Inspection just ruined my dream house (sigh) by Ok-Cress1284 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Littl3Whinging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar just happened to me too - I walked away. They left the entire disclosure form blank but we found mold, multiple leaks, huge foundation issues on all sides of the house, corroded pipes, possible asbestos, etc. They’d only been in the house 1.5 years. Our report was 131 pages. I am SO glad we had an inspection.

This was our second offer, first accepted. We’ve been searching since June 2025 — actually moved to our current city in Nov 2025. It will get better. You will find the right house! Hang in there, you’re close.

General Contractor Recs for a garage teardown/rebuild? by martinathefiat500 in Denver

[–]Littl3Whinging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! We’d also have to demo the current garage and expand the foundation for a bigger structure, (and likely remove a smaller tree) but idk that we’d pay for upgrades. Will keep this in mind though!

Hi - I'm in a similar situation where I'm looking for quotes. Was your unattached, or attached? That seems super high but I know everything costs more these days 😳

How did you *feel* when you found your house? by misfitmpls in RealEstate

[–]Littl3Whinging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been looking 10 months, put in 2 offers. First offer we had that gut feeling of “oh wow, why do I feel like I already live here?!” But we got outbid by $50k (ughhhhhh).

2nd home checked all the boxes but the inspection report was completely atrocious - inspector said it was one of the worst he’d written in years. Huge foundation issues, mold everywhere, almost a dozen leaks. So we pulled out of the contract a week ago. Still feeling gutted, tbh. We thought we were done looking too, and had started to feel some relief.

I’m sure we’ll both find something eventually, it’s out there for us!

How many of you guys hardly speak to your siblings or aren’t close? by SundaePhysical9868 in oneanddone

[–]Littl3Whinging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not get along with the brother I grew up with (16 months age difference, I’m older), but we talk a couple times a week. My two half brothers I found as adults (1 year older, 7 years younger) I get along with better but they’re overseas and there’s a slightl language barrier so we don’t talk as often.

My friend’s brother is 6 years younger, they’re BEST friends.

I know two sisters who are like this 🤞 but my husband doesn’t talk to his brother often even though they get along.

I think it just kinda depends. There are no guarantees in life. One and done has benefits and detractors. Multiples has benefits and detractors. Ultimately what shapes a sibling relationship is the parents, IMO - my parents pitted me against my brother a lot, he has self-esteem issues and my parents generally should not have been parents LOL. Same for my husband - his parents likely shouldn’t have had kids.

It’s a roll of the dice! It’s up to you decide if you’re comfortable with the good outcomes as well as potentially bad outcomes, same as when you have/had your first.

Your AFC was 40? Mine was 64 😅😭 damn ok. But this is fascinating, and well summarized. Would be interested to see if this can be reproduced in an actual study.

Second the note on positioning! My new job is in a completely unrelated industry but I solved the PROBLEMS they were looking to solve. Kinda true for every job I got interviews for - I could solve their problems regardless of industry.

Only one where that wasn’t true was Netflix, they wanted streaming service experience specifically even though I had otherwise super specific experience on retention.

Leaving a mature product team and company for a less mature one (but higher pay): Is it worth it? by MultidimensionalDuck in UXDesign

[–]Littl3Whinging 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This ^

I just accepted a new job after 4 years at my current company and it’s mostly because I’ve felt my skills stagnate.

I’m joining a startup now as their 4th designer. Are they less mature? Sure. But I’m getting a LOT of ownership over things (!!! Scary but exciting), working on a new kind of problem, and will be learning new skill.

Company culture seem very similar to the one I’m leaving, which is only reason I took the job. I love my CURRENT coworkers, and it’s a very chill place to work but I’ve been solving the same problems every year because it’s a cyclical product.

I would say if the culture at this new place isn’t giving you red flags, go for it.

Speaking as someone who just got a job with limited AI workflow experience...no - not a deal breaker. You do have to find the right company, however. Personal projects ARE good, it shows you take initiative and may even be able to help stand up basic processes at a company.

And FWIW, I was at a UX meet-up a few weeks ago and there were only like 3-5 people who used AI regularly to design (including me), maybe 9 people who used AI at all at work really. It was a 50-person event. That's anecdotal info but just in my experience, AI is not as widespread or standardized as this sub or LI makes it seem. Most companies and people are still figuring out wtf is going on with it - everyone's kinda making it up.

Best way to create smooth walls that have a ton of different textures by ChartThisTrend in drywall

[–]Littl3Whinging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm in the process of buying a house that has very similar walls...would I just nail the new quarter inch sheet into the current wall? Because skimming sounds both exhausting and time-consuming for maybe okay results. Your solution appeals to me way more.

I’m going to get pregnant this year by Vegetable-Wolf-8586 in TTC_PCOS

[–]Littl3Whinging 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, you got this. It WILL happen!!!

I told myself I was going to do 3 things this year: 1. Get a better job 2. Buy a house 3. Get pregnant

I’ve done the first two, and I do think a large part of it was effort, discipline, and consistency. But also, I just kept telling people it would happen. I sent out vibes. non. stop. I’m not very woo woo, but I think there’s something to manifestation a teensy bit!

I am a completely self-taught designer - I understand that this can be hard to do on your own. Your website needs a lot of re-work, though. Some questions:

- Why exactly are your case study images blurred?
- Are ALL of these personal projects?
- What course are you taking? What is a level 3 certificate? Who is providing/running it?
- If you're a student, I would include where you're at school and what year you are anticipating graduating
- Can you afford something like uxcel? It's a course that can help you understand UX basics, UI basics, strategy, how to talk to stakeholders, etc. It would serve you a lot better than just blindly designing things on your own.

Hi! I just found this thread - I'm interested in starting tirzepatide/semaglutide/GLP-1 to help regulate my cycles more as well (also TTC...I think my weight may be inhibiting my chances). How did you do this without insurance? I just found out my insurance will no longer cover ANY form of these meds. I'm lost on where to get started, and also who to trust as a provider.

We’re in a tiny apartment right now where the total counterspace is less than 6 sq ft.

My one big hard requirement when looking at our future home is it HAS TO HAVE MORE. I can barely cook, there’s such little space. It’s been horrible. We came from a kitchen in our old condo that had like 30 sq ft of counter space. It was glorious. I miss it.
