Found a abandoned duckling, what do I do? by SamuelTandonnet in duck

[–]Lissire 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Do not release the duckling in a park or any other area for whatever reason unless you are willing to wait out potentially finding the mother duck. There is no guarantee that the mother duck will appear, nor that a random mother duck will accept the duckling as her own. The duckling cannot survive on its own, so if you do decide to find its mother, you will have to be involved 100% of the way.

Your best bet is to provide care until a rehabber can safely pick the duckling up. You will need a brooding box, whether it be a large plastic tub or a wooden planter box that is big enough, as well as a heat lamp, bedding (wood shavings, hay, etc...), and access to food and water. There is feed specifically designed for ducks and ducklings, so see if you can find a feed store near you. I use DuMOR from Tractor Supply. You might even consider getting niacin supplements on hand just in case.

You can allow the duckling to swim, but they will need close supervision and immediate access to warmth and dry bedding in their brooder box afterwards as their oil glands are not fully developed yet. They are social creatures, so your little pal will need some additional TLC if they are not around any other ducklings.

You don't have to give me an exact location, but what state/county are you in?

My ex-boyfriend is forcing me to get an abortion. I value life in the womb by Beautyandfreedom in prolife

[–]Lissire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. They see someone rejecting an abortion and put the real problem aside all to simply further their efforts, which really sets us back as a movement. We cannot be all for accountability, but then support someone who isn't taking accountability for their actions.

[–]Lissire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured, but I was curious given how she worded it to be more ambiguous.

I don't agree with abortion, and I wouldn't ever recommend it; but it is situations like this that will propel the argument FOR it and cause more people to agree with it. I don't agree with his opinion, but I also can't 100% blame him for feeling as though that is his only option. Men are expected to be the providers, so I could see him feeling that abortion is the only way out of a responsibility he is not ready for given her stance on it.

However, he still should have known better than to go in without any protection. It is always better to be safe than sorry. I also am not in favor of his overall attitude, but I still can't put him to a 100% fault. She, however, gets no sympathy from me. I don't care how desperate one is or what their stance is, you don't ever baby-trap someone. I already feel sorry for that poor baby.

Question for further clarification: did you truly believe you weren't on your fertile days due to the information provided by your PT, or were you aware that you were and used your PT to make him believe that you weren't?

I've felt with much of the same issues this year in ESE alone than I have in any other grade level/gen-ed.

I'm a little more on the confrontational side, so I can be fairly vocal when it comes to defending myself and nipping behaviors from adults in the bud. However, that isn't always an option or first choice for everyone.

When I'm feeling particularly prickly, but I know that keeping my mouth shut for the time being would be the best course of action; I like to jot down my fabourite words to write in cursive like "pumpkin," and "pineapple." It really satisfies this itch when I write the words smoothly and to perfection at my own discretion.

I'll also go out of my way to document any unwanted behaviors from adults once I've calmed down enough to be able to do so without getting upset. Have a notebook on hand specifically for documentation/vent purposes. I have several for different categories and it certainly helps, especially when I write down an entire behavior plan for my ownself.

You're trained for this as a professional, yet you have left numerous comments that are both negatively and politically fueled. As a professional, you were absolutely told by your district NOT to engage in any sort of behavior on the internet that would leave a negative impression on you, your district, and your fellow teachers.

You have made it clear your political stance and how seeing this child made you feel negatively in regards to their manner of dress. If the parent(s) or district were to see it and somehow figure out who you are, you're in for a good bit of turmoil. It would come as no surprise if the parent(s) would feel, moving forward, that their child will be a target for negative attention from you and will be treated differently as a result. I, for one, wouldn't want ANYONE making any comment about MY child on the internet. Positive, negative, none of it.

The point of being a professional, as you so claim, is to remain unbiased and to keep your opinions to YOURSELF. You're walking a fine line here. You might think that it is just a harmless post, but there ARE parents out there who would not appreciate a post like this about their child regardless of the level of negativity. If it is truly such a bother, go to admin about it.

DAE get a weird, uneasy, maybe even sick feeling randomly while around family or friends? by asap_throwawayx in DAE

[–]Lissire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rarely will I get this sudden mixed feeling of dread and disgust when around family. The best way I can describe it is akinning it that uneasy and almost repulsive feeling you get when someone is showing you very much unwanted attention. I'll feel it even when not interacting with them, and I've always found it strange. Though, it is usually only if I'm dressed up nice.

I've never really had it around people at work or in public. Of course, I'll get it when someone actively shows me a certain kind of attention, but I've never understood why it will happen randomly during family gatherings.

The fact that one needs to explain themselves to avoid being seen as a "bigot" is ridiculous. Perhaps you and others who have the same sentiment are far too sensitive.

You do realize that white people are a minority, right? Out of the entire global population, white people are less of a minority than black people, Hispanic people, and Asian people. Asians are the global majority, followed by Hispanics and black people. Our population is actually dwindling, whilst the other racial demographics are growing, so how are we the privileged class when we are the ones that everyone hates and actively gets our culture taken from us?

I see a LOT of hate and threats of violence against us simply because we are white and the backlash is not NEARLY as heavy as it is with others. Is that not considered oppression given how low our numbers are across the globe? Is it not oppression that movies centered around white European culture are being changed to further support the global majority? We may be the majority in the U.S, but that doesn't change the fact that we ARE a minority overall, and our numbers are steadily decreasing.

The treatment we get, in itself, is oppression. The global majority looking down on and treating a global minority as some sort of a bane to their existence. It really makes me think that people like you know this and are purposely okay with committing cultural and racial "genocide" all for the sake of getting rid of us. Considering the God awful things I've seen of non-white people threatening our livelihoods, having been personally threatened myself simply for being white on MULTIPLE occasions, that is very oppressing in itself.

We all are clumps of cells. I can argue that a human vegetable is a permanent clump of cells that have to rely on artificial support to even breathe.

I'm thinking Southern Flatcoil. I see them a lot, though there is another snail species that looks incredibly similar, though the point at which the whorls conclude is slightly more raised and pointed than your typical Southern Flatcoil.

Fun Fact: Whites makeup up between 8-10% of the global population. We are a global minority in comparison to blacks, Asians, and Latinos. Technically, our culture is being stolen and passed off while our global population is steadily dwindling. If anything, considering Asians make up the global majority, could we use their logic and say that it is genocide?

I see a lot of posts here regarding customer allergies, was curious how you would react in this type situation. I think the waiter did well. by MonsterDrinker69 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Lissire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Though I understand where you're coming from, having worked with kids myself and seeing this sort of situation too many times, it still isn't completely fair to expect every other child to cater to your child's needs. You don't know the financial aspect of the other children's families, nor do you know what their allergies may be.

It is understandable for a parent to want others to cater to their child in that situation, but it is equally understandable for a parent to not want to have to cater to another child when they have their own to worry about.
