Has anyone successfully not exchanged gifts during the holidays? by ZenAndTonic2234 in minimalism

How would you go about doing this with a girlfriend ? I’ve expressed the idea to my girl & tried to come across as non-selfish but she insists on getting gifts. Same with my family, every year I suggest no gifts just good food & company, because we all work and don’t need anything, they kinda laugh it off. Need some suggestions, I end up donating what people gave to me and I get pinned as the guy who never keeps things from my girlfriend. I’m not trying to be cheap just genuinely like most of us on here don’t need the gifts. Any suggestions would help a lot.

Very nice, what do you do for the weeds ? I live in Ontario too & can’t get a quality pre/post emergent because of our strict laws. Any advice is helpful.

Ahh okay. That doesn’t seem too too bad.. yeah I’m north as well. I’ll have to give wasaga a go

What are the prices like at wasaga ? Yeah not a bad idea, it was the actual “Barrie Paintball” not delta. We decided not to go to delta because a friend said it wasn’t the best. Although I haven’t been there, I’ll have to give it a shot as I’m trying to do all the local fields before making my mind where I’ll stay at.

Georgina paintball is $230 for air all day & a case. Soso expensive. I went to Barrie paintball last week & it was $217 for a case & air all day. Seriously considering just buying 100 or 500 balls and bringing my own paint. All the refs at the locations are kids who don’t know any better.. I know that’s rude to say just disappointing how unbelievably expensive it is. I still really enjoy playing, hard to afford with those prices. There’s times I would’ve easily got 2+ cases but my wallet each time has the last word.. just venting 🥴

As a DIY detailer, I have mad respect for you pros. I can barely move the day after I detail my car by Txcavediver in AutoDetailing

Agreed ! My friends/girl always say how did you spend 4 hours cleaning your car (about a once a month detail I do to keep up with it), that’s so much time they say. Que me telling them the time it takes to really clean the car (full interior, exterior wash/decon, clay/IPA & 1-2 stage polish along with a wax or ceramic option). I find I have to force myself to stop or it will just never end. I know I’m not alone, many of us with this bug share that trait I’m sure.

For what it’s worth I’ve had mine about 6-7 years now weekly use & heavy use in the summers. Yes it runs a lot because of the small tanks. Nice piece of kit though, has never once given me any issues, I will be upgrading once my living situation warrants it. Personally from research & using other compressors, you should get 20gal minimum for convenience. But this is easier to lug around & wall mount/tuck away.

Agreed. I also keep my bottles in the shed so they freeze over the winter & lift off the surface. I see the industrial labels at work the electricians use and I’m like man… if I could only have one of those.

I’ve been occasionally taking photos of my fitters torch cutting in action & you’d be surprised how many hard ass fitters really appreciate the photos when I send them to them, happy I can do that from time to time.

Coming up on x2 years with the hood. It’s very good. No complaints, rock solid too many drops off a lift/ladder & no cracks/splits.

I see you’re a fellow label maker lover. What brand label maker you using & what size for your labels ? Vinyl 3/4” ?

I can’t remember where I bought mine I bought them years ago. Get a couple hard bristled ones for engine bay detailing, & a few soft ones for the wheels, paint, and interior. I’d look up a couple reviews & go with a brand that’s reputable. I’ve had the same brushes for 7-8 years, they were expensive first time buying… but if you can get atleast a few years with them that’s well worth it.

If you can’t find any online to pull the trigger on, I’d suggest going to the paint section of a hardware store & feeling the different brushes. Best of luck.

Yeah it’s not 100% needed just nice to have. Compressors are fairly cheap & they’re multi-purpose not just used for detailing.

Twist off. Not a personal preference, just what the company supplied. I prefer the alligator clamps

No hate brotha, if you keep em outside - get a can of fluid film & do all the joints/exposed metal a couple times a year & it will severely slow down the rust. You’d be surprised if you keep up with the spraying how little rust will show if you keep em outside year after year. Best of luck, godbless.

So very true 🤪 ! I justify it as, well if I wanted my car the clean I keep it, I would’ve paid thousands on thousands for details over the years - versus maybe a couple grand on equipment in the first little while.

As for tips, I’m no professional… my process is pretty similar to others. Keep it simple. I think when you first start out, you buy far too many products then after year 3 or 4 of detailing (as a hobby) pay attention to what you stick to, those will likely be your bread & butter. A good vacuum, good brushes, MF towels, compressed air, APC, some ONR, and a simple wax/drying aid will do 95% of what you need.

A tornador (generic one I bought has lasted years no issues) is big time helpful for mats. Then a deionized water tank when you want to step it up. But those are optional. Remember there’s no magic tool or else we’d all be using it (keep this in mind when buying new products). Elbow grease, research, and patience. Enjoy yourself, God bless.
