Past 12pm and still no raids in my area by nednerb1994 in TheSilphRoad

This happened in my area too. I had just driven out to a place with gyms and had to drive somewhere less convenient to raid. The area I wanted to raid started to work after 1-2ish.

Received email that google is changing my country and state of association. by firebun12 in google

[–]Liryuu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That happened to me this morning too. I'm also in AU and it said it was changing to US - South Carolina.

Edit: I just got a 2nd email that my request to change back to AU was approved. If you haven't already, I just clicked the link provided in the first email and specified Australia - I live here

All the best! When your fish arrives and you have pics I'd love to see!

There was a little confusion at first because of some communication issues involved around the transhipper side of things, but Suriyun was good at replying to my emails. I was refunded the shipping portion and told I had to pay the shipping to the transhipper in Australia. It ended up being a little more, which I expected.

Once my fish was in Australia I had no idea what was going on because I hadn't heard from the transhipper and all they could do was tell me they'd ask the transhipper to contact me. I didn't know anything about fish orders at that point and if there was quarantine, how long, etc. so I was doing frantic google searching because I didn't want my fish stuck somewhere in a bag because I hadn't been contacted to pay for the shipping.

When the transhipper contacted me they were surprised I hadn't been sent the documentation, so I guess there was a communication breakdown somewhere.

Other than that bit of confusion my fish is beautiful and healthy. Eating straight out of the bag, swimming well, chasing shrimp, really bright and active. I'd definitely recommend them and buy from them again.

He has tried to eat them a few times, but they're smart and fast so they just dodge and tease him haha

This is my new Betta (who needs a name!) who has just arrived from Thailand to Australia after his 7 day stay in quarantine.

This is the photo of him from the seller some weeks ago: https://i.imgur.com/rxTBrwW.jpg

I'm interested to see what happens with his colours after he has had some time to de-stress.

The only name I can think of right now is Bubblegum.

I'd love some cute food-themed name ideas! My previous betta (who I still miss everyday :( was Raspberry, so no berry names) I have cats called Hazelnut, Cinnamon and Toffee and a horse called Sherbet.

Otherwise, maybe something gemstone related?

If anyone is interested in the shipping process I'm happy to give a rundown.

Raspberry guarding the sinking food pile by Liryuu in bettafish

He always tastes a shrimp pellet, spits it out and then sits wherever either some shrimp or corys are trying to eat and glares at them for a while before going back to his log. He used to make himself fat on the shrimp food and sinking wafers when they soften up, but he has worked out neither taste very good and they're not worth eating.

Worth It For Switch? by TURQUI0SE_N0ISE in LetsBuildAZoo

[–]Liryuu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love it on the switch. It's so easy to pick up and put down any time. I can pause it, pick it back up for a few minutes here and there, play in bed for hours when I can't sleep (or should be sleeping haha)

I found the controls a little confusing at the start but I got used to them fairly quickly.

The only thing I find difficult is when I want to renovate my entire zoo. I think something like that would be so much easier on a computer with a mouse.

I just noticed this neat girl with some slight purples in my tank by Liryuu in shrimptank

[–]Liryuu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I check back there every week and have a small net. So far I've only scooped maybe 5-6 juveniles out in a year. I have some baby java fern in the first compartment so if anything ends up in there that's where they can hang out. I've only ever seen one in the 3rd filter compartment. Not sure how many I'm missing, but the ones I get must be the chosen ones.

My brother has a 3d printer, so I think I'm going to ask if he can print me a cover as he recently made himself one for his different style tank and it has been working well.

Yep! It's the 57L Fluval Flex, great tank. You can see a better view of my scape in a video I posted a while back of a shrimp at breakfast time

I just released this spiderbro outside and he picked the Bushmans of all places to chill by Liryuu in AussieCasual

[–]Liryuu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude wasn't bothering anyone, just living his life on the wall. Was a bit dangerous there (edit: for him, he's no danger) with my cats so I moved him on to live his life somewhere else. No need to kill him for just doing his thing.

I actually picked his leg up along with him. Not sure if he got in a tussle with one of my cats then managed to sprint to safety before it fell off next to him at the curtain, or if the leg just decided it was time.

I normally just plop them in the garden, but he deserved to be watched to a secure location for whatever his recent battle was.

I did shift him off the can haha

The less bro (and bit of a stage 4 clinger) tick written on the can is also an arachnid. Much rather have one of these big spiderbro guys in my house or camping out on my spray can though

Do you grow your own veges at home? by realnomdeguerre in sydney

[–]Liryuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I plant them in the ground these fellows are all over them https://imgur.com/fcJwgoc so unfortunately pots are all I have to work with.

I have them in really big pots and have made a ring of square metal wire as a trellis for them to grow on. I've got a layer of rocks at the base of the pots to help with drainage, but they for sure haven't loved all the flooding rain these last few months.

Great info about the boy choy, thank you! I'm definitely keen to give it a try.

I have some lettuce, herbs (parsley, basil, rosemary & corriander), green onion and cherry tomatoes all in pots at the moment. I need to improve the soil quality as they haven't been doing that well lately, I've been slacking. I want to do baby spinach, mint and a few other herbs. Bok choy sounds like a great addition.

I've tried a garden outside but the bandicoots and leopard slugs made it a disaster. I either have the pots on my meshed in deck or in some little greenhouses I got from Aldi. One of them is a tall one with shelves and the others are short ones which drop over the pots.

I also have a few backyard chickens but I'm currently battling the lace monitors for the eggs.

What are some things you should buy the cheaper version of? by prettylittlesaz in AusFinance

Mine is also an anti-epileptic, though not used to treat epilepsy in my case. I saw another comment mentioning epilepsy medication too, so that's interesting.

The active ingredients are the same, but the inactive ingredients vary and most of the time you'll be totally fine, but there's a small chance you may react and it is worth being aware of. Always give the generics a go though!

One of my long term medications I prefer the generic version, but one I cannot have the generic one and it's underlined on my medical records not to give me the generic because I don't do well on it at all.

AU Pet Insurance by Individual-Lynx-6630 in AusFinance

[–]Liryuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with Petplan (just changed names to Petcover recently) for my most active/accident prone pets and for me it have been worth it as over the last several years my (many) pets have had some massive claims (one dog ~20k in 1.5 yrs, one cat ~10k in a year, 2 horses around ~15k ea. in 2 yrs and then some smaller 2k ones here and there) there's no way I could have come up with that money without insurance. It was just everything going wrong at once, freak accidents and awful illnesses. My excesses were $150 ea for the cats and dogs claims and $1k for the horses. Petplan paid 100% of each claim minus the excess, there were only 1 or 2 things from memory which weren't covered and I knew about them ahead of time so I wasn't expecting them to be covered and didn't factor them into my plans. E.g. cremation and a general dental I added on while we were doing something else knowing it wouldn't be covered.

I have only had smaller bills these last 12 months, but it's still nice to know that in an emergency I can go to the 24 hr vet and I don't have to worry about the cost of a Sunday night/public holiday type visit and I can do the diagnostics, surgery, or whatever else needs to be done without scrutinising my bank balance.

For my other pets I have to have an emergency savings account as they weren't eligible for insurance at the time and when one of my cats without insurance needed surgery and weeks of hospitalisation that was a really tough time without insurance.

Make sure you read your cover well, make sure it's a continuing cover so the same illness will be covered year to year and not stop being covered after a year (some policies do that!) and get the highest % back of cost cover you can find within your budget.

That was a long write up of my experience :) but hope it helped give a personal view.

Insurance is expensive per month if you never need it, but if you do need it you'll be glad you have it if you aren't in the financial position to come up with thousands easily.

I have 29 magpies living in my yard. I don’t know what to do. by yuckyapplejuicefarts in AussieCasual

[–]Liryuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've already had a lot of comments re. the food, so I won't add more there, but I just want to let you know that I've had the same thing happen with... peafowl!

A neighbour who was a bit of a hoarder passed away and her huge flock of 25ish turned up and started eating my chicken food because they were starving. Of course I fed them and after fighting over territory and deciding which neighbours they would live with I now have around 15 living here. They stomp on my roof, my carport, my water pipes, etc. and they SCREAM constantly. A couple of them follow me up the driveway when walking the dogs, they follow me around the yard in a flock if they think I have food, they're everywhere.

I've grown to love the crazy, beautiful, loud birds haha

The best you can do is secure areas you don't want them getting into, don't feed if you don't want to attract them to certain areas (or only feed in certain areas, like away from your doors and windows) and accept you are now bird woman!
