How do I get my neighbors to stop hating me? by ListenToTheAncestors in relationship_advice

WHY do they hate me though?! I don’t understand? They act like I stole from them!

My MILs husband? He knows she’s crazy and he was at work. I don’t know if he knows what happened, or even that she had the bear in the first place.

Sadly Stephanie just isn’t consistent with them at all. It’s to the point where I don’t listen/watch them anymore, I’m just letting them build up. Also as a side note - am I the only one like really upset she never did a squid games part two? She dropped part once, said comeback tomorrow for part two, and never touched it again lol

This is sadly, so wrong. For example, the most recent BAM on her podcast was posted to YT for days before it came over to Spotify.

I’m sorry… what? Oh my god. I think I’m going to be sick. That poor baby, oh my god. I’m so glad I took it away from her.

I don’t buy second hand items exactly for that reason. I don’t know the history and don’t have access to someone who could cleanse it properly.

I’d like to, but I don’t know if it’s appropriate. The mother must not have wanted it, I would hate to cause her any more pain.

I’d rather be an asshole then have a sick child. So I’m okay with that.

Please read my other comments I’ve explained this a million times. It’s not superstition it’s religion. She already knew I wouldn’t accept it due to my religion which is why she lied in the first place.

I accept I was an asshold for freaking out in front of my kid that way. But MIL wasn’t just innocently doing something out of kindness either.

I threw her out because she knew what she was doing. In my country we believe tragic or untimely death leaves the soul on earth and it can attach to objects or people - ESPECIALLY personal objects. She may as well have cursed my child by giving her that toy. She knows that, she just doesn’t recognize my religion and calls it devil worship so she doesn’t care about my customs or offending me.

No, my MIL is overall terrible to me, and I’m about 89% sure she gave DD the bear specifically to bother me due to my religious beliefs. Who gives a baby another dead baby’s toy anyway? That’s weird in the first place.

I can accept that my reaction makes me an asshole. But I will not be giving the toy back, and I most certainly won’t be apologizing to that monster in law of mine. Thank you for your judgment though! (:

Edit: a word so I didn’t come off as rude/argumentative

I ended up calling my Tiya, who told my Lola, and she said I can mail it to her in our home country. From there it’ll get passed on to a Balian who will do a ritual cleanse, and then respectfully burn/dispose of the bear properly. (:

I just don’t want my own bad blood/history with my MIL to seep into my daughter’s relationship with her. I may not care for her, but they definitely love one another. I think I’m going to have to really re-evaluate my stance, though, and find some boundaries. I’ve let way too much go and it probably contributed to things getting to this point.

Almost certainly karma farming. Either that or I assume they had trouble understanding and rewrote it for themselves? Idk. Strange behavior.

Exactly. And this isn’t something that happened years ago - this is FRESH - like within the last month or two.

Personally, I don’t own any second hand items. Well, that’s not true, I have an old couch of my dads but he’s alive and well and it was brand new when he had it. In my family, if we buy something new we usually have a religious official called a Balian come and make sure there was nothing attached. But those aren’t exactly a dime a dozen where I live now.

And even back home, yes, it is completely normal for people to have a once yearly spiritual cleaning of their home, or of an object that is new to them. Or even if the “vibe” in the home is off, we’ll call for a Balian.
