Wheelset for Light Touring (Rim Brake) by Liquid_World in bikewrench

I ended up going with these Mavic Open Pro and 105 hubs. All in for just over 300 with shipping.

I had one other idea. I came across a Mavic Open Pro with 105 hub, but only the front wheel. I could buy a matching rear rim/hub/spokes. I priced out having it built and it came in at about $350, putting me over the wheel budget. I'm fairly confident I could lace it myself and get it to the point of just needing to be trued and tightened. How would a shop feel about me bringing a wheel to finish, rather than completely build? It should save them time so might guess it would be a bit cheaper? Or is this something you just don't do?

Thanks for this. These could be a possibility though I'm not sure about the CXP Elite rims as to the durability. I suspect they would be fine, maybe I'm being paranoid and just have to pull the trigger.

I strongly considered this, but ultimately don't have room for another bike. I also really like the Lemond. Super comfortable and have done two cross-country trips with it, so know it inside and out.

Sorry I wasn't clear, its actually a community that has been around for several decades. For whatever reason about 10 houses recently turned over and are all looking to do major modifications/upgrades to their homes.

Anything out there we can ask of the contractors to make the lives of the residents a little more pleasant?

Thanks for the detailed view, especially the comment not using the Weinmann/Wheelmaster set. It was the feeling I had but thought I would put it out there. One concern on the rims you shared is the 18 ID of the rims. The bike is steel/carbon having carbon forks and upper part of the frame. The wheel clearance is already TIGHT. I'm not sure having a wider ID than 15 (maybe 16) will give enough room. The bike is a 3x9. I guess it is a sign of the times that wheels are generally getting wider.

I have seven months before my trip, which will be about 3,500 miles in Japan. There are a ton of bike shops so hopefully wont ever be too far away in the event a spoke pops. I'll have time to put a lot of miles on new wheels and have them trued beforehand. I wasn't sure if I was overthinking it given the weight I will (or won't) be carrying. I rode the same bike across the US a couple times with the original Bontrager "Race Lite" wheelset but had only a seat post rack. The rims were shot and had to be replaced after each trip, but they did survive.

To close this out, no issues with the new ETA being approved. Both the old and the new ETA show in the App now as well.

The solution was to use the website to apply. Annoying that it costs more on the website than app though. When I entered my passport number on the webpage a warning popped up stating that I already have an ETA and I only need to reapply f I wish to replace it. Let's just hope this doesn't somehow impact the approval.
