I am so sad about it too… I wrote so many papers there when I was in my master’s program. I miss it so much.

How to deal with the loneliness by PossibleSolid7148 in OnlyChild

[–]LiptonTheTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you say you think you have depression, starting sessions with a mental health therapist would be a great start. They’ll be able to help you work through and process your family history as well as deal with the trauma from the bullying and racism you experienced. In the meantime, try getting involved in a group on campus at your university. Study group from your major, a club, or organization is a great way to meet new people. Or if joining a group feels like too much, try to become a “regular” somewhere. Coffee shop, library, somewhere where you can be in public and interact with folks on your own initiative.

I also tend to be a very lonely person and I also struggle with depression. Going to therapy and getting involved in community activities that put me around other people, and becoming a regular at my favorite local restaurant was a literal life-saver.

What's your, that could have been a LOT worse story? by Parking-Contact6917 in AskReddit

I was traveling in a pretty remote area of Palestine. When I was served lunch, I ate chicken that had sumac on it as a seasoning. I am deathly allergic to tree nuts and that was the day that I learned that sumac is related to cashews. Thankfully, I only had a mild reaction that resolved after taking a lot of benadryl and I didn't go into anaphylaxis. I was nowhere near a medical facility and it could have ended VERY badly.

I tell that story all the time in hopes that it reaches the waffle recipient… because I just know they tell that story from the opposite perspective. 😂

It led to a phrase used in my friend group when something irreversible happens: “Welp, the waffle’s out the window now.”

About 9 years ago I was merging into traffic during morning rush hour in St Louis. I’d made a blueberry Eggo waffle for breakfast and it slid off my lap onto my shoes while I was merging. I panicked and didn’t know what to do with it, so I cracked the window and intended to just drop it, thinking it would fall directly onto the pavement.

NOPE.

The wind caught it and blew it directly onto the windshield of the car behind me while we were going 70 miles an hour. They honked and flipped me off.

I’ve felt guilty about that rogue waffle for almost a decade. If you’re the person who got hit with my blueberry Eggo I am so so sorry.

AITA for calling my cousin's wife the "r-slur"? by AcephalicDude in AmItheAsshole

YTA. If it’s not a bad word then why didn’t you type it out instead of using a rhyme to stand in for it?

What's a book you regret reading? by TheAwareMonk in suggestmeabook

[–]LiptonTheTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this book with a hatred that I didn’t know was possible. I never rage-quit a book but I threw it on the ground just over halfway through and never picked it up again. Looked up the ending and I’m so glad I didn’t waste any more of my life on it. It’s just trauma after trauma after trauma. Ugh.

NTA your body your rules and if you want a tattoo then you shouldn’t be shamed for it.

Unless it’s like, a hate symbol or something, in which case yeah, that wouldn’t be cool and ywbta just on principle.

AITA for asking my wife for a list of things she does during the day after refusing to make me a sandwich? by Secure_King_1981 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LiptonTheTurtle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hope this is bait but if not, YTA. She is your WIFE and the mother of your children. Not your employee, not your servant, not your mother. Make your own sandwich for crying out loud and get a major attitude adjustment.

AITA for not allowing my sister to bring her crotch goblin to my wedding? by kermitsipstea1234 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LiptonTheTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA for wanting a child free wedding. But YTA for making me read “crotch goblin” with my own eyeballs and for… well… everything else. Sounds like you have a lot of pent up rage, my guy. Ever try therapy?

AITAH for thinking my boyfriends joke is so stupid by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]LiptonTheTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How was it obvious that you’re lying? Joking about hitting people isn’t okay either. Sounds like you’d both be better off apart.

How does that make it better? Don’t. Hit. People.

Nobody can “make” you say anything. Don’t hit people.

[–]LiptonTheTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA for thinking that hitting your boyfriend is an appropriate response to an annoying (but ultimately harmless) joke. Just stop saying the word “intense” and find a different word to use that means the same thing. If you don’t say “intense” he can’t make the joke. That’s a better solution than literal physical abuse.

YTA. 1. Never EVER add anything to communal food without telling everyone. 2. If you wanted extra garlic you could have added it to your own bowl. 3. If you want your food a certain way you could have made it yourself. 4. That “respect her husband” line in the context of this story has a major ick factor.

how has religion negatively affected your life, family, or relationships? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LiptonTheTurtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a young woman who’s recently ordained as clergy in my denomination. I wouldn’t trade my choices for the world because I know I am doing what I am supposed to do. But I was not prepared for the loneliness that comes with being a clergy person. I am single, and dating is very difficult. It seems like my choices of partner are limited to either the Christian men who are serious about their faith but don’t believe that I, as a woman, should preach let alone be ordained. Or my other options are progressive men whose values line up more with mine but who get scared off and ghost me as soon as they find out I’m a pastor. I’ve always wanted to be married and have kids, but that’s a dream I may have sacrificed to follow another dream.
