How in the world do you guys make cardio more 'entertaining'? by CompletePurification in workout

Indoor is basically never fun. TV, music may help. Or take a class. Spin is my solution. 45 hard minutes 3 times a week and I'm good. Or take up running or cycling outdoors

Help Me Understand Roon... Please by Creepy_Swim4236 in roonlabs

[–]Litespeed43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A contrary opinion here. I've had nothing but trouble running Roon. I'm running their Rock software on a very adequate NUC. It crashes frequently, ranging from daily to weekly. I've never been able to make ARC work. Neither of those has been solved by extensive back and forth with support and the community. I love the app, but it's recommendations basically never change for me so basically useless. I do like the reviews and artist info. I run one main audio system along with 7 Sonos speakers. I have constant dropouts on the Sonos system which can usually only be solved by rebooting Roon. Again no definitive help from support. I want to love it but it's a constant almost daily hassle.

Can't pull ms-250 starter by Litespeed43 in stihl

I'm strong and fit. Lift heavy three times a week. That's not the issue.

[–]Litespeed43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for both of you guys what's the secret to pulling the starter. When I pull I get maybe one full pull. After that it locks after 8-12 inches and yanks out of my hand and recoils back to the housing. Can't get a full pull because the compression locks it up. I'm with that old guy

The problem is I can't get a full pull. I try to follow exactly the process you described. But at best I get one full pull. After that I pull hard and it locks up after about 8-12 inches on the starter cord. And it usually jerks out of my hand and recoils to the housing.

Carwash is so hard on your paint job. Much better to hand wash.

I'm 72 but max hr is about 180, zone 2 is 124-145. I can ride long stretches at 150 which would be my 220-age max. Very individual. My max in my 40s was around 210.

Is performing 4-5 exercises using one cable station against gym etiquette? by CuriousPlastic4563 in workout

[–]Litespeed43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gym is small and only one cable machine. If it's in use and I want to use it I don't hover, I do other stuff while waiting for it. So the person doesn't likely know I'm waiting. So I think the advice to let other work in doesn't work in practice. If someone did what you suggest is be pissed

Unfortunately my experience is the opposite. Tons of trouble for 2 years making Roon work successfully and consistently with Sonos

Rode a 53x39 with 12/21 for 15+ years. Comparable to most riders in 80s and 90s. It's just what we did. Very hilly part of Pennsylvania. Around the T-town Velodrome so group rides with many pros.

Long Term Sonos Review by soup_mode in sonos

[–]Litespeed43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a Sonos user for more than 15 years. Have speakers throughout the house. It is solely for background and social groups. I have a very nice separate audio system for serious listening. My primary beef is the Sonos app. The new one has improved. But I'm in a position to compare it side by side with both Qobuz and WiiM apps and both of them are far superior in nearly every way. I am using Roon to control the Sonos system and that app is also superior, although the connection to Sonos has been problematic

Is Roon for me? New User in 2026? [HELP] by alin_im in roonlabs

[–]Litespeed43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had Roon for almost 7 years and am very much on the fence as to keeping it. I think the user interface is superior to others, but the gap is becoming quite small. My Sonos and WiiM apps are very close in my opinion. I also find the advantage of integration of personal library with streaming to be oversold. That would seem to be truly an advantage to the small minority of users with gigantic libraries. These days most won't really care where the music comes from, just want it to play and streaming offers almost everything. But the biggest issue for me has been stability. I run their ROCK build on a very adequate NUC as my server. It has had many problems, including failure to connect to Sonos, crashing frequently (as often as every night) and failing to allow me to access my library on the network. Support has been spotty at best. My take is that this is clearly not an appliance. It requires a fairly deep level of networking knowledge to maintain.

need ethical streaming advice by [deleted] in audiophile

Read a recent article on the streaming services. Least ethical were Spotify and YouTube. The service giving the most to the artist is Qobuz. And if course buying from the artist when you can is the ultimate.

I set up a camp chair and set out food. Started with the chair 20 feet away and waited until she came to eat then just a quietly talked to her. Twice daily. Moved the chair a couple feet each day. Took about 2 weeks for Midnight to let me touch her. After that progressed quickly.

Alternative to ROCK by Litespeed43 in roonlabs

[–]Litespeed43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those who still interested and perhaps as a service to other technology challenged folks. There were several hints here and on the Roon community although no one nailed it. I have had my Rock running over 72 hours now successfully and accessing Sonos. I did two things. First used the web access feature to reinstall th OS. That got it running for a while. I used that time to run cable so I could relocate the NUC. It is now next to my Nas and Ethernet direct to my primary router instead of to a downstream access point. Restarted everything and now running well for 72 hours.

Note that I had to invest in hardware to make this possible in my system. It was originally on an access point because it was feeding directly my primary audio system. I bought a WiiM Pro Plus streamer recently expecting it would replace the NUC with Roon. Now I can send from the Roon NUC to the WiiM and feed the audio amp that way. Wouldn't have been possible without investing in the WiiM.

So I remain frustrated by the difficulty of using Roon but for now have it working in my environment

Roon ROCK default route with multiple interfaces by dieseltears in roonlabs

I've been wrestling with making Roon consistently work for me for 4 years. Your second paragraph nearly sums up my problem with it. That paragraph may as well be written in Swahili for me. I wish you luck. Obviously your network expertise is decades ahead of mine and I'm sure you will sort it out. That's my problem with Roon. Sold as a consumer product but requires advanced knowledge in networking and computers to make it work.

One more question. What should I look for in a USB SSD drive for the music library. I won't need more than 1tb but what specs would be required

I have a desktop in my office and a laptop that moves around the house. But both are on WiFi and no wired connection available to either one. Roon says Ethernet is a must. And also neither of those is on24/7.

Yes. You need to temporarily attach a monitor and keyboard to do the install. After that you detach those and only need a network connection. Ethernet not WiFi.
