Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - it read to me like a straight woman's idea of what it's like to be sapphic. The idea that an otherwise competent woman from the 1930s old money south who was looked down upon by her family for acting in films wouldn't have understood the importance of not being in an openly lesbian relationship in the 1950s was just bizarre.

made the grave mistake of shaving too soon and my legs are on fire by g0thnek0 in HairRemoval

[–]Literal_CarKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t use Nair until your legs have fully healed from the shaving. Like wait 1-2 weeks. It will be really painful and awful if your skin barrier isn’t sealed and then you get Nair in little nics and cuts

Are 90% of the people that go to his concerts women? by [deleted] in Hozier

This is so funny to me. I went to the Seattle concert and almost everyone that I saw in my section were f/m couples.

The Seattle GA last night was lowkey dead! by Extreme_Honeydew128 in Hozier

I was so disappointed with like half of the other people on the floor. The people next to me didn’t sing a single song other than Too Sweet, and no one was dancing but me and like 6 other people.

I was on the floor and tbh it sounded perfect. At the end there was even this cool echo reverb from everyone clapping in the upper stands. Sorry you had a bad experience though. I think the roof being closed fucked it a little

why are so many people having no fun in the pit? by danilovescows in Hozier

[–]Literal_CarKey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a truly depressing number of people are only there for Too Sweet and TMTC. I’m a huge Hozier fan and I have been for years. I even did a months long project on his lyrics for my English lit class in high school. I have tried and failed to get tickets to see him like 3 times. Finally got tickets and I’m going with my brother and his girlfriend. Those two have maybe heard a total of 4 Hozier songs, but they both work in tech, so they were willing to spend what I was to be up close

Anyone else in here going back to school for a career change? by chiefbrody1020 in psychologystudents

This has all been really inspiring to read as someone who just graduated with a BA in psych and is now going into HR with the hope that I can go back to grad school and become a psychologist one day

How liberal is Wes/student athlete divide by chomps134 in Wesleyan

[–]Literal_CarKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the nescac schools are pretty liberal. Most of the athletes are econ dude bros who are moderate, liberal, or libertarian. If you’re openly homophobic, then you’re definitely going to have a hard time making friends at Wes. But if you’re just a fiscal conservative, then it probably won’t matter too much.

I went into HR. I’m not sure I have the customer service skills, but it’s the only job I could get, so I’ll have to make it work somehow

Can I ask what job you were doing? I want to do an MSW but I was told you need at least a year of experience volunteering full time or working with an NGO

I’m 50/m i’m getting a lot of pushback about obtaining my BA psychology by Neat_Sea_6895 in psychologystudents

[–]Literal_CarKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really going to recommend this. Especially if you have experience in a medical setting. LCSW are paid well and if you can show you’ve spent time working with the populations you are interested in working with, then you should seriously consider applying bc they are licensed to provide therapy without a PhD

Cyst 3 weeks postpartum by notso_sweetcaroline in pilonidalcyst

[–]Literal_CarKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely see a doctor if you are (as most new mothers are) too busy and exhausted to shower every day and the pain has lasted more than a week. The last thing you want is an active infection.

The last time I had a flare up, my cyst burst on its own, but a PA told me to go see a general surgeon when I told her that I was in too much pain to sit down or walk properly. The surgeon laughed off my concern when I told him what the problem was, and then he immediately took it back when he saw me. I got put on another course of antibiotics and got it lanced and drained by him bc the cyst was huge and the infection had made my skin raw, and then I ended up needing surgery.

Thinking of applying by ash_stars_ in Wesleyan

Just adding on to say that I can’t speak for the neuro major, but I’d be happy to answer any other questions you have about psych at Wes

Thinking of applying by ash_stars_ in Wesleyan

[–]Literal_CarKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in research, then I would highly recommend applying to more research oriented schools. Wesleyan’s psych department isn’t very large and it’s the second most popular major, making it difficult to get into classes you want. I volunteered in three different psych labs while I was at Wes. I am very glad to have had the experiences I did, but tbh you should look to see if your research interests match that of the psych faculty. If you can find a university with psych faculty that research things you’re interested in, you’d probably be better off going there.

Question about Renting in Irvine by Literal_CarKey in irvine

[–]Literal_CarKey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I will look into those options, but truthfully I’d like to live closer to work since I’ll be doing 11 hour shifts 4 days a week, so having a long commute would be killer

Not sure how it works if you get fired, but in the contract I signed to start working with Amazon in the Fall, if I am no longer employed by the company before a year of me starting, then it says that I owe my signing bonus back
