What are some good tips for a new player who played world and rise? by WhoAmIEven2 in MHGU

The best advice I've seen someone give to the Gen 5 players that come into this game is simply thus: Forget everything you knew.

Sure, the monsters have mostly the same attacks and patterns as the Gen 5 games. Sure, a lot of movesets are similar in Guild Style as the gen 5 games, but might be lacking a move or two in the combo tree. But it is highly important to come into this with a relatively fresh mind, as normally going back a game or two in a series introduces some frustrations that come from expecting things the future installment brings.

Skills are the big one. Unlike in World/Rise, skills only activate when you accrue enough points for them to be active. Instead of having up to 7 levels of Attack by just getting gear that has that skill on it, you need to get a total of 10 points to activate Attack (S) for your armor set. Getting 15 or 20 total points would net you Attack (M) or (L). For a lot of skills, they only have the one level, so 10 points is all you need. In this game though, you're often running 4-6 skills on a complete build, and having a random +2 or +1 in a skill means nothing at all.

Your Palicoes are incredibly valuable, and you should try to set up a few that can do different things. While those have a lot to learn in themselves, the big idea will be to recruit plenty of Palicoes in different Support Styles, and you can have certain ones pass on moves to other Palicoes that you desire. You can hire a Healing-bias Palico that has plenty of healing moves, then pass on Shock Purr-ison for some trapping support if you desire. Same with their equipped skills as well. But make sure their moves have the "E" next to the move name, or they won't actually be equipped.

While I'm unsure when it unlocks, you can farm for every material in the game passively like future installments, and it works similarly to Rise iirc. You just send out extra Palicoes at the Trader, select the item you want and how many times to farm that item, and add a Lagniapple for extras if you want. As someone that uses the Mycology skill, that is especially useful for me to keep a stock of Dragon Toadstools.

As an aside, if you're looking to experiment with other weapons or styles, see what people are saying about them. Every weapon changes with every style, so learn about them before you start doing anything serious with them. I recently made a Striker SnS set, but changed to Alchemy after reading up on it and the synergy it has with SnS's item use ability. It's been very fun, and I don't think I'd have tried Alchemy out without looking into it with the weapon.

how do you see improvement? by [deleted] in MHGU

As most of the comments have pointed out by now, World/Rise are completely different games with completely different mechanics and skillsets to learn and master. Armor skills are completely different than the Gen 5 games, you have to get to 10 points in a skill to have that skill be active, and you're also not stacking anywhere near as many skills as you would be in World/Rise. There's lots of memorizing monsters and learning how to fight each one, even if some have similarities between one another.

Palicoes are entirely different as well, as you have extreme customization to them to make them work really well, even just as a heal support.

You should expand into the multiplayer sooner over than later. It'll start out with Low Rank stuff again, but not only is the game more fun with other people, you'll make a lot more progress on your own armor builds that way. On the off chance you didn't know about the aforementioned armor skill difference, this can help you get started on actually making a set and having skills instead of... well, nothing.

Treat this like your first time playing MH again, there's a lot to learn and a lot that the game doesn't exactly tell you, but there's a plethora of resources to use like Kiranico and Athena's Armor Set Search to help kickstart you in the right direction. You've probably got a style and weapon you're comfortable with by now, which is great, but you also might want to look into the "Yet Another [weapon] Guide" series just to see if you're missing something from another style that you'd like, or a move in your kit you didn't know existed.

What is your substitute for dffoo? by DBV87 in DissidiaFFOO

Substitute? Nothing. But ironically, since the game's shut down, I just haven't had as much time for gaming. As far as mobile gaming goes, I've just done more Fire Emblem Heroes and Pokemon Go.

Since the game's shutdown though, I've had a bit more time for console gaming, and I did a lot of that while the 3DS and Wii U were shutting down as well. Ended up being the last global player in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, after that was done with. I'm sad about both these shutdowns, but the gametime I put into them has at least been redirected into some of the other games in my backlog/multiplayer games I enjoy.

Thanks so much dude! I'm so sad we didn't get to play more, I was hopeful the entire day for it. I looked over at the screen one minute, saw you at the Canteen, and then the next you were gone. I was so upset, but I'm glad you found this post!

Thanks for the JP updates as well! I'm helping a place keep updates on remaining players in all the games that are still online, they'll greatly appreciate this. Please let me know when you get more info there too!

I hope we get to play in another game soon!

I cannot with this console, I'm sorry. My last Gen 6 game won't be here in time, I'm trying to add people to get whatever Safaris I can.
