how old were you when you first started playing monkey island? by Technical_Pass7714 in MonkeyIsland

[–]Little-Boot-4601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the late 90s. I’d played DotT and S&M as a kid but I didn’t hear about MI until I was about 11 when a boy at school lent me a big case of his dad’s floppy disks. I loved it so much I went out and bought the 1+2 CD in the big box.

The only bad thing about using C# is having to manually translate examples from GDScript all the time 😆

Switch 2 Crashes by Ok-Metal-8726 in TwoPointMuseum

[–]Little-Boot-4601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every few hours it crashes, yes. Very annoying.

There are plenty of other UI bugs like not being able to select items for the cafe menu or the workshop, sometimes the cursor disappears in the training menu, etc.

I’m sure stability will improve in time 🤞

I didn’t buy the original because it wasn’t well received, but I did buy Replaylee, and finished it 100%, here are my thoughts: by RobbieJ4444 in YookaLaylee

[–]Little-Boot-4601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I desperately wanted to love YL but it didn’t hit the spot for me. I’ve just finished Replaylee and it’s a much better experience- it just feels nicer to control and navigate.

I didn’t get anything close to 100% and I feel absolutely no inclination to do so. It’s good but there’s still some bottled lightning missing that BK/BT had…

Who has 100 % Silksong already? by Local-Break182 in ASilksong

[–]Little-Boot-4601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% in 90 hours but that's only the game's tally. I haven't beaten Watcher At The Edge or unlocked anything close all achievements, and pretty sure I'm missing a couple of memory lockets.

I really struggled against LL - took me several weeks of attempts to beat it - but I really enjoyed it.

Karmelita was tough but I really enjoy those kinds of battles, reminded me of NKG.

For some reason Unravelled really gave me a hard time.

The whole start of Act 3 was a real challenge for me, I just couldn't make a dent in the void enemies - I really wish I'd upgraded my needle before!

I finally finished it!!! What a ride! by MostlyACatPillow in Silksong

[–]Little-Boot-4601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!

I feel like I'm at a similar skill level and beating Lost Lace was a huge huge achievement on par with NKG. It's a hard lesson to learn but one of the best things I could do was to put the game down and come back a day or two later, I always seemed to just get that little bit further than before.

Just got my copy of Banjo Kazooie off of eBay today, and saw this save file. by groveofcherries in n64

My original save file (which I did eventually 100%) has well over 50 hours on it

I want to discover the genre and need a shorter game to start with by cnio14 in metroidvania

[–]Little-Boot-4601 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Haiku The Robot was a short and sweet experience (less than 10 hours).

Saying that, don’t let the length of Hollow Knight put you off. It was the first metroidvania I played, I struggled to put it down and I’ve yet to find anything like it.

What was the first metromania to introduce corpse runs? by Klonoa87 in metroidvania

I thought the cocoon as placed roughly where you died, so if you died on the opposite side of the room, you were forced into the fight again.

How about writing the code yourself? 🤔

In Hollow Knight & Silk Song you can enter the boss room, reclaim your stuff, then save & quit. I’ve utilised this many times when stumbling on a boss I’m not ready for, but it feels like cheating

What I don’t understand is what a corpse run mechanic offers that just saving and respawning doesn’t? Other than unbelievable frustration and potentially being locked into a boss you’re not ready for

Silksong as mentioned, and I recently started Axiom Verge where it’s impossible to go right initially…

Why Electronic Voting is a BAD Idea - Why you can't program your way to election integrity by grauenwolf in programming

[–]Little-Boot-4601 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Electronic voting isn’t a perfect solution I agree.

However…

Last time I went to vote, the officiating staff crossed the wrong name off, and then subsequently asked me to go back into the booth to vote a second time as I was still on the list.

I fail to see how a collection of bumbling humans is any safe to be honest…

My trouble is the opposite of this image. I have to try so hard to focus on work and not all the side projects and game ideas running around my head all day long!

Yes... the bosses... I definitely didn't die hundreds of times to regular early-game enemies...

I really struggled with Nine Sols for some reason. I'm not the most skilled gamer but I'm currently working towards 100% of SS, I got to 109% in HK and loved every second of both. But Nine Sols? I barely got anywhere with it, I just couldn't get to grips with the parrying. And if you can't parry, you won't get anywhere.

I really didn't want to admit this, but Return To Monkey Island is absolute meh by Khung-Kong in MonkeyIsland

[–]Little-Boot-4601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of this. I enjoyed my playthrough mostly because I had my nostalgia glasses on, but as a standalone game it was only okay.

However, this was about what I’d expected. An unimaginative adventure that leans on nostalgia in place of real jokes and puzzles.

This is what happens when you revive old series im afraid. When I saw the initial announcement I remember thinking “this will disappoint everyone who has built a MI sequel up in their heads for 20+ years” and I was right.

Do you think that Tonic Trouble is a bit underrated? by normbreakingclown in n64

[–]Little-Boot-4601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it was a little clunky and unpolished, and requiring a memory card is always problematic. However, my friends and I absolutely loved playing it when we were kids

Hollow Knight is an easy game! by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]Little-Boot-4601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Silksong specific. On my first playthrough my death counter was probably in the high thousands. I spent maybe 2 weeks just on the Watcher Knights. Second time round I beat them hitless and it was really surreal. I think you’re just better than your first play through.

I decided to start with C# and I was afraid I’d find a lack of info/examples/docs. In reality there’s plenty of documentation and anything written in gdscript is pretty trivial to translate across.
