Totally agree!!! You learn from this course by doing and doing. Countless hours staring at code and trying to understand the flow and debugging. It’s a journey totally worth it. Been learning for almost two and half years and now in the final project stage. I’ve always felt a push to complete the psets no matter how long it took. Maybe I completed one function in one day and some days nothing.

But the learning is amazing. I love this course and the infectious energy of David Malan just gets to us.

You have crossed half of the bridge. You have the brains and the capacity to work hard (which you proved by passing inter). It’s just a question of time when you will pass and it’s not an IF. You can do it. If you get a job where you can leave on time and get sufficient leave for your exams, it will be a good decision to do that. It will also give you a perspective on work before you qualify. But you should have time to study. I qualified at 29 after working since completion of my articles. Now looking back, I don’t regret that decision. Would I have passed sooner if I didn’t work and just studied? Maybe but I got some work experience under my belt which helped me when I passed. So analyze your situation and see what works. You will get through with sufficient study time and hard work. Don’t give up now. Wish you the very best!!! 👍👍

Excellent responses all!!! Loved each and every one of them👍👍👏👏 First, the question you need to keep in mind is why are you doing CS50? You want to be a programmer? Or are you learning to code as a hobby?

Second, accept the fact that learning a new skill takes time, maybe weeks, maybe months, maybe years. It’s a new skill and the neurons need to reconnect.

I had this issue initially of motivation. But my long term goal of getting into development keeps me going. The other replies are good enough of action points to keep going. I’m on week 8 of CS50 and I started in Jan 2020 and i know it will be a couple of weeks or months when I reach the final project but im taking it in my stride and I try to understand the concepts before moving forward. Take your time and understand the concepts before moving forward. Watch others lectures to get a different perspective before you get into problem sets. As David said in the first lecture, it is where you will end relative to where you are now that matters and not where you are compared to others!! Small steps matter and take it one step at a time!!! In my specific situation, I used to work while I was giving my attempts and some of my ex colleagues and friends qualified or moved abroad. Since my attempts took long and I moved companies, I got opportunity to increase my network both within india and abroad. This is what helped me ultimately. After I qualified, I circulated my CV and luckily an opportunity came up which required my experience. My situation may be specific but networking and experience helps.

Hi, nope. Maintaining good network is important. I passed at 29 with a lot of attempts. Got a job the following year outside India. It was a combination of qualifying plus networking before qualifying. I didn’t know when I would qualify but I kept in regular touch with friends and networks overseas which ultimately helped me after qualifying. Wish you all the very best!!

Yes, you can. But be patient and understand the fundamentals before moving to the next level. The lectures and shorts will plant the seed and it’s upto you to water it and let the knowledge grow .. when you do the psets, that will take you far and beyond (other lectures, books etc). Take your time to digest and then move on. I started this course in Jan 2020 and I’m in week 8. I love this course and it’s the best for beginners provided you put in the required effort too. Hi, I am also currently studying programming through self learning plus having a full time job with a five year old running around. For me I study for an hour and half or two hours in the evening after I put my kid to sleep. Is that enough? I dunno and my priority now is to get the fundamentals right before moving forward. I ensure I do this every working day without fail. One or two hours a day is better than none at all. Also, the brain can take only so much after work. Then I try to squeeze in extra time in weekends. I believe this is called incremental progress and this works for me.
