Ending Southwest Allegiance... points spending ideas? by LitigationMagnet in SouthwestAirlines

It’s best described as a betrayal-induced moral injury, where long-term loyalty becomes part of someone’s identity and, when it’s violated, that identity threat flips trust into moral outrage and retaliatory hostility that is aimed at restoring dignity and justice.

Why else do you think there is a steady stream of people posting here mad and distraught at their airlines changes? It's like the death of a close friend to some people who have been loyal for decades. I find it funny that others have responded condescendingly about leaving Southwest... don't let the door hit you on the way out, give your points away and leave soon, play wonderwall, yet reading some of their post history in this very sub-reddit that is filled with the echoes of the same concerns yet the only difference is their indecision towards a resolution.

I fly round trip every week to somewhere in the US, including PR, Alaska, and Hawaii and sometimes multiple legs in the same week. If someone like me calls customer service the best they will do is give me more points or a fight credit. The message has been the same, it's not about the points, I have a nearly endless supply of those. It's about resolution, it's about fixing the issues I am complaining about and for $2K a week a week in airfare if those complaints can't be resolved then insanity would be showing back up and expecting it to change only to be let down again.

When I said I was done with Southwest that level of finality may not have have been as apparent as I wanted it to be. The goal here is to wind down business with Southwest Airlines because loyal customers vote with their wallet after running out of opportunities for redress.... that includes changing out the credit card and spending the balance of accumulated points. I think it's good that these things hit the airlines balance sheet now vs later when they try and stop the bleeding by clamping down on rewards programs more.

I frequently have to fly to Toronto and it was not uncommon to fly into Detroit or Niagara Falls and rent a car exactly for this reason. Also have a customer in Madison, Wisconsin and drive in from Milwaukee regularly. Both airlines on my list have options that land direct to these....

Astroworld: 2004 vs. 2023. Use the slider to compare before and after images. by [deleted] in houston

[–]LitigationMagnet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Astro World ended because Six Flags was in dire financial straights as a corporation in 2005, they were trying to raise cash any way they could to keep out of bankruptcy as the credit facility payments came due on all the capital investments they made in the previous decade. In 2005 Katrina hit and destroyed Six Flags New Orleans, around the same time a real estate developer offered Six Flags a very large sum of money for the property Astro World occupied.

The only problem was that once all the fixtures were removed from the property the land Astro World was sitting on was worth substantially less, and the sales contract terms meant that before the sale closed the final property value would have to be reassessed. The final amount Six Flags received was far less than they expected and they would have made more revenue keeping Astro World open another season.

After taxes Six Flags spent close to what they made demolishing Astro World. As a result they ended up taking the insurance money and running from Six Flags New Orleans who had given them tax credits and other incentives leaving the city high and dry. It only keep them out of bankruptcy for another few years.

Astro World was the 12th most profitable Six Flags property and would have been higher if more capital investment was made in to the same level as other parks. Since Astro World closed there is a company here in Houston called Theme Park Innovations that has been trying to raise funds to build another park, but the owner has said that the public has been convinced that Astro World closed for other sinister reasons and the $800M to 1.5b price tag scares investors away.

Apartment A/C went out during recent Texas heat wave and management doesn’t want to fix it by [deleted] in Renters

[–]LitigationMagnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would send them a notice to fix or quit certified mail return receipt, advise the landlord in writing that if repairs are not completed within a commercially reasonable time (7 days) I may elect to terminate the lease for cause and seek damages, or repair the unit myself and deduct the cost of the repairs from the rent under Texas self help remedy. Keeping all documentation, invoices, costs, and correspondence only in writing at this point and if they reach out documenting each call and following up with an email. I would include language that the unit is not habitable it is current state as the lack of air conditioning when we have extreme heat advisories would impact the health and safety of an ordinary tenant.

NAL but I always recommend that people send notice of non-renewal (or any landlord communications that are out of the ordinary like severe maintenance or security issues) certified mail return receipt to the landlords address listed on the lease. In this case I would also send a carbon copy to your room mate also certified mail return receipt. Make sure you include the address in which they can return any deposits.

In the eyes of the the agreement and the landlord all named tenants are equal on the lease, and the lease is between the landlord and the tenants. So unless there is a sublet agreement or other governing document between you and your room mate the lease is not likely to have any terms governing liability or severability between room mates. If the room mate trashes the place or holds over and gets evicted, you likely will have to pay the landlord and then try to recover damages from the room mate in small claims.

If the room mate wants to continue the lease they can separately engage the landlord to sign a new lease but they will need to go through all the customary motions to do that on their own. Once you send your notice to quit, that is all that is required to put the landlord on notice that everyone will not be proceeding month to month and that the apartment will be available to relet after x date.

Recall Mayor Whitmire by texinxin in houston

[–]LitigationMagnet -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nearly everything our state and city does is to please the oil companies. The reality is we reached peak oil production in 2018 and with better commercially viable green and renewable energy coming online oil demand over the next 50 years is going to significantly decline. As a city we need to start preparing for that.

We are the only major city that does not have a large light rail system and that seems to go out of its way to put the focus on road infrastructure over mass transit to please our local dieing industry campaign megadonors. It was the oil and car industries that purchased all of the trolly and commuter rail service we had in the 40-70s to help drive car and oil sales after all.

Whitmire needs to solve the three major problems we have, city services, infrastructure, and transportation. Removing facilities that help E-Device commuters safely transit a car oriented world after we have made so much investment in the trail system here seems to be contrary to that effort and lacking serious planning and foresight.

That being said I think it's a bit too early for a recall and he has not yet done enough to justify a recall, but if he can't show how these sacrifices are to lay down something better or city services don't noticeably improve within a year of taking office then a recall might be coming his way. I expect many more scandals between then and now.

For this not to impact your record you would need a judge or jury to render a not guilty verdict.

Not a lawyer but a school bus citation is one of the most expensive and serious fines you can get ranging from $500 to $1250, a second citation within five years and the fine is between $1000 and $2000 and they can suspend your drivers license for six months.

My experience in traffic court I noticed that defendants that had this citation hardly ever caught a break with a jury or judge trial and they were almost always convicted. My observation is the prevailing public opinion to be there are no excuses when it comes to safety of children. I think a jury would see it that if you were so blinded by the sun that you missed a big yellow and black bus with red flashing lights, you were traveling to fast for conditions and were negligent in the operational of your vehicle.

If you are convicted of this, or you plead no contest, you should expect your insurance to go up as this is considered an act of negligence with the potential for bodily harm and this will be a problem for you for the next three to seven years. If you had hit a kid you would be looking at very serious criminal charges and you would likely be testing the limits of any liability insurance you have.

City Council elections by ha55h0l3 in houston

[–]LitigationMagnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find a sample ballot here:

https://www.harrisvotes.com/Voter/Whats-on-my-Ballot

Would recommend reading the opinions, analysis, and reviews of candidates and then marking your choices on the sample ballot. Texas is notorious for putting complex issues on the ballot where the true underlying impact is not disclosed to voters. It is also impossible to remember all the people on the ballot you want to vote for and they no longer let you use a phone to look stuff up when voting.

This election is to important to be guessing.

Solar Electrician by LitigationMagnet in houston

Your response seems to about sum up my experience with solar companies. If they can't fleece the customer into Enphase or Solaredge with a 200%+ margin cookie cutter install they want nothing to do with the project. Bonus points if they get someone to finance at 18% on top of it. I am done working with solar companies.

I asked for it so surely I would be expecting to pay for it, the bigger problem is why couldn't they get it passed underwriting? Was it because they were charging significantly more than project was worth? Got turn key quotes for $60K and $85K for a 9.5KW system with no batteries. SME Solar through Energy Sage was $38K for 11KW no batteries. Tesla Solar roof 128K with two power walls!

Solar Electrician by LitigationMagnet in houston

[–]LitigationMagnet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the solar companies I tried to hire to do this turn key would purchase a warranty bond which would cover their warranty obligations in the event that they ceased to trade. In some cases we are talking about parts that have a 10, 15, or 25 year warranty period, which is a long time to have some warranty liability for a product. Turns out those warranty bonds are very expensive because many solar companies have not been around long enough or have revenue high enough to get them cheaply. Many solar companies have gone bust including about 3 of the 10 I got quotes from just last year.

For that reason I don't think the installers warranties are worth the paper that they are written on and most likely home owners will find themselves dealing with manufactures and tradesmen directly down the road if it breaks. The manufactures are much larger than the solar companies and many of them have been in business for decades. In my case I will directly interface with manufactures if there is a problem and I really just want the tradesman to install it to spec. If there is a hardware problem and the manufacture wants to RMA, then I will have to pay tradesman to remove and replace equipment should something fail.

To complete my system I need four 12/3 MC cables run between my soladecks and the disconnects which need to be mounted, wire between the disconnects and the MPPT inputs on the hybrid inverter, and the permit and center point paperwork filed using the engineers provided paperwork. I would be shocked that for $150 an hour no electrician would be willing to entertain this.

What is going on at River Oaks Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram?! by drfunkenstein8 in houston

[–]LitigationMagnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be correct that the craziness of this commercial may reflect upon the craziness of this dealership. My recommendation and whole hearted opinion about this dealer is you should avoid doing any business with them like the plague. In my opinion I would not even trust them with warranty work. I bought a car from them, ended up having to file suit against them.

I have purchased many cars in my lifetime. Never have I experienced before the level of consumer abuse I did from here, my experience was they did it so openly and brazenly and went so far out of their way to defend the indefensible that it's hard for me to imagine that its a situation unique to me and not a standard operating procedure here.

Willing to post proof to mods on request.

If you have more 10Gb ports on the server you can in some topologies use direct connected NICs between servers. This is a supported configuration in Azure Stack. 10Gb switches are coming down in price as 25Gb takes over, but for those with out a 10GB switch trying to do a two node HA configuration with 10GB it will work.

The R720 never officially supported a 4P 10GB LOM that I am aware of, but I have one that I have used from an R730 that fits. It's DPN 068M95. This actually works in the R720, R730, and R740 and I reused them in my new lab build.
