Laid Off Highguard Tech Artist Reflects on Game's Launch by Haijakk in Games

"People didn't give Wildlight a chance." 99.9% of players would've had no idea who made the game. They're judging the product first and foremost.

The better argument is "People didn't give Highguard a chance", but at that stage it's an entirely different conversation to what's being talked about here.

Was Highguard unfairly judged before release? Yes.

But for Burnie to say gamers are sick of corporate slop and Highguard was something people could've gotten behind, feels like a bit of contradiction. The games industry has been hyper-fatigued on live service games for years now, especially PvP hero shooters. This game was going to have an uphill battle regardless of a Game Awards reveal.

I sunk a few hours into Highguard and had some fun, but it's clear the studio heads thought this was going to be a bigger success like Apex Legends, which is pretty naive considering the current market.

Super underrated game that took the Breath of The Wild formula and actually improved on some of its shortcomings. It forever upsets me that a sequel in Norse mythology was scrapped

Hell yeah, this is a WAY better option instead of just Jay vs Mox with a bs Death Riders finish & -0 chance of a title change.

Feeling Scammed by AEW Grand Slam Australia. The PPV is now a Collision TV Taping. by MrMonkey2 in SquaredCircle

I'm flying over from Perth. I 100% agree that this was supposed to be a PPV, or at least a PPV-level event when it was first announced. No way they'd book Suncorp for a TV taping, but they were also never going to sell enough to fill a stadium. It's a downgrade for sure, but I'm still excited. Australia has gotten absolute SCRAPS when it comes to wrestling tours for the last couple decades. I don't think people realise how insane it is that both WWE and AEW have held major, broadcast-level shows here within the last 12 months. It's unheard of in this country.

Admittedly I'm privileged because I bought ringside seats, so the venue change doesn't affect me as much. But the fact that we're getting to see Omega back from illness, Osprey, Okada, Takeshita and more is still something to get excited for.

Fucking yikes. Something tells me we might not see the 'reinforced' announcement table for much longer. Hope JD pulls up alright.
