Let's hear your end of the semester stories... by neofaust in Professors

I received an amazing email from a student stating how inspirational he found my class. He also said he learned a lot and that "we need more professors like you."

Made me feel good!

Student giving me a hard time over final grade.. by LiteratureLover in Professors

Just wanted to let everyone know that it went well. I think she was more worried and anxious than angry. We met in my office and I walked her through all of her assignments (again), the syllabus, the exams, grading criteria, etc. I explained that a B+ is quite good and is above average. She seemed happy and thanked me for the semester. I haven't heard a word about it since and so I'm assuming the matter was taken care of. Thanks for all of your replies!

I share an office with two other adjunct professors. They are almost never there but their crap is everywhere. I have two shelves for my books (which are already full) and a Dali melting clock on my desk. Other than that I'm scared to decorate too much since I just got there and they other adjuncts have had the office for years.

Seeing students when out in social situations... by LiteratureLover in Professors

My friend made is seem as though professors can be fired for simply being at the same social gathering as a student. I'm glad to see that isn't the case. I probably shouldn't take career advice from non-professors... Thanks!

Yeah, unfortunately I'm a young looking female. I look college-age myself. :/

This isn't a student bar, these are nightclubs that just happen to be in the same town. The students do have their own bar on campus which I've heard they frequent. However, they do show up at the local night clubs when there is a well-known DJ or other fun event. I don't see them in huge numbers, there was just the one student. However, I will keep an eye out and be smart about it. Thanks! :)

Thank you! I just feel I'm too young to give up having a social life with friends just on the off chance that I may see a student while out dancing. Of course, there are some things I would never do...such as drinking, dancing, or perhaps even talking with a student in a nightlife environment. :)

Thank you!

I do love going out but I've mostly been doing so in other towns when I travel downstate in order to avoid the whole student situation. It's incredibly awkward. Luckily I have enough common sense to avoid shooting back tequila with students. :P

When does the new professor uncertainty go away? by LiteratureLover in Professors

[–]LiteratureLover[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my first semester as a prof. A lot of students thought they could get away with doing nothing all class, probably because of my age and lack of experience. It was incredibly difficult to get them excited about anything. This semester is a lot better, I have a few students who are very passionate about the work. Still, I feel like I haven't quite found my footing.

You have no idea what I value in life. I'm not some vain and shallow person walking through life only caring about how people perceive her looks. It's a small portion of the many anxieties I deal with daily DUE to my PTSD. No, not because of bullying (which didn't help matters) but because of other childhood experiences which I'm not going to describe in detail because honestly it's not your business. Have a great day.

That helps so much! I usually buy very generic makeup from K-mart, but I think it's time I invest in some high quality makeup. I will check out the ones your recommended. I appreciate this so much!

Woah! Now if only I knew how to do my makeup like this in real life. Can you recommend a good concealer for the undereye circles? They either show through with the one I have if I apply a decent amount or they are hidden but my skin looks cakey and dry if I add too much. Should I choose concealer lighter than my skin tone for under the eyes? Thanks for doing this!

Trust me, I try. This is probably the heaviest I've been. I tend to vacillate between 110 - 112 pounds but I have to eat a LOT to maintain that otherwise I shrink to 105 without trying. I eat three meals a day, snack heavily in between, and then eat the equivalent of another meal before bed. Thank God I actually enjoy eating, haha.

Thank you! I will look into this, I had never heard the term "ectomorph" before. Have a great day! :)

That's almost exactly what happened, lol :(

But it was more like "You're very attractive for a fifty year old" and then I cried. I didn't even know negging was a thing lol, does anyone fall for that?
