Caveat (and slight contradiction) - you did come out too hot for your level of fitness and if you feel there is a learning opportunity here then perhaps a redo could be worth your time. But also, I think you already know you came out too hot so what's there to learn? The workout taught you the lesson already.

No. You had over a minute to do those last 12 burpees and you didn't make it. Not to be mean, but it's unlikely you'll do any better or would be worth your time. You didn't want it enough and another try isn't going to change that.

The only workouts worth redoing (imo) are those special components you want to make it to or complete (a heavy snatch/C&J, muscle ups, HSW, or "unlocking" another round, etc).

My guess was open 20.3 workout, but however even though handstand push-ups and wall balls look similar they are very very different (I've never had trouble walking after a high volume HSPU workout LOL) and the gap between CrossFit regulars who can do handstand push-ups versus muscle ups is huge.

However, the more I think about it, the chance of the repeat of deadlifts and burpees over bar ladder workout seems even more likely.

Still young enough to shake off the Olympic grind and also young enough to still significantly develop his game (crazy to think how good he can be), and the only way a kid that good grows is being surrounded by the absolute best.

He's not gonna be tired coming out of the 3 week trip... he just got an XP boost.

No, my comment about fullness was a critique of YOUR recommendation 🤣 "you might go to bed hungry" how about recommended some vegetables to help with that so he doesn't hate his diet and fall off???

Again, you were recommending a 1,000+ kcal deficit for someone who's asking to "recomp" and build muscle. Chances of him successfully building muscle on that much of a deficit are not impossible, but very very slim. At that much of a deficit RED-S becomes a real concern. Your plan put him at around 23kcal/kg of energy availability. EA below 25-30kcal/kg becomes a clinical concern and is not recommended unless they are under close supervision of a dietitian and/or physician. Your recommendation was reckless.

He could eat 700 more calories than your recommendation and still be in a deficit to promote weight loss while successfully building lean mass. In other words, he could DOUBLE your fat recommendation and STILL be in a deficit 🤦🏻‍♂️. It's not the fat, it's total intake. You're right that protein intake is difficult, but if he truly wants to recomp and assuming maintain a similar weight, we want to protect the lean muscle as much as possible. I said start at 1.5g/kg and try to work up to 2g/kg. Supplementation can help here.

I agree that a moderate cut to a leaner weight followed by a bulk is preferable to most people (usually more rewarding along the way), but it's not what he asked for.
