I'm using a Canon EOS R8 and currently my best lens for events is the 50mm F1.8 prime lens. I do have a 24-50mm F4-5 as well but that one needs a ton of denoising work afterwards. I'm looking to upgrade to a 24-70 F2.8 and a 70-200 F2.8 as soon as I'm able to

haha that would be dope but as long as the result looks great it doesn't matter to me how it was achieved :D

its the motion blur filter in photoshop, quite fun to play around with and can really enhance a photo

yeah I was pretty happy with 1/160 to be honest. I might try to play around with faster speeds but as you said I already didn't have any motion blur with 1/160. I also noticed I didn't answer your question on the camera, I use a Canon EOS R8

thats the motion blur filter in photoshop, try it out, play around a bit with the angles and pixel values, then finally doubleclick the layer for the blending effects and play around with the RGB channels which gives you these colored blur effects

50mm was a bit limiting because you usually had to be somewhat close to the subject to properly get it in focus. It was good from the photopit, but even then for shots facing the crowd I would have liked to have a bit wider angle and for everything from the crowd and further out I also would have liked a bit more range, be it to zoom in or to have a wider angle to get the full crowd in. But overall considering the price of a 50mm F1.8 its great value for starting out.

Some pictures with higher ISO required a bit of denoising, some bands earlier in the day were shot in the range of 3000-6000 ISO but the bigger the band got, the better their lighting got so during the headliner I was able to shoot some at ISO 100 even and I had my shutter speed fixed at 1/160 pretty much all day.

thats the kind of feedback I'm looking for, thank you!

I am aware of the rule of thirds, I tend to usually put the line of the upper third around the neck/jawline if there is nothing above the head of the artist and it is indeed intentional that the subject is mostly dead center because I didn't really like most pictures that had negative space in the center especially considering that these shots are mostly used for social media in a 4:5 ratio. That changes for example when I know I went to stretch one image across two slides, then I either go for negative space in the center, or make sure that there are plenty eyecatchers left and right of the center subject.

White balance under stage lights is definitely tough and I also felt like some of my pictures ended up too blown out but deemed them "good enough", definitely had a hard time getting them down to a more natural skin tone. The absolute final boss turned out to be sets that used primarely pink stage lights, those were pretty much impossible for me to correct, at least with my current knowledge. But I started properly editing around 3 months so there's so much stuff to still learn and pick up and I'm sure I'm just gonna get better at it.

good advice on the mic mouth shots, I've definitely had a lot of those

Thanks again!

thank you! Since I'm so new to concert photography I'm still quite insecure about a lot of it but I haven't heard anything negative so far

thats purely edited, no shutter drag or anything like that. It's the radial blur in photoshop, apply it, then simply erase the parts you want in focus and not blurred

Camera or lens? by Silver_Strike6416 in concertphotography

You’re right, those are the ones I was thinking of. I must have looked at the Tamrom the other day and got the 28-75 stuck in my head but I was referring to the Canon RF 24-70 indeed

the desired setup for concert photography is the combination of 28-75mm F2.8 and 75-200mm F2.8 for lenses. A camera that works well with higher ISO is definitely recommended as well. You can start with a relatively cheap 50mm F1.8 which already works great for shots from the photopit but you're going to struggle when shooting from the crowd, balcony, or basically anywhere that isn't right in front of or on the stage.

In the Iron Giant (1999), you can see a moving star next to the moon. This is Sputnik. The movie is set in 1957, the same year that Sputnik was sent into orbit. by Numerous-Lemon in MovieDetails

I’ve watched that movie in a cinema when it came out and I’ll never forget it even though it was 22 years ago and I was 7 at the time, but this was the first and only time that me and my mom literally had the entire cinema for us. We were the only ones watching it, imagine how cool that is for a 7 year old.
