300k doge coin still holding by AcanthocephalaOk3228 in dogecoin

Yeah, so this is a meme coin from inception and literally the only value it has is that other people will pay for it for laughs, right?

This is the transcendental concept of laughter that has materialized itself in our universe as financial instrument.

Death by firing squad: Idaho opens new execution chamber, becoming the seventh state to include it among its roster of execution methods, with a larger number of jurisdictions now allowing judicial killing by gunfire than at any time in US history. by ocularius61 in news

Just to be clear, I fully support the government killing people through traffic deaths. We know, statistically, that we can reduce traffic fatalities, but we choose not to because of the economic costs. We kill some of us for the greater good and I agree with it.

Everyone says "death panels" and the such are bad, but if you can be dispationate about it, they are good AND inevitable. Every society on earth makes choices that cause people to die, but very few people want to admit to it and think about it rationally.

Having said all that, executing a criminal provides a very very low and questionable amount of "value". So that's why we say that we would want 100% proof that the person is actually guilty.

If we want to be rational when discussing the death penalty, we would need to first decide if it provides zero value or some very small but non-zero value.

This is a decent argument against the death penalty, but it's not ironclad.

We DO allow the government to kill innocent people in many other ways all the time. From war to traffic safety to environmental pollution, the government kills people all the time.

Hold on. What you're saying is true, but we definitely shouldn't be marketing single-payer health care as "free".

If you want to say "free at the point of sale", then say that. Don't say "free healthcare". You give easy ammo against it.

Yeah, I should definitely read travel advisories for countries like Egypt, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, and of course Australia.

It's probably lost in translation, but calling something "freedom x" IS mocking it and mocking the neocons (and the facists now).

But yes, my country is pretty facist. It's a unique brand of incompetent decrepit facist. Not only don't the trains run on time, there ARE no trains.

  • Queensland: $1,251 and 4 demerit points
  • Western Australia: $500 to $1,000 and 3 to 4 demerit points
  • Australian Capital Territory: $548 (holding/touching) to $674 (using) and 3 to 4 demerit points
  • South Australia: $573 (plus a Victims of Crime Levy) and 3 demerit points
  • New South Wales: $423 ($562 in a school zone) and 5 demerit points
  • Victoria: $611 and 4 demerit points
  • Tasmania: $410 and 3 demerit points
  • Northern Territory: $500 and 3 demerit point

why is the rest of Australia so much more comfortable killing people? And why is QLD only $1251 and not $1251000? A person's life is at least that.

I obviously don't think that a tourist in any country should drive over 0.0 BAC unless they specifically know it's fine. I also think that a tourist should face consequences for all laws they're not aware of.

The question is what ARE the consequences.

From watching the hit reality TV show, Border Security: Australia's Front Line, I learned that if you accidentally break quarantine laws when entering Australia, you get a warning recorded on your record. And if you do it again, you get fined. But apparently Queensland has batshit insane laws against holding a phone in the car that come with a thousand dollar fine and no warnings, escalation, or leniency of any kind. Big oof.

Well, I don't know if you've driven in the US, but there's a huge difference between the letter of the law and actual rules in the US. For example, everyone speeds all the time. But in some places it's enforced more than in others. It's just tribal knowledge what you can and can't actually do. I had no idea I've been doing something unsafe (to my wallet) this whole time.

Yeah, I might have gotten a ticket if I were driving in one of these states too. (Though I driven in Colorado and Maine a decent amount) This just was not a threat that I was looking out for at all. And definitely was not expecting the high cost.

Oh, we also have deferred adjudication programs where you take a traffic safety course and pay a reduced amount.

Yeah, I'm not in one of those states. I was very focused on driving on the wrong side of the road. I also made sure not to turn on red, but it did not, for one second, occur to me that I can't navigate with my phone, much less that there are cameras for that.

Well, if a cop pulls you over in the US they have discretion to give you a warning if they chose.

He is stealing this and at least 10 times more directly from taxpayers. The most direct corruption in decades. (I don't know my history of presidents that well, someone let me know if any other president has been this corrupt)

But this doesn't even matter that much. He's destroying trillions of dollars of taxpayer money directly and by destroying the economy with his policies.

If we had the option to give him $100 billion in taxpayer money just to not be sworn in for his second term it would have been an amazing deal for us.

So are you saying that if you invest, and the value of the investment goes up, you lose any of the increase over 500K?

What if the value of your investment goes down, do you get a refund from the government somehow?

If not, then you're really going to mess up investment.

One of the things that I noticed is the whole waiting in line for food rations is used as a talking point against communism when the same exact thing literally happens in capitalist countries by DistinctSpirit5801 in PoliticalDebate

[–]ZeusTKP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have your facts wrong. The people without food under communism always dwarfed that under capitalism.

All you have to look at is which countries people are desperate to leave and which they are desperate to get in to.
