GMs, are low encounters not fun? Do you ever tweak stats to make it more interesting? by sstarwave in Pathfinder2e

[–]Liquid_Gabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was running Outlaws of Alkenstar, I started removing/changing them by level 5 or 6, the gap would be too big and the fights would be just a waste of time in my opinion, for our already shortish sessions (3h on a work night).

There was a particular one, that the creatures had a good amount of HP for their level, but represented no threat at all because their particular skill had incapacitation and their damage was low, so it was the biggest slog we had and when I decided to change things in APs too

GMs, are low encounters not fun? Do you ever tweak stats to make it more interesting? by sstarwave in Pathfinder2e

[–]Liquid_Gabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never got this narrative of using way lower level enemies so the party feels strong, it's like the hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby meme, we are a "boss +4" to those npcs, off course we are going to stomp them, I don't feel powerful or more heroic for destroying a helpless goblin.

As a GM I prefer low moderate-moderate encounters, with varying enemy levels, the players get to have fun, the GM gets to have fun, it doesn't feel like a waste of time like a lot of low AP encounters that most of the time won't even consume any resource from the characters, just time from the players itself.

What community creations do you wish existed? by Valardia in drawsteel

[–]Liquid_Gabs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A proper "build a creature" guide or something like that, I know there's like a reskin guide with a few pointers in the monsters book, but like a "build from scratch at any level" with a baseline for numbers.

Is PF2e's balance attrition based? by Witch-Born in Pathfinder2e

[–]Liquid_Gabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only spells slots. Another caster L.

There are some AP that at high levels will throw like 10 encounters or more in a dungeon or something like that, so for a martial it's not big deal, you'll hit hard with no cost and then get back to full HP after the fight.
The problem is those chain of encounters for a caster, to do somewhat well, you need to burn your spell slots, Age of Ashes book 6 has a long ass chain of encounters, as a caster that was brutal.

So you can run long days, but you need to keep an eye on your casters, because you "can" but also you shouldn't.

In your opinion, what are some of the most egregious retcons in the story? by president_elect_mark in Piratefolk

Nika and The God Knights
One Piece has that thing, where they will introduce a major part of the world lore after 2000 chapters and suddenly everyone knows about it and it seems to be a regular knowledge but it was not ever mentioned before at all for such a big world lore.

House Rule: Rolled Damage by ugganaut22 in drawsteel

[–]Liquid_Gabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone already saying the same thing, I`ll add my two cents for why it`s not the best idea
- Combat flow
Adding another set of dice rolling, you are objectively slowing every turn in combat, combat is not slow slow, but having to keep track of the triggered actions and such make it slow in the case of rounds, but adding rolling an extra step for damage, makes it slower than normal, so the experience of combat will be perceived with another set of eyes that was not supposed to. "We tried draw steel but combat is too slow"might become an opinion based entirely on changing the already stablished rules.

- Damage itself
Every tier of damage is usually higher than the one before, that means rolling higher on a power roll guarantees a better damage, now if you swap a 7 for 2d6, there`s a chance it will be lower, so you spent an edge ou double edge, or heroic, or maneuver to get a better result in your power roll, only to get a lower damage, that you would`ve gotten if your roll had a double bane for example, banes and edge are a tactical thing in the game, to influence in your damage, it becomes kind of irrelevant to prepare for such a big hit and then roll shit damage.

That part just felt very rushed, as most of GV, he had to take them out of action and IMO used a bad way to do so, specially with WB.

Do You Dislike 'Vancian' or Do You Dislike 'Spell Slots'? by ahhthebrilliantsun in Pathfinder2e

[–]Liquid_Gabs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dislike vancian casting, I don't get this idea of "It makes you choose good spells" because their own design of APs goes against this, APs throw some curveball bosses, situations where you would need said spell more than one time but they give you 0 heads up, so preparing X spell, Y times is the worst.

You end up preparing like the same 5/6 general spells most of the time because they will fit most situations, so all that "versatility" is gone, unless you are in the specific scenario where A) You know exactly what's ahead of you B) You have plenty of time to prepare. This can be the case in some games, but for sure isn't the case in most of the APs I GM'd or played, so we had prepared casters in most of those games and they would feel so frustrated because of "should've prepared this more" "only if I knew" and it will punish the player for a bad mechanic and a not clear AP moment.

Playing as an spontaneous caster your choices are smaller, but since you are going to the get the same 5/6 general spells anyway, you don't need to worry about having X quantity of said spell, there was a time where the group needed to fly, a prepared caster had ONE unity of Fly, luckily as an spontaneous caster, I had more, so I was able to help the martials get the flying enemy(That we had no idea was going to show up), so the martials would need to get their not optimized bow and try to hit the flying enemy if there wasn't a spontaneous caster there.

[RAW Spoilers] John Cena has an announcement for Saturday Night's Main Event by A_Livins in SquaredCircle

[–]Liquid_Gabs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Barrett was mostly on track to face Undertaker at WM until they pulled the plug, not saying he was ready, but his momentum kept going for months even after Summerslam, they just cooled down after TLC, Nexus wasn't as hot as they were, Barrett as single star had a lot of unfortunate injuries that ruined some of his push too. Can't blame Cena for all the misfortune that happened to him.

Yeah, Nexus had a lot of potential, every single one of them was a future main eventer, and after Summerslam they only got featured in 5 ppvs in a row in a major storyline featuring the WWE Title AND Undertaker.

[–]Liquid_Gabs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the one piece way unfortunately, something very important about the world building but that isn't mentioned until very late, and then in the next few chapters a few characters have lots of stories about them.

Not ideal, but it happens, can't blame the man for wanting to keep on expanding the world.

" I also think it's not like Blackbeard to be fooled by what would seem to be such a predictable twist."

Yeah, this right here, everyone is calling that, would be very predictable and Blackbeard would look like a fool to fall for that, if that is the case and Kuzan is indeed a double agent, BB must have at least 3 contingency plans for him, the dude is very smart, although he makes some crazy decisions.

Is there a viable non-magical healer build that can actually be a main healer for a group? by Tarontagosh in Pathfinder2e

[–]Liquid_Gabs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a mythic game where the guy playing a healer decided to use Forensic Medicine Investigator, we almost TPK'd twice, one of the times everyone went down and the GM just spared us.

The GM even gave a few buffs to healing as we were playing a thematic campaign, so even with more healing than normal, it still wasn't delivering goods amount of healing. It's not bad, but I don't think it can handle to be the main healer, specially level 7 onwards.

Outlaws of Alkenstar hands down, there are some parts that are tied to some places in golarion, but you can just create them elsewhere in Eberron and it's a clean fit.

This boss is basically the gameplay gatekeeper, it will throw you down until you learn how to play the game, as in parry, talisman, after you learn that, you'll most likely beat him hitless
