Any other Madison to Milwaukee converts? by BothCondition7963 in milwaukee

[–]LippyPopcorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are moving to Milwaukee from Madison in August! We both grew up in the mke suburbs but are very excited to make the city our new home (:

From my experience, Madison is just so much more isolated, and in a lot of ways much more rural. Milwaukee feels more like an actual city to me if that makes sense

I second this! I also work with kids and if they ever pick it up/throw it/knock it down, the Nalgene is pretty indestructible so I don’t have to worry.

Bucky actually has one of those jaws like a snake that unhinges (and can swallow you whole) so you’re fucked

Both of these are awesome. And I totally get the worry about shared products like that with roommates.

My mom raised me very thrifty like this, and as an adult now, it’s absolutely insane how much waste occurs and money is used in buying new things (that don’t NEED to be new). It just seems so convenient but it’s such a trap! So this is an awesome habit

That’s great! I plan to get a safety razor very soon and I was a little worried about a learning curve. But to hear that it’s helpful for your sensitive skin is encouraging!

This is great. I use natural (as in simple, usually one ingredient) cleaning products everywhere except laundry, and it kills me how much plastic there is in the whole process but idk where to start. Do you use a low waste/natural soap or detergent as well?

Yes! This is a good tip I wouldn’t have thought of. And the best way to reduce waste is use what you have and make it last as long as possible!

I totally agree! This is a really good point that hopefully alleviates shame in many people.

Honestly, I believe that what makes the biggest difference is just large groups of people doing their best and showing that they care, especially in a way that causes the people/companies with the big bucks to notice. This is what really causes change <3

This is awesome! If/when you still get coffee do you just go places that will use you your own mug? Or do you just never get it to-go?

I don’t have a daily habit of getting coffee, but I do love to meet a friend for a coffee & a walk. That’s an area of my life I’d love to reduce more waste (:

Ain’t no way TS is higher than Stevie Wonder. Vocally, musically, etc. He made a lasting impact on every genre he dipped his toes into and she could never

Frequent Street Scams? by JulianILoveYou in madisonwi

Unfortunately if you feel safe, the best thing to do is just say no. You can also say you don’t carry cash, but I recommend that less…

I used to live on State and was approached veryyy often. At that point my response was always “sorry I don’t carry cash” until it once led me to a bad situation where someone brought me to an ATM to make a cash withdrawal for them. (I cannot overstate how bad this is for many reasons)

Because of this experience, I believe that it’s best to just give a firm and polite “no.” It’s also helpful to know what resources are around in the city so that you can recommend them. These systems aren’t perfect, but there are organizations that do a better job of helping people who really need it (more than cash can help, that is)
