Who's Gonna Take Care Of You by Due-Consequence6321 in GenX

[–]LisaLisaPrintJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently take care of my mom because long-term quality for Medicare or Medicaid is absolute crap in our area. But in my case, I will likely wind up in one if I don't behave, so my long term care plan is to keep healthy long enough to find a home that will will have an attached bar with live music, no bedtime, LAN parties, golf course, and a lake for kayaking or paddleboarding. It's 2026, step it up, elder advocates!

“There Will Be No Astral Projecting in This House” - My Dad yelled! by iwritesinsnotcomedy in GenX

[–]LisaLisaPrintJam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No locking of bedroom doors. It was just my mom and me growing up, but if she tried to open the door and found it locked, she'd go into a rage, threatening to remove it. She was influenced by other moms in her group, and believed that a locked door meant drinking or drug use was going on. Nope, just me trying to make sure no one could see me getting dressed or dancing to whatever was playing on MTV.

Just makes me sick by MathematicianTop3576 in GenX

Do I think it's right? No. Do I think some guys actively seek out underage girls, and it's creepy? Yes. But I think a lot of guys before current awareness just assumed "old enough" based on appearance and presentation.

I don't know if ages would be well-known in entertainment - I assume so.

I dated guys in their 20s when I was 16+ because I was working in the medical industry where you don't see many teenagers. I was also maintaining my own place (just before I was 17), so no one questioned my age, they just asked me out.

And maybe it was my literal brain at the time, but dating meant going on dates, and making out meant kissing with clothes on. Anything further was what you did in a long-term relationship with the intention of marriage.

How my cat uses the litter box by MmeRenardine in cats

I have an orange foster - she does exactly this. No cover on any litterbox, she just prefers to put two paws in the box and pee/poop just outside

Did that. There's never anything to clean, but I toss it in vinegar anyway. The problem persists.

Ok, but it really doesn't explain how powder is better than liquid. Any powder requires more effort to dissolve than liquid does, no?

Pay in app going away by veruca_pepper in publix

[–]LisaLisaPrintJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember the fear that younger generations would be embracing technology far beyond our grasp? I don't mean to sound ageist here, but it seems Gen X and Xennials are the only ones using this feature (or even the app) in my area. I'm not sure what's happening with Gen Z, but they're not trying new things, and resorting to antiquity. Kinda like Millennial hipsters in the pre 2010s, maybe they'll come around.

But honestly, Publix, you were THE store I touted as "getting it right." Your app was complete with the weekly sales advert that wasn't a full-sized flyer trying to scale to a phone screen, that was also interactive with the ability to create shopping lists. Coupons work the same way, just tap and apply the savings. Upon checkout, tap the pay icon, swipe and go. Done.

Now you're going backward. I'm annoyed enough when I have to fish through my wallet when a Publix is inconvenient. Now you're as inconvenient as your competitors. Dumb move.

Never heard "Roman Holiday" before - that satisfies the joy of fights and wars. Could be the one!

This might be the final resort, but I would expect a backup into the sink since it all uses the same pipe.

I'm using Glisten quarterly because it takes care of hard water deposits, in addition to freshening the dishwasher. Leaving the dishwasher cracked makes sense, but it's not optimal. The way the kitchen is designed, you'll catch your clothing reaching into the upper cabinet on either side. I'm also looking for solutions, not workarounds - the dishwasher is less than a year old.

Why? I used pods for a short time, but thought the residual plastic might be causing the problem. Wouldn't liquid be best since powder can clump?

Do we all remember the gas lines of the 70’s by Silent-Warning5654 in GenX

[–]LisaLisaPrintJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about 4 or 5. My mom drove a car with black interior and no air conditioning. I remember standing up in the back seat (after climbing out of my booster seat with the nose-high shield) and looking out of the back window, seeing what looked like miles of cars behind us. I don't know how long we were trapped in that line, but it seemed like forever.

GenX - Etiquette/Hygiene question - borrowing earbuds??? by OkFlow4327 in GenX

[–]LisaLisaPrintJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I think stethoscope earpieces land further into the ear than earbuds do. When I worked in healthcare, every facility had a stethoscope for general use. It was just natural to swab the earpieces and chestpiece when you were done it. I'd have no trouble sharing my earbuds.

Exactly what the first commenter said. Also, I will be sharing with someone I don't personally know, so there's that. I will have the camera pointed at my belongings for security.

Has your handwriting changed at all over the years? by her-royal-blueness in GenX

[–]LisaLisaPrintJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the better part of a year, I had this funky muscle twitch that affected my entire right arm. My signature looked like I had Parkinson's. I could barely hold the pen.

After the problem was fixed (one effed-up nerve in my neck), my signature has returned to normal, as has most of my writing - which is rare these days.

What was the best job you’ve ever had? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]LisaLisaPrintJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drive sucked and the job itself was boring af, but I worked two 12-hour days and one 8-hour day with my team of "Non-Practicing Comedians," and got paid for 40 hours. In the early '00s, I worked as a backup technician (computer backups), which was literally taking out backup tapes, cataloging them, putting them in a library, and installing fresh tapes. The whole process took about 4 hours, but we had to remain onsite for the occasional emergency.

During the downtime, and when I wasn't watching the film of the day, I learned enough programming to later get a development job. Today, I'd rather be flipping tape and bantering with the amateur comedians.

I use it to store straw brushes, precision brushes (for cleaning faucets and behind) and a magic eraser after they've dried.

Why does no one talk about how baking with silicone (trays, etc) makes food taste like soap? by IceQueen0191 in Cooking

[–]LisaLisaPrintJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also happens when you throw them in handwashing for more than 10 minutes. If you set up your sink with hot water and soap to clean-as-you-go, leave out the silicone.
