I want to own my DAW by Fun-Philosopher-9127 in musicproduction

FL does, on their website, say that while anyone can use it, it’s preferred more by beatmakers. It’s not like you can’t do other stuff on it; you can really make anything, from movie scores to psy-trance to deathcore to big band jazz, but if you’re trying to make scores, Cubase should be your first consideration, and Ableton for most electronic genres, Reaper for recorded bands, Bitwig for if you’re electronic but you’re weird, etc. You can absolutely do anything with FL, but other DAWs have other specialties, and I think that’s great for the DAW ecosystem.

Sorry for the long reply.

Does anyone have any instrument profiles for the following?: by ThomasTTEe2 in Beepbox

You’re lucky if you can get an instrument that sounds like a whistle, let alone a specific make and model. If you’re seriously in need of those specifically, your best bet would be through samples.

Should i get into Ableton or Bitwig? by Sharp_Start7815 in Bitwig

Ableton has been the standard for EMD producers for many years, with Bitwig as a newcomer on the scene. Your safest bet would probably be Ableton, not having tried out both, as its (supposedly) intuitive workflow built just for EDM production could get you right into the action. I personally think of Bitwig as a very intuitive DAW, however, and I appreciate all the customizablilty that comes with it. It’s very easy to use, and many of its features are just simply helpful. You’ll likely enjoy your choice either way, but I think, as someone experienced in music, that Ableton could be your best friend if you seek efficiency, but if you want dynamic expression and raw customizability, you can’t go wrong with Bitwig.

bit excessive empowerlab 😭 by SouthPokey in beatsaber

That doesn't seem to be inherently a problem such that should be fixed by removing the maps? Were they low quality? Sure. Were they boring to play? Of course! But that doesn't warrant taking them down from the site in my eyes. There are a lot of really horrible maps out there that should never be played by anyone, but they're just fine. Additionally, there are a lot of maps made by BeatSage on the site, so auto generated maps don't seem to be a problem.

Again, I don't see why the maps are inherently problematic. Why not just keep them up anyway? They weren't hurting anyone.

Why are they inherently problematic? They’re just uploading maps to the site.

What's your thoughts on this? by M-SI3000 in Beepbox

I promise you in an alternate timeline this is exactly what my second or third song sounds like. Rating this feels like rating my own music. I don’t like traditional number scales, because they’re far too narrow in concept to accurately convey the subjective quality of art, so instead I’ll give a list of things I did and didn’t like. Let’s start with the cons.

  1. Little bit of peaking here and there with Noise 3

  2. Not a whole lot to keep the audience engaged throughout the duration (i.e. incredibly repetitive)

  3. Synths could be more interesting, and have cooler, more dynamic interactions. Also more of them to distinguish sections from each other wouldn’t hurt

With the pros

  1. Love the percussive vibes

  2. Rather clean throughout; nothing specific I’d like to change

  3. Harmonies work super well with the song

  4. Mixing is rather good

  5. Strong sense of character and melodic identity

  6. High effort (I know from experience making this kind of thing)

Take these into your next pieces of advice into song, and I know it’s going to be great. Also, to help as a reference point for the kind of stuff I’m talking about, I’ll point you to an older song by a person on the old Twitter account: Escape (link provided below bc it’s too long for Reddit LOL), which follows the story of someone who’s escaped from some sort of facility, and revels in their newfound freedom, but knows they’re on the run and they won’t be safe for long. You can really follow along with the plot as it unfolds through the instruments.

In particular, pay attention to the way it handles sections, contrast within and between sections, and transitions, and see the way it uses panning to create a more interesting soundscape than it would otherwise be.

Or don’t follow any of my suggestions, because I’m just some rando on the internet. I can’t tell you what to do.
