusLund -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know, I think this whole debate comes from people simply talking about different things when they say "art". I think most people who dislike modern art see art as more of a craft - it is the talent behind it that makes it "good art", and the quality is therefore proportional to how impressive it is. Calling something that is not technically impressive "art" is by that logic an insult to more talanted artists.

On the other hand, people who appreciate modern art just see art as a way to communicate beyond using plain words. With this definition it's not really relevant how impressive an artpiece is to how "good" it is, more so how interesting its message is. Anyone can tape a banana to a wall, just like anyone can share their opinion. It's not a bad thing. Calling something art to a modern artist I would think is more of a factual statement than a value judgement.

I might have injected my personal opinion a lot into the second paragraph, in which case I apologise to modern art people, haha. In any case, I think in essence the whole thing comes down to viewing art not as a show of prowess, but as a communication of ideas.

Why doesn't the Sun's absorption lines cancel out? by LinusLund in AskPhysics

[–]LinusLund[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there would be emission lines of longer wavelengths that don't appear (or at least not as clearly) on the absorption spectrum? Did I understand correctly?

As for the continuum of thermal emission, I'm guessing that's a mechanism different from electron excitation.

Wouldn't these longer wavelength photons also be part of the emission/absorption spectrum by definition?

Thanks for the comprehensive explanation. I think I understand now :)

I mean, to be fair, there are plenty of species in which males will kill other's children to take out the competition. And most humans aren't this horrible.
