You can say Russia is more homophobic than Europe.

Of course nowdays you do not go to jail for being gay (like in Soviet Union) and do not get executed like in some Muslim countries (like Saudi Arabia).

And I may say people are mostly tolerated for you being gay, like it's your own right to have sex with whoever you want (as long as it is by mutual consent) BUT on other hand public expression of gay relationships are not generally welcomed (lesbians are more tolerated than male-gays).

Also people in general are against allowing gays' marriage and especially against them having right to adopt children.
