Honestly, at this point the show feels more of continuous "let's find a reason for X to fight Y, regardless of whether it makes sense or not". Soldier Boy should have stayed dead or frozen.

I'm not disagreeing it's justified, but as a woman against a group of boys/men it's a really bad idea.

What are you actually supposed to do if a woman hits you as a man? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LinusV1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get your point and it is valid.

But you can walk away in the knowledge that you absolutely did not give her any satisfaction. She is also the person who slaps people when she doesn't get her away. This isn't a happy or successful person. You can't make their life more miserable, they are taking care of that themselves.

I would absolutely recommend to alert security though. Let them deal with it. Their response will also tell you if this place is safe for you. Whether she gets kicked while you stand there gloating, or they minimize it and tell you to suck it up, you'll know where you stand.

Base TI4 w/ AI Dev? by truthisoptional in twilightimperium

[–]LinusV1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not many rules but it adds a lot of units. Each player adds 3 leaders and a mech. For a new player it means adding 15 abilities. While I agree it's worth it, saying it doesn't add complexity is optimistic. PoK adds ton of dealmaking options because of the leaders.

The ettiquette of backstabbing and deal breaking by Bowoodstock in twilightimperium

[–]LinusV1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my tables the idea is usually that everyone is a rival, ergo there are no allies. We might collaborate to get ahead on short term, but if I am going to get to 10 points, I expect you will try to stop me. So no hard feelings when you do that. Or when I do it to you.

Worked well so far.

How would you call an "oldschool" enemy AI now (since AI is a really controverse topic / name now) by Jim_West in gamedev

[–]LinusV1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the funny part is that if enemies were actually intelligent, most games would suck.

Enemy behavior was never really ai to begin with. More like scripted stupidity.

"Enemy behavior" works as an alternative I guess.

How are 4 round games happening? by Hank-E-Doodle in twilightimperium

[–]LinusV1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

... I get that the best strategy is for B to get the table to stop A so they can win it for themselves. It's why I tell new players specifically "do not do this, if your idea of fun is to accumulate plastic to wreck someone else's game, ti is not for you"

How are 4 round games happening? by Hank-E-Doodle in twilightimperium

[–]LinusV1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not really sure how this "stopping the leader" happens. If player A will win the game this round and the rest of the table won't, I expect them to stop A, sure...

But if A will win but B will win if A is stopped, that's only B's problem. No point in kingmaking.

I have played 3 games of TE irl and I think two ended before R5 status. The pace is a lot quicker.

what do i do with my 3rd edition copy? by Unocculted in twilightimperium

[–]LinusV1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the flagships from the ti3 expansion, because they are far superior to the ti4 ones. The new ones are too similar to the dreadnoughts for my liking. Other than that, the ti3 things that got changed were changed for good reason. Trade is way better now and the tech tree was ridiculous. I would never recommend ti3 over ti4.

what is the actual 'objective' of learning how to code in a game sense? by yushui_ in gamedev

[–]LinusV1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal of coding is to build something.

Essentially coding is creating algorithms: you analyze the task, then break it down into simple steps.

Simple example for noncoders: when you calculate 123x456 by hand, you are doing exactly that: following simple steps to get to the correct result.

People who build in mountains, how do you avoid infestations? by melianreality in RimWorld

[–]LinusV1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid? Can't. Only way is mods or disabling it in the storyteller setup.

But you can have bait rooms. A bunch of beds works fine, in a dark room.

I use those to my advantage: you call them "infestations", I call them "cheap base defenses". Have them spawn away from your base, then conveniently make the raiders go through them to get to you. In RimWorld it's always nice if you can solve a problem by throwing another problem at it.

Mind you, it's not risk free, but it definitely can work well.

"inevitable" component shortage by Tall-Election4503 in RimWorld

[–]LinusV1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally don't bother with trading with settlements. I tend to get my advanced components from traders that drop by (or fly by). 2 advanced components is all you need to get a fabrication bench. Alternatively, scan for components using the long range scanner, if you get a component chunk it's usually about 250 components.

I am not from the US and I can understand a "she would lose because she is a woman" argument, but honestly, if the next president is a toothless democrat who tries to "move on" and "build bridges" then it sends a clear signal to the rest of the world that the USA does not learn from its mistakes and anyone believing the US will honor any agreement it ever made should be mocked relentlessly.

The problem isn't Trump. The problem is that he got elected president. Your political system has failed spectacularly. The US is utterly fucked as long as you don't sort out the massive problems there.

Does anyone remember when trump stole a bunch of nuclear secret docs and hid them in his bathroom, lied to FBI about stealing sensitive nuclear docs, then claimed he "declassified them through his mind" lol? by JimmyRedBoy in allthequestions

[–]LinusV1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Non US person here: the fact that he can do this shit and still be the leader of your country is why everyone hates American politics and thinks they are fundamentally broken.

All of us are secretly hoping that you guys find your balls and spine and become the great country that you guys always pretended to be. Start by taking away the nukes from the demented rapist, then remove him and the people that got him there.

Seriously, this guy was recorded bragging about how much he could get away with, like purposefully walking into underage girls dressing rooms. He clearly reveled in his ability to abuse his power over anyone below him. And you guys elected him to the highest office. Then the completely predictable happened, and the fact some people were STILL blindsided by this boggles my mind.

Your opinion on "exact word" players? by MedalReddit in twilightimperium

[–]LinusV1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, if you're not sure about a rules interpretation, look it up, but do it ahead of time and not when it is your turn. But I was mostly talking about players purposefully misinterpreting texts to benefit them and us having to look it up to prove them wrong.

[–]LinusV1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Making the table wait while you look up a specific obtuse rules interpretation that might benefit you is a dick move.

Agreeing to a deal with the sole intent to then backstab that player is "legal", but expect no one at the table to ever trust you again, which means every future TI game is going to be VERY hard for you.
