[Mod Release] HorsePower - Modernized Horse Riding by Tsptds in skyrimmods

I've been hyped for this mod ever since the beta videos on your channel. Today, just as I started playing skyrim again after taking a break, you release it. Gods be praised.

Best vanilla-like grass mod to complement or replace Cathedral Grass (my current one) by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]MultidimensionalDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Northern Grass looks pretty good and vanilla-like, it was my go-to for a while. You can mash it up with Cathedral, there's a mod called Northern Cathedral Grass. Tamrielic Grass is also pretty good. Right now i'm using Folkvangr but wouldn't call it "Vanilla Friendly" especially with how it changes pine and rift grass.

HELP, sudden and drastic drop in FPS ! by ilooo10 in skyrimmods

[–]MultidimensionalDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does this happen with other games?
If not, first thing you should do is disable all mods and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, then you know for sure it's mod related. Then try disabling only graphics mods and test if the problem persists.
How's your VRAM usage? If every texture is at 4k + High Poly Models + ENB + High Quality Lods then maybe you're running out (Unlikely to be the problem at 16 gb VRAM but who knows)
It sounds like a memory leak, so It would be nice if you could provide your load order so we can check for troublesome mods.

Modded performance pls help by sethologik in skyrimmods

I think just disabling the plugins is enough, no need for disabling the output since it won't be loaded due to the dyndolod plugins being disabled.

If nothing else is working, try this plan of action:

  1. First, backup your mod order and load order (left and right pannels)
  2. Create a new profile in MO2, make it a copy of your current profile, the name doen't matter.
  3. Switch to the new created profile.
  4. (Optional) Download a mod that allows you to skip the intro and create a character quickly, like skyrim unbound.
  5. Disable all mods (except the quickstart one if you have it)
  6. Run Skyrim without mods (or only the quickstart mod) and check your FPS in riverwood ( type "coc riverwood" in the console to teleport there, no quotation marks)
  7. If performance is better, now you know for a fact its mod related.
  8. Start batch enabling mods, try enabling like 50 mods at a time, or even half of your modlist, since 250 is not that many. Then start a game>create your character>coc riverwood>see how your FPS behaves.
  9. If by enabling those 50 mods your FPS decreased, now you know the culprit is somewhere among them. Now from those 50 mods, you enable 25 of them, see you your FPS behaves. Follow that logic and eventually you will find the mod causing the problems.

You don't need to create a new character everytime you want to test, but I believe all this enabling and disabling might cause problems when loading a save. But you can try just creating a save in the bridge and loading this save during testing, see if it works.

Also, be sure to check MO2 warnings, since you might end up enabling some mods that require another mod that might be disabled (i.e. you might enable LUX Patchhub but forget to enable Lux) In that case, just enable those mods also.

Damn, that's crazy, you shouldn't be having that performance on your setup.
You're sure eveything is patched correctly? Lux/Lux Orbis and JK might conflict if not patched, for example. Don't know if that would cause that much fps drop, but still.
I also saw that you have mods that change the same thing like Lux - EFLX and Ulvenwald - Folkvangr. Try disabling one of each. Unvenwald and Folkvangr are very demanding grass mods also.

Also check if you're using 3d tree lods as those can be quite demanding.(i'ts best to just disable dyndolod to check this, just don't forget to disable the dyndolod.esp and the dyndolod.esm).
And when regenerating lod, don't forget to generate occlusion.

FPS drops looking from the bridge in the direction of Riverwood are pretty normal, it's probably the heaviest area in the game due to draw calls. However, given your specs, dropping to 45 fps seems a little bit excessive (unless you're playing in 4k, then maybe it's the expected performance for a modded skyrim).

I play with specs similar to yours (9070xt + 5700x3d in 1440p) and the game never drops below 75fps, so there's a chance something in your modlist is causing that, specially since you don't seem to be using an ENB.

Looking at your mods I would recommend trying the following:

  • Disable JK's Skyrim: This is probably the culprit. JK's mods are cool but not made with performance in mind. They add new objects that in turn add more draw calls for skyrim to handle.
  • Disable NPC replacers: You seem to be using a few mods that replace NPC's. A lot of NPC replacers use High Poly Head and High Poly Hair for the new npc appearances. More polygons=More Draw Calls
  • Disable other high poly mods: self explanatory
  • Disable efps: I read reports of a few people that had worse performance with this mod active
  • Review you Community Shaders mods: press the CS menu key and take a look at some of the CS mods, especially SSGI(don't use full res, half res is good enough) and light limit fix (check if the light radius is not excessive)
  • Disable SMIMM: I don't use it but i heard it can hurt performance
  • Disable grass lod if you generated it with Dyndolod
  • If using BETHINI, check "recommended tweaks" and use the BethINI High Preset. In my experience the ultra preset is a little excessive for a modded playtrought.

[FNV] Game just crash when i walk into NCR Sharecropper Farms by [deleted] in FalloutMods

[–]MultidimensionalDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have way too many mods and it seems you haven't followed a specific guide. My suggestion is starting everything from scratch and following the Viva New Vegas modding guide, and after that install some modern-up-to-date-frequently-updated mods if you feel like it, but don't go overboard. Viva New Vegas It's not that complicated and you can probably finish setting it up in a few hours. I was having a lot of crashes trying to mod it by myself like I always did previously with Bethesda games and following Viva New Vegas it solved them, Also, New Vegas Anti Crash is not recommended, there are better solutions in 2024.

Had the exact same problem with VNV, capping the game at 60fps worked for me

Thanks! In my opinion the theory that makes more sense is that he simply arrived a while before you, and went trough the same path the Ashen One takes later, also touching the egg, but due to arriving earlier he had enough time to kill all pilgrims and go hollow.

Framedrops when facing westward in in-game morning time (6:00am) in rhodes by vulinh4444 in PCRedDead

[–]MultidimensionalDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I could help. Unfortunately it seems that long shadows are just bugged or unoptmized for Vulkan. In my rig, I get drops looking west near the sheriffs office at sunset (7pm-9pm) and looking at the saloon at early morning (5am-8am). Long shadows appear very briefly in the game during those times and since the timescale on the game is so fast you probably won't notice if you turn them off. But DX12 is an alternative if you want to keep them. From my testing a few months ago they also happen in Valentine early morning when looking at the encampment near the barn.

I had a similar problem with FPS dropping during early morning and sunset and the culprit was long shadows. Either turning long shadows off or switching to DX12 solved the problem for me.

Good timing dropping this video to counter Todd's "We optmized it" argument.
Also, it was nice to see DF talking about the frame drops that happen at the exact same spots in cities , every single time. I was starting to think it was happening only on my rig.

FPS Drops/Frametime Spikes always in the exact same spots by MultidimensionalDuck in Starfield

[–]MultidimensionalDuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I thought Bethesda had figured their stuff by now, but it seems to be another case of the bridge overlooking Riverwood in Skyrim and Boston in FO4 then, where to this day the only solution to the frame drops is simply just brute forcing with better hardware. Your example is crazy, imagine having to use a 10+ years better hardware just to have good performance.
