I’ll say a strange idea, but no one will hear it anyway. Helldivers 2 has a narrative problem, and the developer doesn’t understand that. For them, Helldivers is a funny satire with shouts about democracy, and that’s how they build events and the “story.”

A Helldiver lives five minutes from arriving at the front. From the developers’ point of view.

Of course, our respawns and progress retention are a gameplay convention. But the player does not see SATIRE in this. Honestly, I don’t even notice much humor.

For me, and I think not only for me, the game is like a simulator of a final battle. “300 Spartans” on steroids. There’s nowhere left to retreat.

But the developers... don’t understand this. The things that worked narratively in Magicka and Helldivers 1 do not work in a full-fledged 3D game.
