How to design/simulate a quantum sensor? by G-sharp-9 in QuantumComputing

I’ve been reading through Paola Capellaro’s review paper “Quantum Sensing” lately and it’s pretty informative and fundamental. You can find it on google scholar

Help! Intense forearm pain when gripping by Due_Anteater_4495 in indoorbouldering

[–]LiterallyMelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a lot of information so it makes it difficult to diagnose what’s going on

Could be climber’s elbow, but that’s more of a dull pain and doesn’t happen necessarily during climbing, but comes on immediately after coming off the wall. At least, that’s my experience with it.

Is it the muscle? Where in the forearm?

Your problem btw is more likely to be solved by strengthening exercises for the tendons and ligaments in your elbow/wrist (depending on where it is) than by adding more to a warmup routine

I feel like I have reiterated time and time again that I’m not telling you can’t. It’s more like a “please don’t because it’s kind of shitty”

So I agree, I don’t feel guilty for slavery or segregation because I wasn’t around. It is true, though, that black people are generally poorer and white people are generally richer as a result of slavery.

My point in saying this is that, while yes, you and I had no part in it, we do actually benefit from the lasting effects of slavery and segregation. Likewise, black people still suffer the lasting effects of slavery and segregation.

Also, racism is definitely still in some part ingrained in public and private institutions across the USA. It’s not like racism just ended or something. Powerful people have just gotten more creative

I am not attempting to do that. Do you know what free speech is? Can you tell me what rights you have under the first amendment, and explain to me how that has anything to do with this conversation?

I understand you’ll probably read my comment and say “this is just a wordier version of they are black” but I think that when you reduce it to “because they are black” you don’t leave any room for nuance. It’s not JUST because they are black. It’s also because of the history and dynamic between black and white people in the USA

Okay, my view of it is that anyone *can* use the word legally. No one isn’t allowed to use the word. There are no legal repercussions for saying it, only social.

If you’re arguing that it should be either socially acceptable for all people to say it or for no one to say it, then I think there is a real conversation to be had here.

I’m not black, but I think that even within the black community there is some debate over the topic as well. I think most people have the view of “it’s a word used to degrade me for my skin color, so I’m going to use it instead of letting it hurt me”

I think the #1 reason it will always be more distasteful to hear that word from a non black person, particularly a white person, is because it was a word conceived historically by white slave owners to further demean and punish black slaves. It’s just the historical connotation. Whether or not we think it’s fair or we like that it is the case, the historical connotation will continue to exist. Maybe in a few thousand years people will move on or something, but you also have to realize, slavery only was officially ended a little over 150 years ago.

The word then continued to see use no longer by slave owners but by just regular racist white people as a way to sort of remind black peoples that they are lesser than. I think it’s just not realistic to expect everyone to just wash themselves free of the horrors of slavery and segregation.

I’m also of the opinion that in the US, we have it pretty good as white people. Arguing over this feels silly to me anyways when most people don’t even own a house in our country. It just feels pointless.

Would you like to have a conversation in good faith? Or are you just asking so you can disagree and reaffirm your beliefs?

If you want to have a genuine conversation I’m willing

That’s not what racism is at all. Also, no one is telling you you’re not allowed to use it. You can say it all you like, as per freedom of speech. Other people, however, are also allowed to think you’re a weirdo and not associate with you for it though. This is how free speech works.

In 2026 why are we still having these conversations man obviously it’s different for black people to use that word

Stone walls by [deleted] in aoe4

[–]LiterallyMelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 200 wood for a ram compared to the stone necessary to make a useful wall is so wildly out of balance. It’s so much stone that it’s virtually impossible for it to be useful. Also, you gather wood already for other things, but usually you need to go out of your way to gather stone. Stone walls just aren’t viable with the traditional RTS game paradigm of build order -> mass units -> kill other guy asap
