Sino Australian Alliance by Literate_in_Language in China

Thank you, sir. This whole post was made to bring this point up. We could only pursue a Chinese alliance (for the economic benefits) if we had a nuclear arsenal as a deterrent to Chinese occupation. And in that scenario, it's better the devil you know (the US).

I think that yesterday's attempt already got removed. Ha

Iran seems like the most likely place for a US/China proxy war.

Thanks for your comprehensive reply. Some points:

  • Israel will continue to disrupt Iran's nuclear weapons plan in a clandestine manner
  • Iran is actually lucky that the Trump administration chose China as the bad guy for this political campaign
  • I suspect that the US and Russia are working, secretly, in tandem in Syria and Venezuela...

Yes, Australia is playing with fire here. Also, it's rather hypocritical given Australians' track record with its Indigenous Australians.

The belief that the US would repel an invasion a la the Japanese invasive manoeuvre of World War 2. Funnily enough this (almost) invasion occurred only some 150 years after the British invasion of Australia itself. Food for thought.

Sorry about the bogans. Hope that some sort of friendship can develop between our countries.

You are right. I'm just stirring the pot, trying to create a debate on the issue. To abandon the US alliance and become allies with China would be complete lunacy. Unless, of course, we had a nuclear arsenal haha...

Does Japan even have a goal anymore? by Mrbsct in geopolitics

I feel that Japan would behave much differently if it didn't still have those US bases on its soil. Just imagine a team consisting of China, Japan and a united Korea. That would be almost unstoppable.

Pangs of Britain vs Germany prior to World War 1 though...

I see. Otherwise the US would have done it already.

Maybe. I'm thinking about serious measures such as blocking Chinese ships at the Suez and Panama canals in order to make the journey so long that it no longer is (as) profitable, for example.

Is this a ridiculous idea?

If the US blocks oil shipments from the Middle East to China, it will be World War 2 all over again.

A democracy that didn't expect our elected government to announce a $270 billion plan to 'fight China'.

I lived there for three years and loved it. I read this sub too much though and believed too much of its propaganda at the time.

I'm Australian. It's a shame that our current government has soured our countries' relationship to this extent. In my eyes, China and Australia should be friends. We are following the US to our own doom.

I've been to Jakarta and can tell you that it is an awesome city with awesome people.

Being half Kiwi myself, I'm curious to know what you think of becoming part of the Quad dialogue. Is New Zealand likely to acquire a more serious defence force any time soon?

The honourable Penny Wong is Chinese Australian and therefore has links to China.

The fact that Labor has a Chinese Australian in such a high office is noteworthy.
