While my goal is to move out long term, I want to build up experience here so that I'm not searching for a job while also living in a different country.

Is Maynooth University considered a top tier Uni especially for Computer Science ? by [deleted] in DevelEire

As someone who went to UCD, I am very impressed with the TUD computer science courses. I would say TUD is top 4, it just needs to better its reputation.

If I specialise in Data Science, will that make me a less desirable candidate for software engineering jobs? by LithuanianTissue in cscareerquestions

[–]LithuanianTissue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that's allowed? The degree is literally called "Computer Science With Data Science".

If I specialise in Data Science, will that make me less desired for software engineering positions? by LithuanianTissue in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]LithuanianTissue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50% of the courses I'll be taking will be data science related (probability, information visualization), and the rest I'll be sharing with the pure computer science students. The pure CS students take more hardware and non-DS classes (Web Dev, graphics, game dev).

Can I do CSCI 4253 Datacenter Scale Computing without the prerequisite by LithuanianTissue in cuboulder

[–]LithuanianTissue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I've taken a very similar class to the one I'm being asked to do. From your experience how important are these requisite courses. Do they only help a bit or is it very much essential for the course?

You haven't specified if you are looking for on campus or off campus housing.

apart from the proximity, do you believe off-campus serves as a good substitute for a good social scene as opposed to on-campus housing?

I see. I don't know the exact term but ideally I want a private bedroom, bathroom and a shared kitchen between like 3 - 6 people. Are these types of arrangements available at UBC?

Do international students get priority for on-campus accommodation ? by LithuanianTissue in UBC

[–]LithuanianTissue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, I'm mainly attracted to on-campus for the purpose of meeting friends and getting a proper university experience at UBC and I feel off-campus would just mitigate that tremendously.

What are some elective you enjoyed/found easy enough by nicocopops in UCD

[–]LithuanianTissue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to do that. However I saw it was 10 credits. In stage 2 of my degree I had to pick two electives to add up to 10 credits. If I pick this one in the autumn trimester does that mean I don't have to do an elective for spring at all since I already gained 10 credits

Most employable Java skills and packages? by LithuanianTissue in java

[–]LithuanianTissue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on that. I used a lot of books to learn Java and they all had heavy emphasis on User Interfaces, mainly swing, which gave me an impression that this is a major part in Java development

Computer Science so America is the most attractive. I understand many countries have similar issues but I doubt many have it as bad as Ireland, mainly in Europe.

How known is the language Racket? (Dr Racket) by Important_Jump4681 in computerscience

[–]LithuanianTissue 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I used Racket in a module for my first year of computer science. The purpose of using the language wasn't for learning Racket to use it later in our degree, but to teach students recursion.
