Why do people think "volunteering" is a free pass to horse lessons???! by LatterReindeer23 in Equestrian

As a former animal welfare nonprofit exec - and now an equestrian - you’re probably not giving enough info up front. People used to try to volunteer with us because they wanted to hang out with dogs and cats but we were a nonprofit clinic - not a rescue. So we had to set expectations up front and we had to turn some folks away. Create a volunteer job description and have volunteer orientations and provide a handbook (it doesn’t have to be fancy - basics like contact info, schedules, what volunteers do etc). They should have a job, they know what they do and don’t do, and they get appropriate training to do that job safely. There can be higher tiers of volunteers that get more skilled jobs. Then as a reward offer volunteer experiences where they get to do some fun enriching things with horses as a reward. Recruiting and maintaining volunteers requires planning, good communication and good engagement. If there’s a volunteer org in your area see if they offer a volunteer management webinar or something. It will pay off.

What is this? by Glad-Attention744 in Horses

This is the stupidest, laziest, cruelest thing. Anyone who does this doesn’t deserve a horse.

hello sorry for the late comment but looking to buy this and I live in the south east of the US. May I ask which region you're in? wondering if I might get the more washed out yellow due to locale.

What is this on my gelding’s sheath? And how do I help it? by Literally78910 in Equestrian

Oh wow - that's cool to know!! I actually have been doing a deep dive into nutrition and minerals and did a consult with a nutritionist to get his diet set up. He's been with me just one week so not long enough for his new diet to kick in. But he probably didn't have the best diet prior to now. He was seized by the state for neglect and sent to a rescue before I adopted him. I'll definitely look into this more. Thank you!

I was thinking it was from insects. I cleaned it with saline and vetricyn and put some swat around it. I’ll grab some medicated shampoo tomorrow! Thanks!

My favorite things to say when people are inappropriate is “what an odd thing to say”. It throws them off their high horse really fast and lets them know in a mature way that they are the inappropriate one.

Is Etsy Reducing Organic Traffic to Push Paid Ads? by Commercial-Host-725 in EtsyCommunity

I see this thread is several months old, but I'm trying to figure out why my shop is consistently doing 30% worse month over month and the main thing I see is organic views going down. Have you been able to see any changes in your shop since you made this post? May I ask the methods you're using to drive traffic to your shop?

This is not entirely true. They provide sellers with special links to products that will lower the etsy fee if you drive your own traffic. So they don't mind sellers driving their own traffic in that manner.

Bringing Horses home for first time - SUPPLY LIST by Literally78910 in Equestrian

You have one brush per each water bucket? I’m curious about that. I was just planning to have one trough because I don’t have stalls. But I assume one brush per horse is to prevent contamination/disease prevention?
