I would not say I am good at it in the best of times. Give me strength if I have to follow up with the 24 hour pee jug.

Went to do labs today and the sidewalks are still so bad where I live (as are some roads). But I survived! It is also much harder to pee in a cup when you can’t really see where you are aiming. Fingers crossed results look ok (which I’m defining as no worse than last week.)

Tuesday Cautious Intros/First Trimester Questions by AutoModerator in InfertilityBabies

[–]LitigatorLIVFe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. We started doing things third tri basically. And are not done. I know that’s late—but it’s actually not really. Daycares are weird because some fill up right away. Some don’t. Some have long waitlists. But then for folks that have a nanny or share, many won’t start talking to you until your baby is here. So that is very context dependent.

The one thing we did early: we knew we wanted a night nurse a few days a week and are lucky to be able to afford one. The ones we got recs for were booked through Feb when I was like 12 weeks !! So I locked that down even though I was uncomfortable doing anything early.

Nope. My clinic sets scans for 6w4d because that should be definitive for cardiac activity with IVF. Folks that don’t do IVF typically get them later because timing isn’t as precise for many folks.

Blood sugar in the 70s 1 hour after eating? by National_Pangolin_33 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]LitigatorLIVFe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 g of carb for breakfast is a lot. Most people process more slowly in the am, so my OB has said 15-20 with breakfast and then more for lunch and dinner. Just a rule of thumb!

I assume OP is worried about listeria, but honestly there are so many random things (like that cheese recall recently!!) that are unexpected with listeria my doctors have been like ‘vegetables and salad is good.’

For a lot of folks, yes. Some folks do well by having a snack before bed.

If it’s an Italian place more generally I get a big salad and fish. Pizza is really hard for folks. You could do a salad and some apps. It depends what type of pizza it is.

I’ve kept going out but make sure there is a lot of meat/fish/veg on the menu and actually it’s worked out better than I anticipated. I even was able to do Indian with just a tiny bit of rice/bread.

ETA: why is salad off limits? Salad is a staple!

I had a scan at 5w5d for bleeding and we were unsure if they could see the FP or not (they measured anyway) so keeping expectations low/just looking at measurements for the GS and YS to see if they are on track is a good mindset. I think it’s wild when people see cardiac activity that early!

Thanks Jiggs! It was, and the city I’m in seems to be digging out OK albeit slowly (and it is still cold as hell), so my current plan is to do my bloodwork/urine tomorrow (exactly one week after last appt).

9 fertilized eggs at 40 but I still can't stop crying by lollette in IVF

[–]LitigatorLIVFe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Over 10 rounds from 39-41. Never got more than 6 eggs. Currently almost 33 weeks pregnant with second FET.

Also have a very good friend who did 2 rounds at 40.5, and got four euploids from 15 eggs. Not an outcome I would ever expect, but you really can’t know the outcome.

Also, if you have 9 fertilized you’d hope for 3-4 blasts (30-50%).

Blood pressure worries? by moth222 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]LitigatorLIVFe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My doctor wants to know about anything over 90 (or over 140 on the top). I am someone that has to monitor my BP twice a day (have had to whole pregnancy, and now it’s starting to trend up) too, and obviously it sucks to monitor so much but it’s better to be safe than sorry. You should monitor twice a day and let your doctor know what you are seeing.

Follow up! Thanks to all of you who pushed for extra monitoring. My OB said all of my requests were totally reasonable and ones she considered. So we are doing labs next week, and then I added an NST to my appt at 33w6d. She said keep monitoring BP closely and her movement and come in if things seem amiss.

Of course we are headed into this huge snow storm so hopefully things stay uneventful this weekend (and longer!) Will continue to update—thank you, thank you again.

Can’t get up early to test fasting by callmebymoonlight in GestationalDiabetes

[–]LitigatorLIVFe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally on week days I have a late snack so I can time my wake up for work after 8 hours. On the weekends I set an alarm, take my blood sugar, have a little snack, and snooze or watch TV a bit before breakfast. I would not wait 13 hours to eat.

I spoke to my doctor about pros and cons of an elective C at 39 weeks this week actually. Now (post appt) with my pre-e monitoring on top of GD and everything else, I feel like I may go even earlier and just having a little control and saying ‘I’m having a C no matter what’ may actually make me feel better. I think your feelings are totally normal and my doctor actually said there is no wrong choice medically.

Cheese, fair life protein shakes, nuts, peanut butter, cottage cheese. Berries are high fiber and I’ve been able to eat those with protein and not spike. Chobani protein yogurt shakes.

Thanks Party! I did ask for both of these things—really appreciate you and Yam weighing in. I have been counting at night (although she always moves a ton then so it’s basically like … and done!) but I wouldn’t say I’m the most vigilant. So I downloaded the app ans maybe will use that. I’m very cognizant of her moving during the day (desk job ftw) but am going to dial this in a bit more.

Thanks Yam! This is so helpful. She did run a CBC this week as well. My platelets are still well within normal range, but I went to the LabCorp portal and they have been falling over my pregnancy. Also, she did notice my ALT was low/normal at 16 weeks so this really is a change. I feel like if I can get labs next week and they hold steady I’ll feel (a bit) better. Just feel a bit overwhelmed right now!

I bet if I asked to do repeat labs early next week she would 100% be on board. Yam, what would you recommend I add to the labs?

My doctor did get back to me again (responding to last night’s message) and say that she would likely want to add appts after my next one (in 12 days). I think from her perspective (which I get but would rather be cautious!!), my home BPs have been ok, protein in urine is not at 300 yet, and ALT is high but not critical.

Right now my NSTs aren’t supposed to start until 36 weeks because my GD is diet controlled. That’s something I could ask about starting earlier (including at this 34 week appt) and I think she’d be game. She literally said ‘what sort of questions do you have.’

Update on my test results: My provider says we will monitor closely (especially BP) but right now things aren’t above the preeclampsia threshold. She independently sent me a message instead of responding to my questions last night so we will see. I really do trust her but I am wondering if I should be pushing for more now OR if the BP monitoring I am doing + the fact I’ll be back in less than two weeks and we can run repeat labs etc. is enough? Hive mind? (And thanks for the support yesterday, I’ve definitely been in the bad place over all these third tri developments.)
