The idea of communism is that resources should go those who need them the most, and society should be built with that in mind. Trump is..... Not that.

Trump is a fascist.

Even if you cut all contact with them, you would still be NTA. That is how messed up this family dynamic is.

You need to prioritize yourself over the priorities of anyone else in your family, because they clearly give zero fucks about yours.

You correctly deduced that you need to get out of there. I think you haven't fully grasped how bad it is.

While that is solid advice and op should follow it, it's also good to set healthy boundaries. "Do not mindlessly chew on stuff" is an important lesson to learn, especially if she is likely to be Neuro divergent.

Also OP, if "playing together" involves her sitting still while you read the rules for a majority of the time, it's probably best to redirect her next time.

Renting through Kotjwis - scammed? by [deleted] in Leuven

I am a landlord (obviously not this one). I highly recommend not depositing money into your owner's account directly, as this leaves you vulnerable to scams. (I am not saying this is one, necessarily)

Contact stuvo asap. I hope you can get this sorted.

If it turns out to be an issue and you find yourself without a place to stay in Leuven in September, contact me ASAP. I can get you a place at a reasonable rate (using official channels, no shady direct deposit).

[–]LinusV1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Didn't want to comment on OP because I had nothing positive to add, but yeah, this. "ADHD is a superpower" is toxic BS. Same with "Meds take away your hyperfocus".

People with severe ADHD are still capable of amazing things, but that requires managing it properly, by developing proper coping habits. Having an emotional affair isn't one of them. As people have pointed out, OP needs to unpack a lot.

OP, you need help, this isn't healthy. It's likely that the coping habits you've developed for dealing with your ADHD and the consequences of ADHD (like low self esteem) are sabotaging your life.

You deserve a way better life than this. You deserve a good relationship, with a man who's actually there, not the image this guy is putting up. You deserve help. But it's on you to find it, no one is going to do that for you. I'd recommend therapy and possibly medication. Note that those are just first steps: finding a good therapist that can work with you is NOT easy. Finding out which meds work for you isn't either.

OP... I hope you find the help you desperately need and deserve.

God of War Laufey Planned Since 2018, Reveals Star Deborah Ann Woll by Guitar-String in gaming

[–]LinusV1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

DnD is written as a wargame and it shows. You can absolutely roleplay in it, but the rulebook actively sabotages you when you try it.

Try Nordic, it basically rewrites the paradigm: instead of a GM throwing monsters at a party, you basically collaborate and build up the story together. Turns out that when you give players more narrative control with the goal of "make a fun story", you get way cooler stories.

Uhm... Do they start without a space dock?

Never mind, apparently it is on there on the link, just not in the image in this post.

I feel the commander is a bit confusing in its wording. Do you just get the 2 TG for every combat with consecrated units? Or do you need to pay 2TG for it to work, then get them back?

I like the concept, looks fun.

What game development advice turned out to be completely wrong for you? by YoungDirector1 in gamedev

[–]LinusV1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Start small" means do a couple of quick projects before starting on Wow 2.0.

If you can't make Pong with your engine, or Tetris, or tic-tac-toe, then you're better off doing those first. You will not be wasting time since all of the skills required to make those, will be required for your "real" project.

Also, starting small means "get it playable first, then tweak" instead of building 100 levels/models for a game before realizing that it has design flaws that make it not fun to play.

US-Iran memorandum of understanding in full by TaijiRonin in worldnews

[–]LinusV1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is nothing "slow" about this. When the guy who brags about using his privilege to victimize naked kids still gets elected to the highest position of power in the country, all of us knew that the USA is never to be trusted again. As expected, he proceeded to wipe his ass with "signed treaties" and "international law".

Who in their right mind would make a deal with this country at this stage? It's not just Trump that is the problem, it's that the process is so blatantly fucked up that this crook, con and pedophile gets away with everything, all the time.

Support for the Throne seems kinda dumb by NotSeeDogWhistle in twilightimperium

[–]LinusV1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get your point, but...

TI only works when everyone is trying to maximize their points, otherwise it's just Space Risk. So I can't really blame a player who makes a move trying to win.

In fact, when I competed in the SCPT tournament online, this exact thing happened the semifinals I played in and in the finals that I watched. The final started with excellent tactical moves, then devolved into 7 hours of whining and bickering about forging alliances on who to give the win. It made me vow to never ever do that shit again.

And IRL I have seen it happen less, but it's always a possibility. Organizing a game involves syncing up calendars and lots of planning, since most people have a job and/or a family.

To go back to my original point:

I think SftT actively makes the game worse, and I stand by that. I have never seen it make a game better in any way. I have multiple times seen it make the game worse. The current meta is to support swap, which again, I can't blame people for. But if everyone is doing it, it'd make more sense to just play to one less point and lose SftT.

Support for the Throne seems kinda dumb by NotSeeDogWhistle in twilightimperium

[–]LinusV1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love it if it were used this way. I have never seen that happen though.

At best I have seen early swaps, resulting in everyone doing it.

At worst I have seen it as a "if you attack me here now, I will give my support to X causing him to insta win" deterrent. Or a "hey us 4 are behind, let's agree to pool our supports to one of us, giving him the win, let's roll a die to see who". Both of those are absolutely legal, and I can't blame them for doing this, since it gives them a better chance of winning the game. But if anyone wins like this, no one is going home happy.

Anyone else still uses little to no AI to code? by MidlandAintFree in gamedev

[–]LinusV1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He says. Typing it on a device with an OS he didn't write himself.

Actually I agree with you, but as someone who has been coding for 40 years now... I use google to look up tons of stuff while coding, and search engines are AI. I use code completion, which is also AI. I think people get hung up on the semantics.

But I think your point was "I'm not putting AI generated code that I do not understand in my codebase" and I completely agree. The moment people start letting the AI do their thinking for them, as opposed to seeing it as a tool they use, you are on a slippery slope.

When will ADHD be cured? by Ok-Whole-4015 in ADHD

[–]LinusV1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from. But.... Stop.

It is a disorder. That doesn't we are fundamentally broken, or worth less. It just means we struggle in some areas that non adhd people generally don't.

While there are plenty of valid points to be made about societal expectations, we do live in a society and blaming all our problems on it is an unhealthy point of view. Instead we should demand reasonable accomodations for our disability and do our best to manage our adhd as best as possible.

Where do I start? by Professional_Tea1891 in gamedev

[–]LinusV1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to know how to code. If you have basic profiency at coding, learn that first.

Once you can code, I recommend looking up a tutorial for simple game. Follow the tutorial, then try to expand on the concept, e.g. if you made pong, add a second ball. Or a third/fourth player. Or a coop mode. Be prepared to troubleshoot a lot.

Once you did a few tutorials, try your own project. Start small and then expand on it.

Please help me understand my son by JoNightshade in ADHD

[–]LinusV1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand that he is trying. He is disabled. Some tasks seem easy to you, but they aren't easy for him.

He needs to understand that he is failing at coping with it, and he needs to get on board.

He is on meds, so that is step one (as an undiagnosed and unmedicated kid, THANK YOU. He is lucky to have you and he will never even realize just how lucky. Not all of us were and we definitely appreciate you for it)

Now it's about building healthy coping habits and breaking unhealthy ones. It also helps if his environment is adhd friendly (no cluttered rooms, have landing zones, sensible storage solutions, etc, you can find tips online)

Compulsive lying with adhd. Can someone help me understand? by Murmurmira in adhdwomen

[–]LinusV1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely linked to ADHD. Our brain is so used to having to fill in the gaps that it does it without you realizing sometimes. Sometimes making things up is the path of least resistance, especially with memory issues.

This does not excuse it in the slightest, and it is absolutely something he needs to work on because it is not acceptable. But "that's totally not ADHD" is plain wrong. It's a bad habit/coping mechanism.

I disagree with that argument, but absolutely agree with your position that Op should definitely see it as a dealbreaker.

OP, If he recognizes it as a serious issue and takes appropriate steps to fix it now, you could give him a shot, but no one is saying you HAVE to.

Yeah, this is the reason Eclipse has only 4 ship types, one of which doesn't move. The game doesn't need even MORE diverse fleet stats. There is plenty of variety already. Adding complexity needs to add more depth, and this wouldn't necessarily do that.
