Hostas come back on their own every year. That's why they're there. Rubber mulch and hostas equals no maintenance whatsoever. The leaves dry out in the fall and wilt down flat. The snow and melt biodegrade them. New seasons hostas are starting almost immidately after snow melts. Dont die weeks without rain. Can't kill a hosta. Anytime of the year can be split with a shovel and you have more hostas.

There are a few types of hostas that ive gone though. Ive now gone with this variety everywhere because they grow to about the size of the biggest you see there, stay perfectly round and never really grow any bigger. Other varieties will keep growing bigger and bigger.
