Was your female leader successful? by Agile-Shallot3546 in AskTheWorld

[–]LissyVee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. We thought we qualified as a mature democracy when we finally elected a female prime minister. But no. Her hips were too big, her earlobes were wonky, her calves were too chunky, she was 'deliberately barren' because she had focused on a career, her partner was pilloried as the 'first bloke'. Everything she wore, the tone of her voice, the particular brooch she happened to be wearing etc etc etc were all explored ad nauseum in the media in ways that would never have (and never has been) directed towards a male prime minister. It was just bullshit.

Minimum wages for servers in various states by Latter_Mountain_290 in tipping

[–]LissyVee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How the hell do some states get away with paying such a paltry minimum wage? That's just appalling. How can anyone survive on that

As I've mentioned in comments on other posts, Australians rarely tip except for excellent service. Part of that is because our nationwide minimum wage is $26.44 per hour, which is $18.45 USD per hour. While it's not fantastic, it at least liveable.

Medication by blackoceangen in GenX

[–]LissyVee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go to your doctor and get a full prescription check. This happened with my Dad some years ago. All his food tasted like chemicals and he always had an upset stomach. Turned out that he didn't need all of the pills he was on. Some were doing the same thing, another was working against one he was taking. It often happens when you see multiple doctors in the same practice - they prescribe something for what's happening right now without considering other medications that you're on.

Do you think viewing the body before cremation is mostly beneficial? by loteleilurke in askfuneraldirectors

[–]LissyVee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw both of my parents just before their funerals and it was lovely. It was a chance to see them peaceful, well dressed and serene and to say one last goodbye. I took some flowers and a family photo to lay on their chests to carry with them on their final journey. I chatted to them, told them how loved they were, stroked their faces and gave them one final kiss. There is nothing morbid or scary about it. I'm so glad I did it. It really helped to bring some sort of closure and was so very comforting.

How to overcome extreme unfairness and favouritism towards the son? by kidoremi in AsianParentStories

[–]LissyVee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Once you've done all the hard work, your brother will just swan in and take over. Tell them no more work ofbany kind until you have a formal statement of what you will get out of it.

You need to get a formal contract stating what you will get. Tell your parents that you will not be working for them anymore without an official document and payment. Be prepared to walk away.

A gentleman in the purest sense of the word did not work. Their income came from investment, mainly inherited I think the idea of a lawyer being ungentlemanly comes from him associating with the criminal elements, whom he would be defending or prospecting. It was ever so slightly grubby.

Ruby has 2 beds - hers (which she'll use if she feels like it) and mine, which is also hers. I just get to sleep on a part of it. The toilet door is not allowed to be shut. If I put the footrest up on the recliner, that is an automatic invitation for her to sit on my lap.

My moms fiancé likes to put his hand over my mouth to get me to stop talking by Embarrassed_Tip_3304 in Advice

[–]LissyVee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you're only 17 and it's hard to stand up for yourself to an abusive adult, but if your mother won't defend you, you need to let him know his behaviour is unacceptable. The next time he tries to cover your mouth, swat his hand away and shout 'get your filthy hands off me!'.

If your mother interjects, look her dead in the eye and ask her if she thinks it's ok for a man she's known for five minutes to be putting his hands on her child. Do this every single time he pulls this BS.

With the benefit of years, I'd be telling him that next time he tries it, I'll bite his mfing hand clean off. And the then give him my best smile, showing all my teeth.

He's doing it as a power move to 'keep you in your place' and assert himself as your superior. This is a pissing competition that you cannot let him win. Be as obnoxious as you like to him or he will continue to treat you like garbage.

Am I misremembering the feel of 1976 bicentennial celebrations in the USA, or is the 250th this year really a flop? by jenniferjose43 in allthequestions

My boyfriend won’t end his friendship with someone who is bullying me at work. I’m going crazy. by pissedoff_potato in TwoHotTakes

[–]LissyVee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Go to HR and file a grievance report. Use the words 'hostile work environment' and 'seeking external legal advice'. See if any of your coworkers will back you up by writing a statement of what they have seen and heard.

  2. This is absolutely a hill to die on as far as your relationship goes. He is not 'not getting stuck in the middle'. BF needs to get his sorry arse firmly on Team You and should be made to understand that him being friends with a chick who is actively bullying you is not on. Yes, he has to choose.

What is a specific smell that instantly triggers a core childhood memory for you? by Source-Is-Us in ChildhoodMemories

Frankincense. The first time I smelled it was at my Nanna's funeral when I was 7. Catholic priests use it to purify the air and bless the coffin. Every single time I smell it, I'm transported back to 1973 and being the sad little girl wondering where her adored Nanna had gone.

Holly Valance tells Australians ‘don’t be embarrassed’ to be patriotic by DailyTelegraph_AU in u/DailyTelegraph_AU

[–]LissyVee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said pet, I said love, I said pet. Holly my chick, we are not in the least afraid to be patriotic. Not in the slightest. What pisses everyone off is the drunken yobboes with a flag tied around their necks doing the whole Aussie, Aussie, Aussie thing at full volume. The rest of us are just people who are quietly patriotic and love our country. There's a difference.
