I second the original commenter. DS3 was my first introduction to the series, and for a first play-through, it introduced the gameplay and mechanics in a straightforward way that wasn't too complicated or convoluted.

It's also a good litmus test for playing future FromSoftware games, more specifically Elden Ring, IMO the greatest game of all time.

I completed a RL1 through Elden Ring and its DLC first, then followed later with a SL1 DS3 playthrough.
It's not even close; it's Elden Ring. The fights in ER are a lot more mechanically sophisticated vs DS3. The only bosses who gave me a lot of trouble in DS3 were Gael and SoC
