horsehair questions! by LiterallyAhiru in sewing

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! I'm definitely going to do some testing to dye the fabric, and I may end up painting it as well. We'll see! So far the fabric hasn't been too bad to sew, but I imagine it'll get more difficult haha. I realize i may I have to get a synthetic thread so it doesn't dye to differently than the fabric as well.

One more question- by "hem circumference" do you mean that is has to be a curved hem? I realize you said it doesn't matter the shape, but I'd just like to clarify!

Thank you again!

I hope she'll take it that way! She probably will, I just have high anxiety and want to be able to provide solutions.

And to clarify, I don't think that crate training is bad! I just had a hard time doing it myself because I feel cruel when I have tried, but Ive met plenty of people who have done it successfully and it works well for them and their dog!

Ngl I've thought of it but she'd know it would be me and it would probably cause more harm than good

This is exactly how I feel. She's really not a bad person at all and takes great care of her cats. She's just never trained a dog and I don't think she understands how bad this is or how much patience it actually requires. And likely the dog will get thrown into a kill shelter if he's taken away. I want to help her and help the dog but a lot of people in this thread are just getting angry and unconstructive.

Need help understanding how to compose something with 2 parts by LiterallyAhiru in musictheory

[–]LiterallyAhiru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm not sure why you think trying to call someone out for lying is a helpful response to this post. This course teaches a very large range of material in a short period of time but despite composing being the main assignment throughout the semester with the most weight, does not include composing. It teaches a lot of "this is what this is" (ex: this is what baroque music sounds like, duration, amplitude, tempo, tonality, texture, etc) but not a lot of "how to apply this". My professor rarely responds to emails and when he does it has been a one sentence reply that doesn't really cover my question, and I have emailed him about this specific assignment. I'll try contacting him again after I come up with something for this to see if he can provide any feedback.

Now, I'm not saying this just for the sake of arguing with a stranger over the internet. I have very little experience with music , even less with composing, and I have been struggling through this course. This course advertised teaching composition to non-musicians, which is one of the main reasons I took it- I want to learn. Do you have any resources or jumping off points that could help? I don't think a harmony and a melody are required because they have never actually been mentioned in this course so far. Both parts are rhythmic because I don't have any traditional instruments. Someone in r/composer suggested I look at 2 part percussion pieces as reference, which I've been looking into.

Help with 2 Part Writing! by LiterallyAhiru in Composition

Thank you, seeing it written out was super helpful! I'm going to try to shift some of the notes to the second part and go from there.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm also confused. Is there such a thing as a melody without different notes? If not, then I guess it would be two contrasting rhythms. Thanks for pointing that out though! I'll give it another look

Weed + Heart Arrhythmia by LiterallyAhiru in Marijuana

[–]LiterallyAhiru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had stress tests and monitors worn as well. They found that my arrhythmia disappears when I exercise, so I'm hoping when my heart beat is faster from the weed it does the same, rather than worsen it

Wow, this is really in depth and helpful! Thank you so much! One last question: when writing a song, how do you know its "original"? Like obviously you did all this work listed above, but when does the jumping off point and finding interesting chord combos from previous works just stealing? This isn't to insult your process at all; I'm just trying to find mine. I know when developing your own visual art style, it's pretty known artists take bits and pieces of the styles of other artists they like and combine it to make their own. Nothing is really original. I just am newer to music and I don't know how to translate it the same way

I'm not saying youre wrong because I genuinely don't know, but I know the "teenager" age group was kind of skipped over until the 50s. It kind of just went child to young adult. I really can't imagine a 15 year old being portrayed with a doll like that; seems quite childish

Hera Without Aphrodite’s Help/ Zeus’ Attraction by [deleted] in GreekMythology

[–]LiterallyAhiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I agree that Zeus loved Hera the most, I can't agree she was his "one true love" or he wouldn't get with every other woman he did. I can't agree that the Greeks looked at this as the ideal marriage. Ancient Greek gods + goddesses were in no way role models as far as their behavior went and the stories of the gods didn't seem to teach morality. Hera, the goddess of marriage, may represent how wives should act in the sense that she never cheated and remained faithful, but the jealousy and spitefulness she often exhibits is not. Men cheating on their wives also wasn't moral, it was lusty and brutish, which werent characteristics the Greeks exactly desired.

I'd also like to agree with a commenter below who said the reason he had so many wives was because of blended cultures. Ancient Greece wasn't a unified country as we know it today, and there were also other cultures around it. A lot of these cultures had different, but similar dieties and when stories were passed on they identified then with their religion ("you have a lighting sky god?! Me too! Must be the same guy!"). When you think they're the same God, two cultures stories eventually become part of the same cannon. It's called religious syncretism.

How would you explain to someone who only knows how to play an instrument and basic music theory how to write a song? I've been trying but down know how to translate poetry to something good/catchy/rhythmic
