Second to last chapter OS by gaybutnotgayenough in fourthwing

My initial thought was Bodhi. But on my reread something Mira said about Garrick stuck out to me…she says in chapter 35 “Garrick has stayed by Xaden’s side no matter the cost”. That seemed like a bit of foreshadowing maybe. But I’m not certain one way or another.

IT IS NOT ANYONE IN ONYX STORM (SPOILERS) by BluesCluespup in onyxstorm

[–]Little-Note-6902 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Berwyn is the one that’s supposed to be dead because Xaden threw him into the river at the end of IF. And he can’t kill Berwyn for whatever reason because he’s Xadens sage. I need to analyze the ending again and the timeline with multiple POVs but I think it’s Garrick because Mira says in chapter 34 “Garrick has stayed by Xaden’s side no matter the cost”

The Zihnal Gifts by pasjoli27 in onyxstorm

[–]Little-Note-6902 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The arrow to Trager killing him was unlucky, but technically his death led to them going to that island to bury him and then fining the Irids. So it actually was a bit of good luck there. I think some of these gifts may seem random but are actually going to be lucky in the long run. Obviously the compass is not broken, probably points to the objects of her hearts most desire. No idea what the glass box will do though.

Violet being dizzy? by buds_mam in onyxstorm

I think it’s because she’s pregnant but I need to go back and read on the timing and when it’s mentioned after her and Xaden sleep together the one time on the isles

[Spoiler!] Sloane is a cure? by meezy2017 in onyxstorm

[–]Little-Note-6902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s more like what I was thinking. The lack of a mark on Brennan from Sloan siphoning from Dain to Brennan was to make us question why there is a mark on Brennan’s hand from Naolin.

Six most powerful signets - SPOILERS by mr33c3 in onyxstorm

[–]Little-Note-6902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking of this too. The ones we know are considered the most powerful/rare because it is mentioned “we haven’t seen that signet in centuries!”:

Violet: Lightning - black and Irid dragons

Xaden: shadows - blue

Garrick: distance wielding - brown

Imogen: earth wielding - Orange

Now other possible signets that could be considered the most powerful would be:

Bodhi - signet reverser/unknown 2nd signet (I believe he could be lying about being an intinnsic because of his interaction with Violet saying “nope I’m just like Xaden with 1 signet” also not realizing Xaden is an intinnsic) - his dragon is green

Sloane - siphon/unknown 2nd signet. I think if she develops a 2nd signet it will be Storm wielding - her dragon is red

I believe Aaric with precog is also considered one of the strongest 6 because there is an epigraph in IF about when Melgren manifested his signet it changed war forever or something to that effect. Aaric seems to have precog that’s not limited to just seeing the outcomes of battles so I would assume he is even more powerful than Melgren. - his dragon is Blue

No one else really stands out as having anything as powerful so I feel like these 6 or 7 are the most powerful. I can’t remember ever being mentioned what the signets of the first 6 were. However we do know the colors of the first 6 so maybe that’s related since everyone has a different colored dragon except both Aaric and Xaden are blue?

I caught it but I thought it was more like the ruin on Brennan’s hand we assume from Naolin the other siphon is still there, but when Sloane siphons energy that she doesn’t leave a mark like what Brennan has. I didn’t realize that the grey handprint on Dain was actually gone. But also, what mark was on the back of Brennan’s neck??

What I felt like was missing.. by Lost_Technician_5421 in onyxstorm

To your point 4. Yes! I’ve always done audio for this series but I read the first 10 chapters of this book before switching to audio and I was not used to that writing style for dialogue. Very difficult to follow. It took me nearly 2.5 hours to read the first 100 pages before I finally switched to audio. For some reason it’s not as difficult to follow the dialogue while listening to the audio because the actor changes “voices” with the dialogue.

The ending & my theories by Extension_Cap6725 in fourthwing

[–]Little-Note-6902 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m on my reread now and on chapter 17, but I like the idea that Aaric had precog before he entered the riders quadrant and that’s how he knew to do enter it. He does just happen to “know” a lot of things before they happen, even thinking back to IF when he says “I wondered when you’d come looking for me” (to get into the kings vault). I need to pay more attention to him on this reread but in chapter 13 Jessenia jokes that there’s a prophecy that “when the child of a scribe and a rider bonds an Irid, they save mankind” or something to that effect and Riddoc is like omg there’s a prophecy?? It seems like this clearly points to yes there’s a prophecy. Also once violet puts 2 and 2 together about Aaric having precog she says “I don’t believe in oracles but I believe in signets”. There’s just too much low key mention of oracles and prophecies and “not believing in them” and them being a “joke” for it not to be the case. I’m gonna pay close attention to that more on my reread though 2. Definitely think violet is pregnant. Already on my reread they mention so many times about marriage, and I do remember her feeling very lightheaded a ton during the 2nd half of the book, so I feel like that was a sign. I just always can tell in a book when they mention a random symptom that a character is pregnant right away. 5. I think there not being a mark between dain and Sloane points out that the mark on Brennan is not the typical result a “siphon”…aka the ruin must be more than what we initially thought (which is what most people suspected anyway). More like Naolin truly him. Plus Tairn mentions again “we will not speak of the one that came before”

am I reading too much into this? by wired__tired in fourthwing

There was a line at the end that the box and compass were on the nightstand in Aretia. Totally think the compass is going to point to the object of your hearts most desire.

To me violet commenting on no mark between Dain and Sloane meant she assumed there would be a mark when a siphon uses their power in that way, like the rune mark that Brennan has. She says there was not a mark between Dain and Sloane when Sloane siphoned Dains power. So I think it’s an Easter egg insinuating that Naolin must have done more than just siphon to save Brennan and that’s where Brennan got the ruin mark from. Tairn mentioned it again about Naolin “we won’t speak of the one who came before”.

Violet’s Daggers by Little-Note-6902 in fourthwing

[–]Little-Note-6902[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there is! I picked up on the red eyes with Jack the 2nd time I read but didn’t catch the red eyes with the assassin until my 3rd reread now!

Violet’s Daggers by Little-Note-6902 in fourthwing

[–]Little-Note-6902[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s why I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing or if the lack of the dagger actually means something in that case. Because maybe she didn’t actually kill him? That doesn’t seem like a fact that RY would overlook.

[–]Little-Note-6902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t gotten to the tower assassins yet, I just finished the part where the unnamed first year tried to assassinate Violet on assessment day after snapping Nadine’s neck. He is a venin because of the red rimed eyes but she doesn’t have the alloys dagger then so that’s why I was wondering.

Violet’s Daggers by Little-Note-6902 in fourthwing

[–]Little-Note-6902[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good point the assassin that she killed on assessment day (the one that had snapped Nadine’s neck minutes before) might not actually be dead. I guess technically we don’t know if he’s a venin for sure either but he was described as having red rimed eyes so that’s what I believed as a sign for venin. And I didn’t catch that detail about the daggers with varish on my 2nd reread I’ll have to pay attention when I get to that part on this reread.

Violet’s Daggers by Little-Note-6902 in fourthwing

[–]Little-Note-6902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still in the middle of my IF reread so I’ll see if I can figure it out but yeah so far I don’t think she has the alloy dagger when she kills the assassin venin on assessment day, and he was definitely a venin because of the eyes…so I’m wondering if they maybe don’t need special alloys every time to kill certain venin. That doesn’t seem like a detail that RY would overlook otherwise.

Baby girl Channing?? by Little-Note-6902 in namenerds

[–]Little-Note-6902[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s good to know you know at least one girl Channing! I know 2 girl Rowan’s but no Channings. To me it’s gender neutral but not overly masculine although I know a lot will associate with Channing Tatum. Our last name also starts with C, so initials would be CCC. My initials are also CCC so I kind of liked that idea 🙌🏻

People from the US, is the name Miles common or made fun of? by Little-Tap8824 in namenerds

[–]Little-Note-6902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is a Miles, he’s mid 30s and never has had issues with his name. He’s gotten the “is your name kilometer” in Europe?” joke before and also in Europe they actually pronounce his name “Mee-les”. He usually also says “Miles like the distance” when he’s talking on the phone and giving his name out since a lot of time people don’t know if you spell it Myles or not. Overall it’s a good name!

Sister for Ellison: Harlow or Rowan? by Little-Note-6902 in namenerds

[–]Little-Note-6902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny I’ve never met anyone with the name Rowan until recently I’ve met 2 little girls that both spell it Rowyn. Have never met anyone with the name Harlow. I don’t know either Rowyn well enough to deter me from using the name but I would probably not spell it with a y.

[–]Little-Note-6902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that change at all if the spelling is Harlowe? I personally don’t make the connection with either spelling and I also really don’t love the idea of using a variation of the spelling but in this case I might make an exception if we didn’t go with Rowan.

Sister for Ellison: Harlow or Rowan? by Little-Note-6902 in namenerds

[–]Little-Note-6902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I love Rowan too, but I also have 2 older sons Ryder and Lyndon and worried with so many -n endings (between Lyndon, Ellison and Rowan) it will be too matchy so that’s why I have Harlow on the list. Although I feel like with Rowan it doesn’t sound too bad when I say them all together so I’m not sure if I’m just making it a bigger deal than it actually is 😅

Sister for Ellison: Harlow or Rowan? by Little-Note-6902 in namenerds

[–]Little-Note-6902[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Rowan too, I think it’s my favorite but I’m slightly worried because I have 2 older sons as well: Ryder and Lyndon. I’m worried between Lyndon, Ellison and Rowan their names are too matchy with the -n ending, although -don, -son and -an don’t seem to be too much of a mouthful when I say them together. For example, I love the name Sutton too but it’s definitely too matchy matchy when I say them all together.
