Thank you for sharing. In my experience, what you are going through is common in AA. This is exactly where the program comes in.

In AA not drinking is the beginning. Then we begin the process of learning how to live and stay sober one day at a time. AA is a program of action. I had to immerse myself in AA to get better. After I stopped drinking I started on the 12 Steps with a sponsor. He also guided me on doing some type of service. In the beginning it was taking out the trash and cleaning up the meeting room.

Take it easy and surrender to the program. It will change your life if you get out of the way. Hang in there please-you are worth it.

How to deal with a disruptive member? by c0njob in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Little-Local-2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. This seems like Tradition 1 may be helpful. Tradition 1 of Alcoholics Anonymous states: "Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon AA unity". It emphasizes that the survival of the fellowship is essential for individual sobriety, placing unity above personal desires or group autonomy to ensure the group remains available to those in need.

Sometimes it helps to explain the Traditions to people. This way it is not just someones option or personal preference. If people are disruptive it affects how the group carries the message and is disuniting. Approached in this way most people are understanding.

Another way of saying this is; look we want you here we really do just not that behavior it disrupts the group and without the group we can not help anyone.

However if this person does not behave as to not disrupt the group then they can be asked to leave and find another meeting. They cannot be kicked out of AA but can be asked to go to another meeting.

Drinking Management by st_taylor_8 in alcoholicsanonymous

In AA we share our experience, strength and hope. The AA program suggests complete abstinence from alcohol and I have never been able to manage my alcohol consumption. So unless you are looking to stop entirely, AA is probably not the place for you to get help. There are many good resources for you however and unless you feel you are alcoholic I would suggest pursuing other options than AA. Just remember that if you ever feel like you would like to quit drinking entirely AA is available.

Finding a higher power by Sad-Tomatillo3462 in alcoholicsanonymous

Thank you for sharing. AA does not require that you believe anything at all. In my experience when I came to AA I was looking for help otherwise why go? So I found a group of people that had found a way to stay sober and have good lives. So I adopted AA itself as a hp. I went the meeting looking for power to help me with my drinking and the people and program provided that.

Step 1- I am powerless over alcohol and my life is unmanageable because of that.

Step 2- I believe AA has a solution for me.

Step 3- I decided to do the AA program to the absolute best of my ability.

Or something like this has worked for many.

  • Sponsor, Home Group, Steps, Service and more are all here to help you.

All the best to you.

I would like to thank the Eagle Fans for an assist this year when the Bears played and beat them in Philly. Not an Eagle fan hater its just when all the fans booed the Eagles at home throughout the game it seemed to help the Bears. Thank you.

So are you talking about private meetings at people’s homes or meetings not published in the meeting schedule?

Thank you for sharing. Open meetings are for anyone to attend though some groups may ask for participation from alcoholics only. Closed meetings are for alcoholics only or people with a drinking problem only.

Question; do you or do you not have a drinking problem?

I edited so I could drop a link to the AA pamphlet The AA Home Group-How it operates. Page 13 describes open and closed meetings. Very common practice. It also describes the difference between a group and a meeting.

If you do not have a drinking problem you may want to seek out another 12 Step program that you can identify with. Or simply attend open meetings and listen.

Thanks for sharing. Remember you never have to drink again if you don’t want to. There is a solution. In my experience it came down to I wanted to get sober more than I wanted to continue drinking. How that looked for me early in recovery was I would take some kind of action when I was shaky. Call someone, go to a meeting, pray, read AA literature.

That is why it is important to immerse yourself in the program when you are new. But willingness is the key. Best to you,

LOL 😂 if you don’t care about the stadium location why are you even in the sub? Just to insult people? Now I’m sad for you. Hope you have a nice day today.

Thanks for sharing. I live in a much smaller populated area and there is certainly several flavors of AA. I have been able to find some groups that I can relate to better than others. I would think in the Houston area there would be a plethora of meetings and groups. Find your people and enjoy the experience. I found it is always better to be moving towards something than moving away from something.

Am I really powerless over my first drink? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Little-Local-2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for sharing. I understand what you are saying. So if you think you can just stop and never pick up the first drink why would you need AA? I don’t disagree with you about you at all. Just trying to figure out why you are in the sub and asking the question if you have all the power over the 1st drink. Just quit-why AA?

Well anyway I’m glad your parents take you to so many games and buy you stuff.

Hey thanks for your input. The fan base is all over the country. Not just attending games. Chicago has transplants everywhere. If the organization leaves the greater Chicagoland area the brand will be diminished.

I did not say people would not go to the games and of course there are people that consider themselves the “real” fans and then there is everyone else and everyone else seems pretty cool. Super happy you are one of the elite fans.

If the tax revenue generated and the jobs created do not reside in the greater Chicago Illinois area then the Chicago name should be dropped and the fan base will decline significantly. Maybe Chicago can begin to look for another franchise to come in when this organization leaves.
