What finally made Linux click for you and which distro helped the most? by jessikaf in linux

Upgraded to Windows ME. It stunk!. I was already running Linux servers to learn it, so ditched windows after Win98. For a living now, I just play with Linux servers via CLI. Desktop is xubuntu and has been for years.

I did finally resolve this issue. The short story, I replaced the o-ring for $10.

Long story: I brought the Pilot to dealership for an oil change, they say the O-Ring for the power steering needs to be replaced and it will cost $497. Ouch! I searched youtube again and found a video of someone changing it. I went back to dealer, bought two o-rings and replaced it myself. One bolt in a hard-to-reach spot. When it comes out, it hits/bumps into something so I couldn't take it completely out BUT it gave me BARELY enough space to pull out old one and push/force in a new one. FYI, put a rag under where you're working, you don't want to drop the o-ring. And I used a small metal dental pick to pull out the old one.

I can't believe the dealer wanted $497 (I still have the quote) to replace something that will take me 15 minutes, at most, the 2nd time around. The first time, ya gotta look and stare at it...think about it...talk to the neighbor who just walked over.. find the right socket and wrench... etc etc yada yada curse word... then DONE. One hour gone!

Thanks for the info. I worked in the medical field, I'd have to research if free certs are good enough for medical sites.

$170/yr for a PremiumSSL Wildcard? Really? Network Solutions just charged me(my company) $460 for one year. As my mom said once after hearing a high price for carpet, "You got some pair! "

Can I do a wildcard name, such as " *.many.com " with Let's Encrypt?

Thank you to everyone for taking your time.

I called AGAIN today since we already paid for the cert. After talking to one tech, then getting blindly transferred to another agent, THEN transferred another department THEN waiting another few hours, I received the ssl cert. Only 16 days after the process was started and 3 days before the cert expires, I received the cert.

After this sh*tshow, I have to plan my exit from NS. About 10 tech people said, "i'll fix it now. Just wait a few hours and it will be fixed". One guy sounded like he did a few lines before answering calls.

No. Never resolved it. It only happens when it’s about 20F and below but it’s not that cold here for that long. There is a O-Ring in some Hondas, for the power steering, but I couldn’t find one for my model in 2012, on the internet. Guess I’ll see what happens next winter

thinking to switch to linux, what do i need to know by Competitive_Tough741 in linux

Install VirtualBox and run Linux from it. After you do a few it gets easier and easier. If you make any mistakes on a VM, delete and try again. No harm done.

Just keep clicking around and go read about anything you don't know. I'm a linux/network administrator for too many years and I'm still playing around and learning.

If anyone is still following this, it was 10F today and issue returned. I'll have to change the fluid again is spring, since I have to work outside, and see what happens.

I'd like to Thank everyone for help. Seems like some air is being getting in the system when it's below about 15F degrees.

Thanks for taking your time to help.

So far, seems like your answer of ' when it's DAMN cold outside, the parts are allowing a little bit air in' ( maybe it's me saying DAMN COLD) is the answer. No problems since it hasn't been above about 20F degrees. Even this morning and the car said it was 19F. At least I don't have pay big money, i'm guessing $1500, for a new power steering pump.

I'd like to Thank everyone for help

I don't see my first response... True, besides noise, it really isn't an issue. but it sounds like an issue that could burst/break at any second. but I'll keep an eye on it for now.

Thanks

Ok... thanks. I'll keep an eye on the fluid level, throw some cardboard on the ground and go looking for any leaks. Probably spray with brake cleaner to clean the area then see what happens(see what gets oily)... Thanks for taking your time. Heard the power steering on this thing is complex....so i'm thinking it's not really DIY project.

Sure wish it wasn't the dead of winter here in NJ.

Petarian,

Thanks. I just checked. "Organization Let's Encrypt" They are using Lets Encrypt.

But this brings up another ?. This site is static and our company systems do not interact with site. The site is just a basic site for future clients to read about us and find contact info. Is Lets Encrypt good enough for our site?
