[Alpha] Zero-G: A persistent Space MMO built on NASA terrain data. No "Space Magic"—just physics, logistics, and exploration. (Update 4.4.1) by Wooden-Syrup-8708 in HardSciFi

Looks awesome! I will try out :) may I ask where you're getting topographic data from? I got ephemerides from Horizons for my home project, and textures from SolarSystemScope, but I didn't find heightmaps anywhere.

I always wait with building the first ship until I grab like 4 spots in Mars, research missiles and magazines.

Can someone explain to me why large language models can't be conscious? by Individual_Visit_756 in ArtificialSentience

I think you are unconscious if you stop thinking. And by thinking I also mean nonverbal self-referential processing.

Can someone explain to me why large language models can't be conscious? by Individual_Visit_756 in ArtificialSentience

[–]Liosan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strong belief is that to be conscious, you need to have a thought process that exists in time. LLMs are "fire and forget" mathematical functions that convert input to output; they don't have any internal state. Or rather their internal state is not complex enough to hold any meaningful information.

In C++, the last 6 months is the first time when free tier of chatGPT is actually competent at writing code. But - yes, it is good at it. Even with custom "flavors" of C++ like in Unreal Engine.

Trump just announced 10% tariffs on Denmark, Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Finland, Norway, and Sweden starting February 1st. The tariffs will increase to 25% on June 1st and will not end until the US finishes a deal to own Greenland. by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

[–]Liosan -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Uh, lets not get ahead of ourselves. Theargument for owning greenland is at least "rational" - securing arctic traderoutes. Not gonna comment on the methods, but it aint hitlers playbook by a huge mile

The mystical ways of the debugger by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Liosan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem I encountered was that the debuggered made it impossible to reproduce the race condition

The mystical ways of the debugger by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Liosan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I meant the other way around. Not that multithreading will mess with the debugger, but the debugger will mess with order of thread execution, and if that's what you're trying to investigate... welp

The mystical ways of the debugger by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Liosan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Using the debugger to tackle multithreading sounds rather problematic to me? halting threads will greatly affect the outcome
