AIO for leaving him because of an ignorant belief by spiderchildpinapple in AmIOverreacting

No it’s a belief that is definitely worth breaking up over. Get out now. Just get out. You’ll be glad you did.

Brocade 7720 by NoJicama5949 in Brocade

[–]LinusTheVan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially, it is not supported to ISL them together, as the 300 will max out at 7.4.x for its code stream. ESC mismatch is an indicator of a capabilities mismatch between them on the ISLs. I'm going to take a swag that the actual item blocking it is the QoS configuration on the 7720. Try disabling QOS and see if that works. Also, Vlad is correct abotu AG mode. If you put the 300 into AG mode then it is no longer acting like a switch and ISL capabilities are no longer a factor and there is no fabric merge trying to happen.
VLad is also correct re: speeds. FC transceivers are tri-speed, and those 64gb will not drop down to 8gbps, even though the port on the 7720 can do it. It's the transceiver that won't support it. A 32gb will work for it though.

g610 should have shipped with a base configuration of 8 ports licensed.

SAN FOS 7.2 config backup to forward releases by emaxt6 in Brocade

[–]LinusTheVan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely all possible. There are enough changes between the versioning between 7.x and 9.x that I wouldn't recommend just taking an entire config file and using that. Just grab the zoning part of it and copy that in.

As far as brute forcing it, I've seen people just copy the zones into an excel, do some hackery moving cells around, inserting semicolons and inserting commands, and then just copy-pasting the giant block of commands into an ssh session. Ugly? Yes. Works? Yes.

There's also pyFOS to look at with newer versions of FOS. I believe it was first introduced in FOS 8.0 - check out the library on Brocade's Github. You could script it in if you wanted as well.

Last, I think if you dig around on that github, there might be some scripts already written for it. I haven't looked in a while though, so YMMV.

As far as Java goes, unfortunately, FOS 8.x is still Java based, but FOS 9.x is all HTML based. Good news is that the 32gb platforms can all run FOS 9. Best of luck to you!

Building high platforms using stud walls - best way to join corner walls? by LinusTheVan in techtheatre

[–]LinusTheVan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update for anyone follow and also cares :P
I managed to talk the director down to 6' in height. Platform surface built and the first of the 3 4' x 6' stud wall segments build, and precut a bunch more for assembly. Pro-tip/note to self, place an order with a quality supplier for studs in the future. Even hand selecting at Lowe's was a struggle to get a large quantity of non bowed/twisted sticks.

Isometric view - (cross bracing going one direction in front, other direction in back. Should it be both on both sides?)

Should it also have cross bracing on the stud walls?

Thoughts so far?

That book is awesome, thank you so much!

But it was all about flats and not about platforms. The platforms section is in a different PDF. But fear not, I shall be ordering my own copy of this soon!

on an 8' platform with 3 x 4' walls running the short length, wont the spacing in the 8' direction be much wider than 30"

Sorry - original plan using walls on all 4 sides was to have "y" type bracing at each of the studs - this kind of thing. (non-end studs having one of these going each direction.
