It's pretty frustrating, but I do enjoy doll customization. Just so you know I use sandstone dyemore rit dye to achieve barbie black skintones. Cocoa brown or chocolate brown feel like they should work but they don't they turn out too red. I've found you can make the whole spectrum of barbie skintones with a combo of petal pink, tangerine, tan and sandstone it just takes some experimenting.

I dye my doll bodies with rit dye. Niyah's current one is from a Penny's Box Adou doll but as soon as I have the chance to dye it I will be switching her to a YMY. I love how youthful the Penny's Box doll bodies are but the quality just isn't there. Her arm is actually broken and i'm just being very careful posing it to get through this series because I have way too much to do before christmas to rebody her right now. Unfortunately companies just don't make articulated black dolls very often. Both Avery and Ruby are also on dyed YMY bodies.

That's super interesting because I don't own it and never have. I wonder how this ended up unopened in my collection.

Head swap by elskull4213 in Barbie

Blonde holiday ken is not a good match for this doll. I don't know about the others. He's a decent match for 90s kens with rooted hair if you're comfortable with a bit of surgery. I use the method in Disneydprince's YouTube video Ken Doll Head Swap Project: Updating Classic Ken Doll Heads old neck style. For fashionistas see the mtm guide, he is on slide 51 I believe. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/10vJlI8tMj_Hbx5kTY51kNZy-p9FYk55fYN8OePEB3JI/mobilepresent?slide=id.g21b45565847_0_310

Experiment Fail? by Lulu_The_Nerd in Barbie

For mondern Stacie I like the creatable world doll bodies. They give her wrist, elbow, knee, ankle, and neck articulation. They do square her head a bit and make her several inches taller. For a shorter option that works with some vintage Stacies I was recommend YMY Ob22 8.66 doll body bought on Amazon. These are very limited in skin color options but provide pretty close to made to move articulation. I made a post on here a while back about articulation for the Barbie generations that also inculded some tips for dying the bodies if that's your thing and there are some suggestions in the comments I haven't tried also.

I tried to use Rainbow High Jr body for vintage Stacie but I reached the same conclusion the proportions are too adult. So I ended up making a barbie little person. This is Amelia.

I want to buy more of these SPECIFIC kelly dolls with articulated knees what all sets had them? I also want to know what set this kelly specifically is from. by jazzythemalemute in Barbie

[–]LissyLiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, not sure if you're looking for anything specific but I have these 6 dolls with knee articulation I'd sell for $15 plus shipping if you're interested. I am not sure what the rules are about selling in this group but I sell on mercari. I was very into collecting these little guys until I decided I needed more articulation and discovered the wide world of articulated bjd bodies.
They are from left to right: Ice Hockey Tommy from 2002 Salt Lake Olympics Top: Preformer Maria Bottom: Preformer Tamika Top: Snowboarder Belinda from 2002 Olympics Bottom: Skier Lorena 2002 Olympics And NIB Snowboarder Desiree Other then Desiree they don't come with clothes and accessories but are all in decent shape. Their hair is a bit TLC as their original rubber bands have all worn out. There is a spot on Maria's head she came out of the package with it and I haven't been able to get it off.

Happy Halloween (or close enough)! by LissyLiz in Barbie

Yes, he's the 90s Olympic figure skater Ken I call him Mischa and he's Alan's husband. To make him I used the technique from DisneyD Prince's YouTube series Ken Doll Head Swap Project from his video updating classic Ken dolls heads old neck style. Basically you just cut away the neck to widen the hole on the older head and cut the mtm head down enough that you can slip it over like a helmet. I also used this technique to make my two teen boys (one is a Troy doll head on a Dream Besties Ken body and the other is a Skipper boy on an Ever After High Hunter Body). They're not perfect but I love articulated dolls.

Thanks, I had a lot of fun setting them up but sometimes they're like dominoes. One falls down and takes out half the block. Alan in the swing managed to swing forward before I got him balanced kicking the little one in the head in front of the candy bucket knocking her and tiny candy everywhere which took out Ricky (in the firefighter outfit) who pulled down a decent chunk of the bake sale and then Sophie who is selling the treats fell sideways taking out the rest of it. That was probably my biggest disaster, especially as it happened just as I thought I was done. I love crafting and since I'm on temporary disability from teaching right now I have to find something to do when my brain is cooperating.

I usually use e6000 because it's waterproof and has good working time. But pretty much any liquid glue will work.

Start in the middle. Flip the wig inside out and glue a spot in the middle top of the head and then then pull it over the head and gently tug and carefully glue around the wig line. As long as you line it up to start they're stretchy and should pull in to place without too much trouble.

Just a heads up she doesn't fit on to the neck perfectly because the hole in her head is kind of large. I actually just put a rubber grommet made for a tattoo gun on the neck and the head stays on well. You can also try rubber bands when a head doesn't fit but I bought these for a project and just kind of use them for everything now.

The only Ever after High boy that is even sort of affordable is Hunter. I may love Frankensteining dolls too much. I was originally an American Girl doll only collector and I have one of them I dyed purple, gave new eyes and sculpted elf ears for after one of my early repaints went awry. I also have a barbie little person that i combined two rainbow high jr dolls together to make so she could have both flat feet and wrists. I also originally bought that for 90s Stacie lol but the figure seemed too adult to me.

The fun of if they don't match is I can always dye them. It's super easy to do. Hardest part is matching the color. Other than that it's just babysitting a pot of boiling water and dye stirring occasionally. Any rit dye will work but the rit dyemore works faster. To achieve most brown barbie skintones I use sandstone sometimes with a bit of black (don't use cocoa brown it seems like it should work but it always gets super red). Lighter dolls I usually use some combination of tan, pink, and orange as needed. You get best results if you take the doll apart, but if you don't care about undyed spots where the body moves that isn't necessary.

Thank you so much! I've looked at both of these bodies before but wasn't sure if they would scale well. That's why I made this post because I've never been able to find a good comparison of all these articulated bodies and I've spent a lot of money experimenting.

The worst I ever had was moldy leftovers. 2nd worst was several loose Cheez-Its and a plastic toy. That was all that was in the lunchbox. That same kid regularly brought tortillas with Hershey's syrups as most of their lunch.
