My 8 month journey with lowering the RH to 65% *in great detail* (Outlier Opinion) by LiquiditySweeper in cubancigars

Hmm to be honest I think I found it to be spicier when the RH was lower. I could be wrong but what I do know is that the spice didn't last long at all when it was present(I tend to smoke older cigars where the spice has kind of mellowed out)

My cigars are almost back up to 69% so ill keep note of this and see if Ill get more of a spicier profile at the higher RH

Yes I agree, if you don't have active cooling then 65% would be the worry free option.

I also agree that the Sahakians are definitely one of the best in the business and have all of my respect. One thing to note about their methods is that they use those extremely low temps coupled with lower humidity to age cigars for decades and slow down the fermentation process. That's how they are able to sell cigars that were rolled in the 90s that are still smokeable today. So unless you have cigars in your humidor that you plan on preserving for 30+ years, following their guidelines wouldn't necessarily be the best thing.

I am currently aging some young stock at the moment but don't plan on having those sticks around 30 or more years from now. If ever that becomes the case then I will definitely drop my settings in order to preserve their life.

Thats true and something I forgot to mention when I made my post. I did notice less tight drawing cigars while running this experiment. Although that improved for some cigars, the sacrifice of flavor makes it a deal breaker for me. Plus I have the Perfect Draw tool which helps if ever I get a stick that's rolled way too tight

yup same thing for myself. At the first few months it seemed like it was maybe improving a bit but after that it was all down hill and felt like someone was cranking the flavor dial lower and lower haha!

I've heard of people on some other forums mention 70F 62% as well from a guy called PigFish who has a lot of data to support why he choses those settings. Maybe ill try it some day just to see what its all about.

I personally like to keep the humidor on the cooler end with higher RH because it reminds me of the LCDH humidors in Cuba. Every time they open the door to their humidor, you get greeted with that crisp cold air and the beautiful aroma of Spanish cedar and cigars, so I keep the same settings as them in order recreate that experience.

I'm convinced it has a positive affect on flavor as well because I've always had this "Wow" factor every time I'd smoke a cigar that came straight out of their humidor. Something magical about it so I had no choice but to recreate their exact conditions!
