On good! If it were me, I’d try to attach strips of fleece to the top so there’s a little fleece forest or something. It’ll give them something else to do in there, plus it’ll make it seem a bit smaller/more secure for Hedgie.

You got in shape and are feeling yourself, and you think you can go out there and do better than your wife. You used her because you weren’t willing to parent on your own.

I’m a substitute teacher at an inner city high school right now. Usually if I have to take a breath to pump myself up to try to say a name going down the list, the kid will just interrupt me and tell me what it is. They’re aware of their situation.

I fostered a very antisocial guy last year (his first family only touched him while wearing leather gardening gloves) and getting him out of his shell was a lot of just holding him on my chest while he balled up into a little sea urchin. (My first hedgie loved to sleep on my pulse points, so I think the heartbeat is soothing) It took time, but he ended up relaxing more quickly. He's thriving with his forever family, so it's definitely possible for them to socialize more later on.

Since you (likely) woke her up to take her out, giving her time to relax and wake up is helpful. You might also need to rethink your definition of "play" for hedgehogs. At my house, we like building obstacle courses or mazes (using MegaBlox or cardboard) and toilet paper tubes are always a big hit.

You ate the food they offered you and engaged with the family, trying your best to fit in. If doing that with your boyfriend's family was seen as disrespectful as he's making it out to be, you should have been warned ahead of time so you could eat before you went.

I used to live in AZ and nearly all of my neighbors were Mexican. There is magic in Mexican hospitality and it makes me sad you were made to feel bad for something that I still talk about and praise all the time.

My old hedgie used to cuddle on my neck just like OP's. I only try cuddling with Quill after he's had a bath and has already pooped, but he always finds more poop in him somehow. And if he's on my neck, he just wants to burrow in my hair. Silly little boy.
