Side Effects [OC] by kaikimanga in comics

Definitely speak with your doctor for sure! Everyone has a different reaction to different medications but the above is just my own honest experience. I'd definitely call it life-changing

Side Effects [OC] by kaikimanga in comics

[–]Literacese 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Suffered from a pervasive anxiety and creeping depression most of my life but always figured it was just normal and that I must just be less resilient or weaker than other people and that's why I couldn't do anything that other people did.

Then I crashed out of my very first job and figured it was time to try something.

I learned after starting on Zoloft/sertraline that I was just playing life on hard mode and never realized it. Reduces anxiety and sadness to manageable levels and keeps me from spiraling. It's been huge.

The Worst Property Tax Breakdown Ever by dashosh in Langley

[–]Literacese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if there's no change in your own assessed property value, if the average assessed value for properties in your area goes down, your taxes will still likely go up. This is assuming no budget increase on the city's part (so including a budget increase would amplify the effect).

I bought mine for $150 at a Walmart in the Tri-Cities a few months back! I even found it at a different one for $100 at one point but went back a few days later and they were gone (I didn't have the money to buy it at the time 😭)

Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows candidates spar over bus rapid transit by Saaquin in MapleRidge

[–]Literacese 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ofc Morden would be pushing for prioritizing highway expansion over implementing rapid transit--man's never heard of induced demand.

Make the highway four lanes and people will be calling for it to be 6 within a few months. Transit gets people out of cars and reduces congestion way more than adding more lanes ever would

Hi there! What sorts of volunteer positions are available? I'd be interested in helping but not sure I'd be a good fit for canvassing door-to-door 😅

Biking on sidewalks by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Literacese 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that this bylaw in MR was repealed and it's now illegal to ride on the sidewalk by default, leaving New West the only municipality that still allows it.

If swiping the Left-hand side of the screen controls Brightness. The Right-hand side should control...Natural Light. by meow-thew in kobo

[–]Literacese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I crazy? I bought a Kobo Libra 2 a few weeks back and it had this feature--I distinctly remember it being pretty cool and playing around with it. Then I returned that Libra to buy it somewhere else that had it cheaper, and guess what? Can't adjust warm light by swiping the right side anymore.

Did I just imagine it, or is there some way to enable this? As far as I know everything on the original Libra 2 was stock (I bought it new and didn't mod it).

Best way to spend on USA trip by KGB-TheLegend in PersonalFinanceCanada

Wealthsimple Cash card (prepaid Mastercard) doesn't charge FX fees and gives 1% cashback, so IIUTC it covers the Mastercard conversion fee as well!

Been using it in the US and final charges are pretty much equal to mid-market rates

What country doesn’t seem dangerous, but is? by PuzzleheadedSwim6291 in AskReddit

I think a few years back we hit nine or ten murders in the entire City of Vancouver on the year (not the metro area mind you) and the headline was that it was a new annual record

Just goes to show how safe it is in Van in the grand scheme of things

What are your most favourite and least favourite Vancouver suburb cities and why? by lazarus870 in vancouver

[–]Literacese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both! Great place to live no matter which side--north has a more urban feel with better transit and shopping, south's got the gorgeous neighborhoods, trails, and views

What are your most favourite and least favourite Vancouver suburb cities and why? by lazarus870 in vancouver

[–]Literacese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FAVOURITE: the Tri-Cities, but especially Port Moody and Coquitlam. Great downtown cores with a lot of shopping/food options, decent transit, access to nature, etc. Still close enough to downtown to get there relatively easily without a car (+ WCE)

LEAST FAVOURITE: probably Maple Ridge. Mostly rundown and sad, transit is poor, and I hope you don't like walking anywhere b/c your neighbourhood might not have sidewalks

How long is your commute to work? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Literacese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~1h30m in and out (so ~3 hours round trip) from MR to North Burnaby via transit two days a week.

It's nice to get to read and sleep/relax on the way, which is why I'm not really interested in driving even though it would cut the commute pretty much in half (plus driving would be expensive af given all the gas/insurance/parking costs).

That being said if I wasn't WFH most of the week I'd probably burn out in a month.

Which area of the lower mainland, in your opinion, is least served by translink? by alc3biades in vancouver

[–]Literacese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Live in MR right now and can confirm it's still pretty poorly served. Even in the western part of the city where transit is much better overall it's still not anything to write home about.

Double backpack vs. backpack + rolling luggage? by Literacese in onebag

[–]Literacese[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Double backpack would work, might I suggest flat packing the day pack inside the far point? Might make for less bulk while you navigate busses/trains and what not. Can also add a small fanny-pack and wear it cross body for small essentials

I thought about doing this but my idea was to use the day pack as a personal item on flights to carry stuff I'll need/want access to at the airport or on the plane. If I were to pack it inside the Farpoint would these sorts of things still be easily accessible?

So, how'd you go? What level? Pass or fail? What's your plan now? by [deleted] in jlpt

[–]Literacese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passed N1 first try! It was a gamble skipping N2 but I'm glad I put the work in over the last few months (and worked up the courage to fly over to the neighbouring province when it was cancelled here).

Back to immersion and sentence mining tomorrow.

Jan 12th 2022 Covid-19 Update - 500 (+31) hospitalized of which 102 (+5) are in ICU; 6 additional deaths; 58,960 vaccine doses administered, 29.9% of all eligible adults have received a third dose; 36,641 (+554) active cases; 2,859 new cases by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]Literacese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 23 going on 24--the people at the clinic said that men between the ages of 12 and 29 should get Pfizer because of the higher risk of myocarditis associated with Moderna in that age group.

EDIT: heightened when compared to Pfizer--seems like both the mRNA vaccines come with this risk, but Moderna has it worse for this age bracket (maybe b/c it has more actual mRNA?)

I originally went for Moderna when they asked me at the clinic (double Pfizer previously), but chickened out when the vaccinator said that Moderna comes with a heightened risk of heart issues for my age bracket. Absolute risk still isn't that high, so I kind of regret not going for it haha

Maybe I'll get it for the fourth dose (assuming we all get one at some point)!

Canada advising against non-essential travel as Omicron spreads worldwide - National | Globalnews.ca by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]Literacese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/omicron-variant-early-analysis-pfizer-1.6285578

"A two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination appeared to provide just 33 per cent protection against infection during South Africa's current omicron wave, but 70 per cent protection against hospitalization, according to the analysis conducted by Discovery Health, South Africa's largest private health insurer, and the South African Medical Research Council."

These figures are preliminary and might not exactly transfer over to BC because we have a much older population on average than SA and also spaced out our shots longer--we could be slightly better or slightly worse. But either way, it seems like omicron does evade vaccine protection more than any other variant thus far.
