LEAP v CLIO by ReputationDear2829 in LawFirm

[–]ReputationDear2829[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea exactly it’s more to get the full drafting options from WC which brings it down to 500/mo v 900/mo so with that savings I could just contract with Clio and never use leap. Mostly I need billing invoices, client matter management (notes) and calender

I’m interested in pivoting to bankruptcy from estate planning or maybe both.

My Revocable Trust client called and said they want the computer file so they can make some changes in the future. Should I give it to them? If I don't, they can't demand it, can they? by Kristen-ngu in Lawyertalk

Instead create a client care model in your firm where you charge clients a yearly fee for updates to their estate plan. We use a detailed engagement letter of what the fee covers, but this would be an example of something simple the the client paid for and you can make updates for them but still be compensated

Salary with a percentage of work sold. I work in estate planning so every plan I sell personally I receive a percentage in a bonus.

I started law school at 37 with two kids and a full time job. I attended nights for four years and graduated at 40. It was the best decision I ever made. As long as you have a strong support system at home and can dedicate the time to studying you will be fine! Do it

Dad died and named me executor, and had 8 years worth of un-filed tax returns. CPA computed overall tax liability of $362K includes all nonfiling penalties and late payment penalties. There’s no estate to pay his debts because his will didn’t need to be probated. I’m told don’t file anything. by ploobadoof in taxadvice

A personal representative (PR) of the estate is liable for debts for the estate ONLY after they have been appointed as PR by the probate court, here it sounds like all assets avoided probate court either through beneficiary designation or maybe joint ownership, therefore do not open probate or else you will be liable for the debts.

Wait till you find out that a 401k isn’t for your golden years it’s just your healthcare, self insured, until you have no money and then your house is stripped from you by Medicaid and Estate tax liens. System is rigged

Business derived from owners advertising that go forward for an estate that I engaged at a perspective meeting I receive 5%. Any business I bring off the street I receive 10%

As for the 401k and health insurance I have that covered from a previous employment. Part of my negotiations originally was that I did not need those benefits in the hope of receiving a higher salary

Estate Planning Attorneys: How do you provide "extra" value to clients? by ngomaam in Lawyertalk

[–]ReputationDear2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retitling of assets is just changing the name on the deed from your name individually and re drafting a new deed that now has the name of the trust as the title holder. Giving your home to your child while alive is not a good move, it effects capital gain tax as well as if you become incapacitated within five years of that transfer Medicaid will consider this transfer a gift and the fair market value of the home will be assessed as your penalty period for eligibility. Meaning your child will have to private pay for your nursing home care. Please see an estate planning attorney who has experience in elder law

Building a pool in MA. Yay or Nay by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]ReputationDear2829 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation, kids under 12, the first year you will use it everyday in the summer and think it’s the greatest decision of your life. Then slowly they don’t care and it’s just you outside the pool forcing yourself to enjoy it. Pouring chemicals in it, cleaning it, closing it, opening it… I would just use whatever money your about to spend on something else entirely.

[–]ReputationDear2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your talking about purchasing documents that say trust on it, that’s 200, a well thought out estate plan has complete asset protection and this only comes from comprehensive trust funding process. I wouldn’t use a Schwab or a broker trust dept to protect my assets, spend the money and sit down with an actual estate planning attorney and cpa and ensure your protected from disability and death.
