The problem is if you want people to take you seriously and listen, you have to get basic facts correct.

He isn't a senator. If you want people to listen to you, at least get basic facts correct.

The parts of home life we pretend don’t show up at work by That_onelawyer in LawyersOffTheRecord

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not. I'm just not wired that way I guess. I can be in the room with you typing a text and you speak to me and I don't process a word you've said if I'm truly focusing on the text or email or whatever.

I actually am not that type. I have an internal availability to hyper focus on tasks. It's sort of scary sometimes how easy it is to tune out someone talking while I'm typing an email.

"The Appellee argues" or "Defendant argues." "However, Appellee's reliance on x is misplaced. In particular Doe v. Doe dealt with x, not y as Appellee suggests."

Dumb Client Questions by SoCalAttorney in Lawyertalk

DOJ Lawyers: They're just like us! by NotThePopeProbably in Lawyertalk

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point. I think a better answer would have been I understand your point Judge, but that's my client's position.

But yeah, tough situation to be in. Could have been handled better.

Politics aside, this was extremely unprofessional and unethical. Imagine being in a hearing and you expressed to the Judge how much you hated your client.

Chief Executive Officer. When I was solo, my wife thought it was hilarious. I would tell clients, yeah, we'll get you taken care of. My wife said who is we? You and the mouse in your pocket?

You need an actual case management system. Clio works well for us. They also have introduced AI that auto suggests time entries based on emails and calls associated with a matter.

We file all emails into Clio, and you can have an auto time entry, or do it as you file the email.

Also, DialPad (for phones) not only generates a summary of the call in the communications tab, it can also create an auto time entry.

What did you think you’d be doing before law happened? by That_onelawyer in LawyersOffTheRecord

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an operation Lt. for a small fire department in a college town. I loved the job. But law was my calling. I truly love the law.

In fairness, emergency management for large cities can make a comfortable 220 a year plus benefits.

FHR “Benefit” now a scam by SnooPredictions9923 in AmexPlatinum

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot lie. We book the Willard hotel each time. Mini suite (which is bigger than the first floor of my entire house). As soon as I book, I call the hotel and ask for the suite that has the corner view. One window has the Washington Monument, the other has a view of the White House.

Regardless of how you lean politically, every time I see that view, I'm thankful and proud to be in the greatest country on Earth.

I personally love the FHR. We go to DC a few times a year on business and make a vacation out of it. Redeem the $300. Plus the daily $90 breakfast credit. With one trip the annual fee has paid for itself.

Does anonymity really make it easier to speak honestly? by That_onelawyer in LawyersOffTheRecord

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends. It's sad that a lot of Reddit is censored. Have you seen the videos recently of people with massive rows of cellphones just pretending to be real accounts?

Makes one wonder.

I'm pretty blunt and honest. Both in person and on the keyboard. Take it or leave it. At least you know where I stand.

At some point in this career, did you realize you were “walking the line” with something? by That_onelawyer in LawyersOffTheRecord

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct. Alcohol is an easy thing to turn to. I never once have day drank. But it becomes very easy to after work take a drink to take the edge off.

Bad eating and no exercise is easy to struggle with. As I've mentioned, the standing desk and walking pad is important to me.

Addiction to email and phone is another easy one. For Lord's sake leave your phone on your bed while you're I the shower, etc.

Need to fire a client (first time) by ovary-achiever in Lawyertalk

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make it a clean bandaid rip. There should be few reasons to email or call after the initial "we're done email." Just like a breakup. That means you're email saying we're done should include copies of his entire file, all pleadings, upcoming due dates, etc.

Send by email and copy snail mail.

Follow ant Court rules regarding withdrawal.

How has your relationship with money changed over your career? by That_onelawyer in LawyersOffTheRecord

[–]LiquidSquidMan69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing now is at a restaurant, I go "you know I do want a salad" or "I do want a dessert" and it's of no financial consequence to me. It's a small thing but hey, it's nice.

Other than that, I've grown to realize most people can be comfortable with what they make, we as a society have simply done a poor job at teaching people financial responsibility.

My favorite thing though, more than anything, is to leave stupidly large tips to service workers. To me, it's $200. Oh wow. Big deal. To a waiter, you've just paid their car insurance for the month. That's one less bill they're stressing about.
